It's going to weigh closer to 3400-3500lb. No way it's going to be that much lighter than a C7.

I'm hoping it's going to be good. The RC F is just out of my price range, so I'm hoping the Supra will exceed my expectations.

I bet this new Supra gets walked by a Mustang GT or even a Camaro SS. Fuck you Toyota. Just let the legend die.
>>
The Supra was cool back in the day because it had a nice design and could hang with the higher end cars in terms of speed.... while also being REALLY GOOD VALUE.

That's what I love about older Japanese cars and American sports cars. Here's a car that can go fast, hey also you can actually fucking buy it. Not just a poster on your wall, but a car you can actually get. That, for me, is a lot of what makes me consider a car good.

This car.... eh. It just hangs on the brand name, without retaining anything cool about the Supra. It's not that fast, it doesn't look good. At it's price range, you can do much better even on the euro end. What's the point.
>>
>>17699105
Jesus fucking christ, it's so fucking ugly.
>>
>>17700303
it's the NSX all over again
>>
>>17700327
The point is that it's not marketed to people like us anymore. I think at one point car culture had more adults in it who actually liked the specs of it, you know? I think it's marketed towards those who can afford it no problem, and will just fall for it because "durr supra fast, the guy from fast n fursona drove it"

to me, the supra died years ago
>>
will buy
>>
>>17699404
you fuck, literally 99% of production cars are slower than superbikes up to 186mph. Only reason bikes cant post decent times on the furburgring is because its a literal shit-track with bumps everywhere.

>>17700327
You're looking at it with revisionist glasses. The Supra, Skyline, RX 7, NSX, shit even the S2000 weren't as cheap as people remember them being. They were still expensive, and adjusting for inflation, their around the same price range, give or take 10k.

>>17700303
Nothing wrong with Auto, just shouldn't be the only option, but hey, if speed is what they want, you have to ditch manual

>>17700393
New NSX is great. I don't see why anyone would be disappointed by it
>>
>>17699863

But it fucking won't be at that horsepower output. The 370Z is a fat pig that can't outpace a goddamn Challenger R/T. The Supra is going to be trash because the fucking Nips forgot how to sportscar.
>>
>>17700477

>>
>>17700509
nah, BMW n/a inline 6 engines are some of the best/easiest engines to work on, and also some of the most durable engines ever.
As I said the 2jz is quite popular because it's cheap (at least it used to be)
>>
>>17699445
They should just use that chassis, upgrade the metals used, and call it a day. Fuck, the mk4 Supra is a thing of beauty

>>
>>17700521

BMW Sxx engines are quite expensive but the 2.5 litre M50B25 (non-vanos) is probably the best German block you can buy for the money.
80% of professional drift cars (nissans, volvos, bimmers, benzs etc) are running turbo'd M50B25's because that engine is ridiculously tough and very cheap
the other 10% are BMW V8's and the final 10% are LSx's

>>
>>17700617
Yes, but they are still using bmw's drivetrain
The mentioned model codes include the 40i, which is the b58 engine.
Does toyota even have a fwd drivetrain putting out that much power?

>>17699105
>335hp
I take a wild guess and say thay they'll offer a performance pack with 360hp, like on bmw's current i6 engines
>>
>>17699105
If its priced at base Ecoboost Mustang + Performance Package it would be perfect car.

>28kMSRP
>Much Lighter
>Sameish HP
>Smaller wheelbase

As long as it has a conservative base engine with a turbo with plenty of room for power on stock parts
>>
Judging by the current known specs, I'd say the new Supra competes with the Civic Type R. So I'm hoping it's priced similar, around 36K starting with some option higher trim levels. If Toyota goes full retard and prices the supra in the 45K to 50K range, this car is deader than the NSX.
>>
335hp is just for the ICE, you retard.
It's going to be a hybrid, which will undoubtedly add a lot more power.
>>
>>17700796
>It's going to be a hybrid, which will undoubtedly add a lot more power
I want to believe too.
>>
You guys need to calm down a bit

