Why don't millennials want to drive?
>>
>>17684011
Uhmmm because it's dangerous, loud it hurts the environment?
Honestly duuude, id way rather use uber so I can text my friends and post insta pics while getting chauffeured instead of wasting time doing it myself...
Also.. a car ain't cheap, yo! I somehow gotta afford my avocado toast haha

Because driving is mainly a manly thing, and most millennials have so little testosterone, they might as well be human garbage
>>
Aren't "millennials" people between 25 and 35 years old or some shit?

I'd say the vast majority I know drive.
>>
>>17684035
It's pretty much anyone 18 to 40 now. It's such a retarded fucking term honestly
>>
>>17684011
You are probably a millennial, starts in 81 up until whatever the next generation.

Either way, less demand, more supply. Fuck em.
>>
Because they live in urban environments with increasingly efficient public transportation.
It's literally not any deeper than that.
>>
>>17684046
>starts in 81 up
no.
millennials are people born around the millennium.
they are currently 21 and under.

inb4 u link some autistic definition.
>>
>>17684038
Correct. "Millennial" is the new media term for everyone that isnt a Boomer (the largest 24 hour media consumers).

Gen X, Y, Millennial, and Z are extremely different.
>>
>>17684075
That's literally not correct though
>>
>>17684094
>literally
there is no literal definition its a completely subjective term with zero official definition.

the reality is that when people say millennial on 4chan. they mean people currently in their early 20s and lower. it's called colloquial language.
>>
I am 21, but I consider myself part of generation Zyklon.

In short, they're a generation completely raised wrong

I was so mad and decided to teach her stuff myself, you know important life skills like which way is north and how to multiply and divide, not that there are an infinite amount of genders
>>
>>17684183
They don't spend that up front, they get it subsidized and locked into a contract. Meanwhile you can't finance a $2k car and it's seen as dangerous and unreliable

Keep in mind our generation is going to be the first one in a long time that's poorer and will have shorter life spans than our parents

I really don't know. I understand the ones who live in cities where you have subway systems, but I live in the burbs and, having worked as a restaurant manager, I've worked with a lot of teenagers. None of them had their licenses.

I really don't get it. I went to go get my permit on my birthday, like literally as soon as I possibly could. My license is suspended right now (6 month mandatory waiting period after a seizure) and I'm counting down the days until I get my license back. 38 days. It's killing me.

I really, truly don't understand how these kids don't want the independence of being able to drive yourself places. Uber/Lyft are nice, that's what I've had to use to get around, but it's still shit compared to driving yourself.

Plus it's emasculating when you leave your job at the end of the day to have to wait for your mom to pick you up. I don't get it.
>>
>>17684212
Mommy and daddy are taxi services and trust funds
>>
Because insurance cost me 2.5k a year for the first three years and these days you get a box installed that raises your payments if you brake too fast.
I live in London, public transport is way more practical and in most cases a lot cheaper.
>>
>>17684220
>not just driving uninsured and avoiding accidents
No skill.
>>
>>17684195
So how about these kids buy a huawei instead of an iPhone, save monthly what they would have spent on their iPhone and then buy a car in 2 years
These people are overeducated but still very very stupid

Plus they will work longer, make less money and pay more
>>
>>17684220
> these days you get a box installed that raises your payments if you brake too fast.

What?
>>

>Why don't you buy an iPhone Anon? Everyone has one!
>because I'm too busy getting a mortgage approved for my home. Enjoy working at Starbucks barely paying off rent and those student loans
>>
>tfw poorfag who can't afford a cell phone
>that feel when die inside when everyone assumes I have one
>>
>>17684243
You can get a smartphone for under $100 on Amazon. How poor are you?
>>
>>17684230
oi bruv you don't have a braking license that's gonna cost you money to the ministry of transportation
>>
>>17684164
You can always finance. People here like to pretend anyone that finances a car is a dumbass poorfag but that's simply not true. I make close to 100k a year and I still finance all my cars.
>>
>>17684277
Financing is dumb when people who don't know how to manage their money end up with 24% APR
>>
>>17684230
some insurance companies allow you to install an information box in your vehicle that allows them to see driving habits and reward 'safe' driving with lower premiums. but it always works out that braking a bit too hard constitutes as 'unsafe' driving which raises your insurance premiums
>>
>>17684254
>$100
Only something with a shitty snapdragon 410 or chink soc. Also I'd rather spend that 100 on tools or something else that's higher priority desu.

