I really don't know. I understand the ones who live in cities where you have subway systems, but I live in the burbs and, having worked as a restaurant manager, I've worked with a lot of teenagers. None of them had their licenses.

I'd say a lot of it has to do with how shit our roads are in most of the US. They're not fun to drive on and they're congested all the time. People just want to get to their destination and pass the time with their phone because the roads [and cars] don't offer any stimulation.

It took me a long time to enjoy driving, and honestly I probably would have never learned to if I didn't have to drive 40 minutes to work once I got my licence. I mainly hated it because of everyone else on the road. There are too many moronic drivers in the DFW area. I eventually figured out to drive faster than everyone else. It was a painful process but I've loved the freedom attached to it.

I've had my license for 12 years but started driving consistently only 4 years ago. It mostly depends on what you do or what you have to do.

Of course it's possible to be afraid of being at the wheel and have to use pedals and clutch. Start driving alone in roads near corn fields where traffic is very low, then practice all the stuff you need to practice there.
Then you can take it to the city where traffic sucks.

As for the stuff you can't control, such as reckless drivers, don't be too worried about that. You also have the choice to take low traffic routes around the centers of the city, sometimes.

CC debt is a huge issue. If you don't have any debt, you're doing pretty good. Back in 2007, when I first moved out of my parents house, I racked up about 6k in debt. I got a little too happy finally being on my own and started buying a bunch of shit and not really being to smart about it.
