its a status thing wherein everyone recognizes that large chrome wheels are expensive. while at the same time everyone also recognizes that it looks foolish, meaning that the purchaser has a sense of humor as well as the ability to waste a considerable amount of money. its one of those weird cultural artifacts that you only understand when you are in it, but since its so visual to those outside the culture its shocking and utterly ridiculous.

donks are kinda cool imo. Everyone i've talked to who has made one knows it is all for laughs and conversation. Also, as one of my black friends explained to me; blacks are competitive with each other to prove they have more money. For example, at the strip club if you start throwing a lot of money some other black guy will start throwing more money just to out do you and prove he is richer. So for donks, it started with some guy getting 20in rims, then some other black guy was like "oh yeah? well I got 22in rims nigga!" and went on from there, until they couldn't find wheels any bigger.