Such is life as a poor college student.
>>
>>17684011
because they don't need too
>>
>>17684304
How is that even possible? I doubt anyone is that dumb. Even at 22 by myself with a crappy job I was able to get 7.8%, which at the time only added a couple hundred to the car.
>>
>>17684011
because from where i'm from, they rather ride a bike
>>
I'd say a lot of it has to do with how shit our roads are in most of the US. They're not fun to drive on and they're congested all the time. People just want to get to their destination and pass the time with their phone because the roads [and cars] don't offer any stimulation.
>>
If you don't NEED a car they are a money pit.

I'm a mechanic who loves vehicles but my use case isn't everyone else's use case. Also with the advent of the internet there's less reason to travel because nothing is new. (I do travel, nothing is new.)

Be glad they aren't contribooting to traffic. There are already too many cars.
>>
>>17684320
Well that's one of the millions of reasons why you don't live in a big city or near one.
>>
>>17684320
This too. Congestion makes travel suck. I enjoy my motorcycles but not on the interstate.

Driving isn't fun.
>>
>>17684011
Depends on the person, some like to drive etc..

I find that most young people are more interested in life in general and don't focus on cars or "legacy hobbies"

>>
>>17684304

24%!? Jesus fucking Christ, no wonder people always balk at financing. I got 4% when I was looking into financing my bike, and I paid it off entirely with no penalty half way through the term so the interest was basically nothing.

Because they're forced to by society, and millennials don't like to be forced to do things.

They only want to drive when it's completely optional. If it is, they're crazy about it and want an old japanese sportscar/sportbike because it's what nobody around them wants them to have

>free

you mean paid for by everyone's taxes.

republicans and democrats have been screwing college funding up for decades. as they moved it away form state general funds to tuition and loans. federally secured loans have only lead to run away spending by the colleges. college admission standards driven down to get more students and their loans in.

you would have to slash state run college budgets by huge amounts. in order to get costs down to a reasonable amount. then you could shift more of the funding to state revenues vs tuition. which means no more huge sports programs. no more fancy college facilities that aren't for education, but to attract students with cosy luxury features. like rock climbing walls, starbucks coffee shops, dorms that aren't shit, fancy dining halls service huge menus. liberal arts and humanities would have to be cut as well.
>>
>>17685817
or we could get the funding by not starting wars with every country in the middle east and by spending unnecessary amounts of money on our militant.

>getting as close to the car in front of me as possible when I'm stopping
I would also tense up whenever I braked hard, even for a month or so after I took it out, because I was just waiting for that obnoxious beep. I actually ripped it out for about 5 minutes driving through the city because I was late and driving aggressively and it was being so fucking annoying.

Because our generation of instant gratification and easy problem solving doesn't mesh with the dedicated wrenching needed to maintain used sports cars, so instead of buying something fun with what little they earn on minimum wage, they lease shitty econoboxes from stealerships that make driving a chore, they begin to resent it, not finding any joy in it, which is why they want it to be automated, so they can use commute times for more entertainment and gratification.

there are no such thing as generations. resist the academic brainwashing from the textbook jew; don't be a good goy and buy all dey products dat every nice mellenial would.

imagine if the camaro changed slight by slight, bit by bit, ever year; seemlessly and unnoticeably going from what it was in the 60s to what it is today. Tht is how the evolution of society works, so where do you mark the generations? You can't. time doesn't stop and then pick up with a new direction. we go forward non stop. There are no breaks on time's line, there are no divders, there are no groups. There is no descriptons you can give that remotely apply to everyone born from x year to y.

