Maintenance time /dbt/!
While I don't know all that much about bikes, I noticed that the chain has too much play and I'm about to adjust that.

My question is: how much life is left in pic related?
Dirt on the chain aside, have to clean that

Depends on where you're from. If you're a Brit then 125 until you have more road experience to go for your full license test, then go for a 400/600
>>
>>17661479
So you only need power on long straight stretches of highway and freeway to maintain speed, never to pull away from stop signs and out of corners or for just general hooligan shit.

Wanna know how I know you've never ridden a bike?

>100cc - 200cc

Is perfect. It's also cheaper and you won't have much trouble when you inevitably drop it.

Also, despite what the children on here think, there's nothing inherently wrong with low capacity bikes. If you are not a huge fatass it will prove plenty powerful enough.
>>

>>
>>17661665
Carry the weight in your thighs and torso. Your neck shoulders and wrists should be relatively light and weight free.

Most people sit on sportbikes utterly wrong, stiffarming them and carrying all the weight on their shoulders and wrists.
>>
>>17661665
Something something core strength. Personally my wrists start hurting after half an hour, but I just started and I'm consciously working on building a habit of holding myself up with my legs and core and not my arms. As a skeleton, part of the reason I started biking was to get a bit of posture change and physical activity into my daily routine - so I figure any aches and pains are part of the package and as I ride more, my body will become accustomed to those stresses.
>>
>bike is in showroom condition

does this mean he hated the bike after buying it?
>>
>>17661722
It means he's jewing you out, since bikes depreciate 50% as soon as they leave the showroom

No, you can't. You can put lights on it, but you can't certify that the braking system meets the requirements of FMVSS122, or the brake pads edge code meets all requirements for the US, etc...

These are "Tombstone" laws. Every singe federal and state motor vehicle regulation has dead people behind it, usually hundreds, sometimes thousands. And you know nothing of regulatory compliance.

Did I ever say I was rich? Did I ever say I had a super fast car? No I fucking didn't. I'm a college student with a nice car that is decently quick but nothing special. The reason so many mouth breathing affliction t shirt wearing faggots ride sport bikes is because sport bikes are cheap speed. You go to a dealer and finance a CBR 1000 RR or some shit for barely any cash from your shitty warehouse job, then ride around like a faggot laughing at how you're faster than everyone whilst not maintaining your shit and riding on bald tires. Then you drop it and get road rash and go do drugs or some other shit instead of going to college or having aspirations in life. Obviously not all bikers are like this, but most other the faggots I see around here are total fucking squids

DRZ has better suspension and is water cooled, so that's likely why. In Canada the price difference is about 500$ so it seems to make sense. I have a DRZ and my buddy has a DR, I like both but I find the lower weight on the drz is more fun on trails.

It does not make 50 horsepower, rear wheel dyno is like 38, and because of the design of the motor you're unlikely to get it much higher (I know a guy who threw about $4k into the motor and came out with 45 at the rear) if you want fast either buy an old one or wait for them to put the V9 motor in that chassis.

seriously i can understand how its great for cruising, you basically dont need to bother with shifting unless you wanna cruise faster. It doesnt matter if you pull the throttle at 3000RPM or at 6000, the power-band is so flat it just feels the same, this makes riding through corners very chilled and pointless. No reason to brake, shift down, accelerate out of the apex at 9000RPM etc...
>>
>>17662934
>>17663061
Solid suspension would get you killed if you actually rode it

I haven't ridden a bobber style bike but I've ridden a hardtail before and unless you're going really slow and straight, the way it kicks up over bumps or dips is fucking scary, I don't think it would be safe to encounter a rough spot mid corner, suspension exists for more than just comfort, race bikes have it for a reason.

I have a huge fetish for 50cc roadracing. I have owned pretty much every AM6 streetbike there is, but we can't get those unrestricted ones legally registered and I'm tired of paying huge fines for riding them..
But this year the 125cc thumpers got a massive tax deduction here in norway, making them look MUCH more attractive (50cc price + 1 fine = 125cc price, including several burger runs)

So to the point - Anyone here ridden the gixxer 125 yet?
I wonder how the chassi performs compared to the Yahama and KTM, since the gixxer cost about 20-30% less here.
I know the engine and possible brakes will be shit, but these bikes, like the fiddys, are all about carrying as much momentum as possible anyways.

>inb4 get used bike autist pleb
Used 125 bikes are not my cup of tea, 16 year olds seem to have an excessively high wear/mile ratio and pretty much all of them are marginally cheaper than the new ones around here.
Plus they have all been in the ground, and you know this.

They were clearing out to make room for Desert Sleds, according to the Dealer Ducati only lets them have so many of a particular bike on hand.

While I was test riding and haggling with the Finance-Jew they sold one Desert Sled and took deposits on two more, at fucking MSRP. So I think they had to get a Scrambler out of the door to get more Desert Sleds in.

How long can you go without riding? Are you a decent electrician?

Theoretically, you could build an intercept in the lines for speed/rpm, or work out if the speedometer produces a finished signal and hijack that.

Maybe start by researching existing aftermarket clusters, or lurking job postings at Kawasaki for software developer roles to work out what languages they use.

I like the idea of hard tail bikes, though. Can't help but to wonder how they'd handle.

