I think it's one of the most simple designs.

The regional indicator is the only thing you cannot really change, unless you move to another region/county. There are 42 possible regions, all of them have two letter abbreviations (like in pic related BC stands for Bacău) only exception being the capital, which has only the letter B (for Bucharest).

Rest of them go in a fairly simple manner
You start from 01 - AAA -> 01 - AAB and so on until you reach 01 - ZZZ, at this point you start again with 02 - AAA and so on.

As long as the combo is avaible, you can go for custom plates which in essence is jumping queue, so instead of dunno 12 - QWE you might jump directly to 33 - KEK if you wish. You have to pay double the tax for this though.

age identifier is when the vehicle was first registered
so if you drive a late 2001 it's 01 or 51

What happened to prelift Punto 2 Abarths, stopped production in 2003 but there is some with 05 plate on the market. Bla bla bla ship to Japan get in trouble and it took them 3 years to throw them onto UK market.

Ontario plates are boring, but at least we have vanity plates. NWT plates are aesthetic though

Here in Brazil it's random but the color differ from each type of vehicle. (Ex: Grey for personal vehicle, Black for collector vehicle and Red for comercial)