You are not a milennial and you are not, not like milennials. Milennials don't exist. Neither do gen X,Y,Z, or LGBTQIA. It's all made up bullshit

>>

>where do you mark the generations
At redesigns?
>>
>>17687464
This is correct, society is just a wave of constant, slow change. Only specific moments can be picked from it as anything concrete. Everything waxes and wanes, nothing is immediate.
>>
>>17687582
yes, redesigns that cover 19xx-19yy that have markedly different ascpects. What I was saying is that imagine that there is no years where the new corvette is released and it looks noticeably different from the old corvette, it just seamlessly blends unoticeably from one to the next each year you can't put an infograph up of redesigns because the difference from 1 year to the next is invisible. That is how society evolves and why the concept of generations doesn't make sense for humans. For something like cars it works. times stops with the 1999 model year, the 2000 comes out and it has a different body style, different engine, it is a different generation of the same car. That is not how it works with society and that is why no one belongs to a generation
>>
>>17687628
The GTR changes a little every year, it's not invisible, in the same way that societal change isn't invisible.
>>
>>17687638
The change happens every single day. There is no unified movement brought fourth by people spanning 10,15,20 years born across the country acting in unison. How utterly retarded does that sound? That is the premise of generations. In my eyes it is not different than astrology: it is the notion that if you tell me your birthday I know inherent traits about you.

>By thinking credit cards are free money and only paying back the minimum
This right here. Out of the 20 people I work with, only myself and 2 others don't have credit card debt. One guy has a collective balance of $20k in debt and he just keeps transferring it from one new account to another to keep getting the 0% APR for a year offers from opening a new account. This fucker has 10 credit cards.
>>
>>17689530
Don't rush it. It takes a little time to get to know the car, where the biting point is, how much throttle (if any) it needs to not stall, how much you can get away with lugging the engine and so on.
Just remember the clutch isn't an on/off switch.

>Financing is dumb when people who don't know how to manage their money end up with 24% APR

What you guys are forgetting, and LPG didn't mention, is that a lot of dealers will deliberately give bad deals to you first even though you qualify for 4.8% interest. Both they and the lender make a bigger profit from you, so even if you are 4.8%, you might get the offer at 7.8% which is over 50% higher than the rate you qualified for. If you don't bite, they do their sales talk about how they're working for you and pretend to go thru some more stuff. Then they re-offer to you at 4.8%.
>>
>>17689646
How? Who actually does this? I don't even know anyone in their 20s with a credit card, let alone thousands in debt from one. I have debt from school but never a credit card I thought people were smarter about CCs now.

>I enjoy my motorcycles but not on the interstate.
Very few ride their motorcycles on the freeways here. The congestion means the cars are always tight, so your bike is completely surrounded. If your bike gets knocked down, another car may run you over and the original car that brushed you will of course hit and run because everyone is hit and run unless their name is preceded by a title like "saint" or "justice". I would have said "reverend" or "judge" too, but both types have been convicted of hit and run offenses in the past few years in my area. So those titles are no guarantee of non-hit-non-run.
>>
>>17684368
>I paid it off entirely with no penalty half way through the term
A lof of these financing offers now have some sort of early payment "penalty". It is not worded as penalty but there is some sort of extra load for closing out the deal sooner than the full term. You really have to read through the terms carefully because they try to hide it.

Probably by losing the spare tire, and jack like a lot of other new chevrolet cars did. To avoid bad PR, only the higher option models return the jack and spare tire so that no one can accuse the line of not having the tire/jack. But the EPA MPG tests are done against the base model which doesn't have the tire or jack.