Leaked documents show that the supra will be at the very least built on a rwd platform,
It will have an inline 6 like everyone wanted
It probably won't be hybrid
benchracers will make fun of the low HP but this points to a more modest price point, like 40-50k for the top spec to compete with the corvette or 350z, so it won't be a retarded 300k halo car like everyone was afraid of
It looks pretty good imo
The designer was intending to make it lightweight, specifically mentioning the Porsche Cayman and boxster as some inspiration

Only downside that I can see is the fact that they seem adamant about using a stupid automatic, which would give new meaning to the word autotragic since that choice will probably make it break the cars success. The z4 will get a manual tho so don't give up hope yet, they may hear the collective moan of everyone lampooning them about their autotragic and bring one to the car in its second model year

It's not going to be another nsx flop don't give up yet

>>
>>17703528
The automatic shifting mechanism isn't superior

The number of gears and gearing ratios are

>hurr all manuals need to have distant gears and five/six speeds and an H pattern style shifting instead of a sequential because its muh tradition
>auto:
>sequential shifts
>8 close gears
>you could have this in a manual but no, because....
Muh tradition. Number one thing holding manuals back. Nobody knows how to fucking drive a traditional stick anymore so they can take risks again, fucking hell.
>>
>>17703550

>8 close gears

Not only that, but with lock up torque converters, you essentially have 16 gears. 8 in slip, 8 in lock up, so you can be in a gear that's 90% optimal for load and speed for the vast majority of the time you're driving. It's how autos have started beating sticks in MPG ratings.

With Koenigsegg pioneering controllable variable slip torque converters, it's probably only a matter of time before some clever engineer figures out how to make a converter that has controllable 25%/50%/75% slip levels in addition to a lock up mode, at which point autos will have perfect power utilization in every scenario, while being perfectly smooth, and the manual will be well and truly dead.

Though in theory, CVTs do the same damn thing with a fraction of the effort, so those will probably end up taking over instead.
>>
>>17702547
Because automatics are more efficient in virtually every aspect. The "manual is best!" is a meme and that's why several manufacturers are almost phasing manuals out.

The sacrifices the STI makes to be the top tier performance car are exactly what makes it a sports car.

Except it will be turbo and anyone that knows anything about tuning turbo cars will put a callers downpipe on it, raise the boost a bit in tuning and make 350+/350+ to the wheels all day.

The only way to do that with a 370 is dump 14k into it with a Stillen or GReddy TT kit, then deal with it being no where near as reliable.

That's why I think 335/335 is just fine. And who knows how aggressive of gearing they are gonna use with that 8 speed. It could be very quick.

Toyota i4 rwd cars after 10-20 years: 4k starting
Just because you live in a cucked country where people pretend bmw's and audis are rare, exclusive and expensive doesn't mean they actually are.

BMW is slow as shit and pigfat. We had e90 and e46, both with 3 liter engines and after driving just 10km of twisties our 3 japanese veryhandles had to spend an entire smoke break waiting for them to catch up.

>t. can't drive a manual (or is really bad at it)
That's not entirely true especially comparing manual to CVT, you "might" get slightly better fuel economy in certain specific conditions but that's about it. I think at the end of the day a manual just adds that little something to the driving experience that so few truly appreciate. 95% of people aren't taking their performance cars to the race track, or if they did it's strictly recreational with no scores being kept, so what does it matter if the auto is fractions of a second faster """on paper"""? This of course in addition to all the electrical driving nannies that they put in cars now, it's completely removed the need for learning a skill now. From here I guess it'll be self driving cars, and /o/ will be full of shitposting like "lol you fags still driving with steering wheels and pedals? Computers are faster and better just give up on driving already and stop being dinosaurs"

computers are allready faster and better at driving, audi made a self driving race car that learns as it goes and i can drive at its limit consistently 100% of the time.

