How do I know if an ECM is failing?
>>17687294
By running a diagnostic through OBD II port?
You turn the key and the engine don't go on

The car is pre-OBD II
>>17687325
running a diagnostic through the obd1 port

Sometimes the car will start, but it always dies at a stop.

Vacuum or emissions related probably.
Your car wouldn't run period if your ECM was taking a shit.

The only error codes it's throwing usually relate to the MAP sensor or the ECM. I just replaced the MAP sensor with no luck.

bullshit nigga.
>have 1990 f-250
>randomly misfires for no reason
>next day runs perfect
>sometime check engine light starts flashing like its on crack(normally you can make it flash codes by bridging a connector)
>decide to actually read the codes its spitting out at hyper speed
>codes that dont even pertain to this vehicles specific transmission
>pull ecu
>caps are all swollen and acid has leaked onto the board
>even with this fucked ecu it never stalled or failed to start

It stops functioning.
I should also add that it is misfiring and making a 'POP-Squeak' sound at a steady rate while coasting.

That's not true.
I brought my car in for some intermittent issues recently, the mechanics figured it was the ECM after examining everything. They determined that the ECM wasn't making proper contact in a connection inside of it. They also noticed it looked like someone opened it before and may have messed with it at some point. They tried to open it and move things around to make proper contact, but they just turned the intermittent issues into failure to start.
When the ECM got replaced, the car worked and the intermittent issues I brought it in for have been gone ever since.