>Depending on where you live insurance cost is a huge factor.
It does. One area I was $178 per month. Another area I moved to it dropped to $128 per month. All in the same city area. If your household members have bad rates, that also affects your own rates. Insurance companies are legally allowed to consider that people immediate to you in your household, even if they are not related to you, may occasionally borrow your car. Or you might borrow their car. Thus the rates are adjusted based upon risk factors.

Fire ants make lots of local burning/itching hot spots. They sting fast and often so even one ant can leave a trail of 2 to 5 stings before you manage to find it and swipe it off if it gets under your clothing. If enough stings occur, some of the poison leeches into the lymph and makes your arm swell up like in this picture.

I've had my license for 12 years but started driving consistently only 4 years ago. It mostly depends on what you do or what you have to do.

Of course it's possible to be afraid of being at the wheel and have to use pedals and clutch. Start driving alone in roads near corn fields where traffic is very low, then practice all the stuff you need to practice there.
Then you can take it to the city where traffic sucks.

As for the stuff you can't control, such as reckless drivers, don't be too worried about that. You also have the choice to take low traffic routes around the centers of the city, sometimes.

>Why don't millennials want to drive?
Talk is cheap. Except for the few exceptions, they all drive. A few have bicycles, but if they don't have an audence, they'll switch to a high-pollution bus instead. The cost of our local bus system locally each year is constistently greater than if the government simply bought thousands of vans and rented them out for $1 per day to groups of individuals for van pooling and paying for taxi rides for the rest. Our area spends billions (not millions) each year and that is on top of the huge pension and benefit plan packages the huge bus employee system consumes for many years to come.

this except theres also millennials who don't fall into that category but they all are so crippled by internet use that they don't need to go anywhere that would require them to drive.
>>
If I'm considered a millennial (being 21) then its probably because none of us can afford to drive. I wanted to so bad I got an old car on finance and can barely afford gas, but hey I've got a cool car while everyone else my age is riding the bus

Almost everyone I know has a license. However, very few people actually own cars and instead just drive their parents cars when they need to get places. The only people I know who don't have drivers licenses are neets.

Find yourself an empty parking lot and take your time. Spend a bit just feeling where the clutch starts to bite. It's all about putting time and thought into it. After a couple weeks you'll find you don't need the tach to time your shifts.
Don't sit at a stop light with the clutch depressed, it's not good for it. Don't panic and try to force the car into a gear, it's not good for it.

>A 94 kniws about floppy disk and cassette tape

I was born in '94 and I used both floppy disks and ZIP drives up through middle school. I remember thinking that a 128MB flash drive was so insane.

Never used a cassette though. I started music with shitty K-Mart portable CD players that skipped when you breathed on them too hard.

CC debt is a huge issue. If you don't have any debt, you're doing pretty good. Back in 2007, when I first moved out of my parents house, I racked up about 6k in debt. I got a little too happy finally being on my own and started buying a bunch of shit and not really being to smart about it. Thankfully I fixed my habit quickly and was able to pay off all my credit cards in 2010. Now I charge everything and pay off the card every month, this way I get no interest charges and reap the benefits of the rewards program.

Why do the Brits have such a hard-on for mass surveillance?

They tend to have GPSs installed too so they can tell where you're going.
It's fucking insane. If you drive too long distances they increase your premiums too. Going for a weekend at the beach can throw another £150 onto your quote because you went too far in a single journey.

But your country is tiny. There are no long distance trips in England.

Driving in the DC area is rage inducing and soul draining. Just ask anybody that has to drive on I-66 or 395 on a daily basis. Factor in the cost of insurance here and a lot of people suck it up and take the metro in, but since metro has gone to shit with safetrack even more people are on the roads now increasing traffic.

Lucky I rarely have to use the beltway. My commute is Centreville to Reston. So many goddamn cunts on the parkway, and 28 South starts building up at like fucking 2:00. Brutal.

Millennials includes people in their late 30's who probably have careers, families, and at least one minivan.

Maybe you should rename your troll bait thread to "Why don't people my age want to drive?"