It's literally how it goes with every generation. Some new technology comes around and it scares the current generation of gearheads.

EFI IS THA DEVIL, YOU CAN'T EVEN TUNE IT WITH A SCREW DRIVER, YOU NEED A FANCY GOMPUTER. MY CAR MAKES PLENTY OF HP WITHOUT IT

Is it fun? Sure. Does it take some level of skill? Absolutely. Unfortunately it's becoming obsolete and an "option".
>>
>>17706482
carburators are dogshit but manuals should never dissapear as an option

Its about the way you control the car.
Forcing you to get an automatic is like a dull electronic throttle or steering by wire.
I mean I'm doing a fucking power steering delete because fuck you nanny state.
>>
>>17706495
but is it really the nanny state and not the car manufacturer?
>>
>>17699922
Mazda only builds crossovers.
>>
>>17706482
Carbs are shit though and can never be as good as well set up EFI

Manuals can be just as good as automatics, if not better in the weight department, but those good race-spec manuals aren't the manuals we're sold because they're harder to shift without literally destroying the gears in two seconds flat and "obnoxious" to DD for people used to the old four on the floor plus one or two shit.
>>
>>17706320
>335/335
If it's the same tune as the M240i, it'll be 335/370. All the B58 engine tunes I've seen bring it past 400HP.
>>
>>17706444
what does BMW being ''slow and pigfat'' have to do with the M50 engine being cheap and durable you fucking mong.
There are no noteworthy cheap RWD toyotas btw.
We used to have a stock Nissan 200sx and it would overheat every 2nd lap with the stock cooling system while our E36 328 coupe could run on a hot day all day long.
>>
>>17706482
I think the argument is different this time compared to when computer engine control came out. EFI honestly changed the driving experience for the better and it really truly is better almost any way you look at it. Having an engine and trans that shifts for you and does things like rev-matched downshifts without driver input (or skill) takes away from the fun factor imo and it's just another baby-step toward driverless cars for the sake of being faster on paper. If I want to just sit there and get tossed around I'll go ride a rollercoaster, but when it comes to cars give me a steering wheel, three pedals, and a short throw stick any day of the week.

>>17706556
"Race spec" manuals would be more hassle than they're worth on a daily driven street car. For occasional use sure, put in some monstrosity with face plated straight cut gears, but don't pretend like that wouldn't be a complete pain in traffic on a daily basis.
>>
>>17706539
Nah, Mazda is just frugal. They build what sells, and what sells is small cars and SUVs. We ought to congratulate them anyway, for making hatchback econoboxes and cuckmobile child-haulers that corner and handle like modest sports cars. It's the automotive holy grail of having your cake and eating it too.
>>
>>17699139
>>17702547
Because modern auto and cvt are much more efficient, in a world with growing efficiency guidelines, why wouldn't they? Why would they invest time and money into making a manual option just for ~5% of the consumer base for autists who want to drag race at the green light on the way to pick up groceries?

Face it, manual is outdated.
>>
>>17706689
I forgot to mention, modern automatics (such as BMW) are faster than manual too, so there is even less reason to buy a manual.
>>
>>17706692
>I forgot to mention, modern self driving cars (such as BMW) are faster than manually driven cars too, so there is even less reason to buy a car that still has a steering wheel and pedals.

>>
>>17706692
who the fuck cares faggot.
Computer driven cars are faster and more safe than human driven cars. Go ride a bus you retarded cunt.
I'll enjoy my fucking manual with no driver aids and yes I fucking do double clutch through every single gear at every red light in traffic.
Because sportscars are meant to be fun not please some autists who scroll past them in fastlaps.com.

Suck a dick.

>>17699905
Better stats. 0-60 or 0-anything, and any laptime numbers are always better with robo transmitions. The car is going to be heavy and shitty and they need to squeeze every imoressive number enough to make it look like a decent car on paper. Same reason other driver aids are so common.