But yes, do keep the fenders and prioritize function over form. Give it a reasonable tank, good lighting, functioning brakes/tires and make sure the exhaust isn't slowly cooking your legs.

There's this bike in GTA IV called Zombie.(pic related) that almost fits the bill for me. But it would need instruments and a sprung seat.

No, that's a reasonable price for an FZ6, if a little on the cheap side. Most likely it's just beat to shit.

Anybody with track riding experience have tips on getting started with track riding in the west? I live in Las Vegas and it seems like the only thing I can find are non-competitve track days at willow springs

>tfw live less than an hour away from two road courses and cant find a single shred of information on how to get on the track as an amateur on 2 wheels
>>
Can some one explain to me the armored vest/chest protectors that I always see squids wearing? Like besides the helmet and rarely gloves I only see them wearing that as protective gear.

This they are also cheap and they ADD to clothing, not replace it with "motorcycle" equivalent. People have style and that style is rarely looking like a storm trooper.
>>
I'm getting a headache trying to get new tyres.
>Need a set
>80% of riding is blasting through canyons full throttle
>15% cruising
>5% wet
>Guy at shop says it's not like I need track orientated tyres since it's on the street
>I can't see any difference between track full throttle and twisties full throttle
>Need to choose between s20,s21, q3, m7rr
Should I just flip a coin? I feel like I'm reading in to this too much. I haven't had any problems with the stock gsxr tyres which was a battalax 016 except for the fact it only just lasted 4,000ks
>>
>>17664401
Since when do you replace your clothing with the motorcycle equivalent?

You ride around naked under that two piece leather suit?
>>
>>17664171
>Take off the front end dongles and mail them back to cybertron where they came from
>Buy a new headlight, signals, and maybe gauges if they were that integrated into the front nonsese

Done

Downside is, the headlight alone can cost upwards of $300 if you want a guarantee of it actually being effective, and unless you can machine your own brackets or know a shop for that you're going to be overpaying out the ass for tiny pieces of metal.
>>
What are situations where a motorcycle would beat a car in a race?
Are cars better at sharp turns?
Just curious as I've seen a few comments on how cars generally turn sharper but no one's ever gone in depth on how this actually effects racing.
>>
>>17664425
Motorcycles are better at sharp turns and acceleration. Cars are better at high speed turns, braking, and top speed runs because they have two more tires and downforce.

Bikes lose on serious motorsport tracks meant to favor overall speed but win on ultra-twisty toegays and kart tracks

When is ABS actually going to help me on a bike, no memes.
I think the majority of situations where I would need ABS would be better handled by swerving anyways.

I saw the webm of how ABS works with the training wheels on the non ABS bike while the ABS bike stayed upright, but when would I actually brake that hard in the rain anyways?

>>

Even dirt bikes have DOT certifications all over their braking systems. They work very well and there's no reason they would be unsafe or insufficient on the street.

Make a split off the speedometer wires. Speedohealers already do this and resend the pulses at a different rate to the speedometer to make corrections.
>>
>>17664409
>I can't see any difference between track full throttle and twisties full throttle
Because throttle isn't going to break traction anyway unless you're cornering really hard at the same time. 99.9% chance you're not riding hard enough to surpass the ability of a moderately sporty touring tire.
>you're not riding near as hard as you think
>>
>>17664412
What is "underwear"? You sure as fuck won't fit jeans underneath the dedicated riding pants in a two piece suit unless they're totally the wrong size.

>>17664442
Top speed differences on cars are just because as speed goes up horsepower:drag becomes gradually more important relevant to horsepower:weight, so you need a fuckton of power to get a car to accelerate as fast as a bike to make up for the weight difference, which keep them pulling longer at the top. The same thing happens when you compare a Veyron and an Ariel Atom.

A race Superbike is about as quick as the fastest production based race cars around a track. The Superbike gets to make full power while the GT cars get a bunch of bullshit race specific aerodynamics but have less power than street cars. The gorillion dollar oil baron hypercars (La Ferrari, McLaren P1) are around that pace as well. If you're using the same vehicle for commuting and tracking a Fireblade will probably get you better lap times than a Corvette, anyways. You can have something closer to a race bike than a race car without being horrendously impractical on the street. (no scraping on parking lot ramps, rattling your teeth out from ultra stiff suspension, migraine inducing noise from pulling all the sound deadening out, or getting 10mpg from engine mods)

>>
>>17664625
that negatively affects resale value
>>
>>17662848
I'm a student and most people I know who own sport bikes own them precisely because they can't afford a decent car while in uni.
Sport bikes are literally just cheaper performance than any other type of vehicle. Cruisers are a huge waste of money and the warehouse guys generally get those from what I've seen.
>>
>>17664628
Aftermarket pipe on a bike?
Yup. That will effect resale value negatively.
>>
>>17664638
No it doesn't.. And you can keep the stock ones to easily put back on.
>>
>>17664647
>see "performance" modded bike for sale
>immediately assume its trash
Most people would agree.
>>
>>17664632
Sports cars are the biggest waste of money known to man.

Towing a bike to the track? Put it in the bed with a $100 ramp. Towing a car to the track? Get a really damn strong truck and a special trailer.
Storing your "fun" vehicle? Bikes take up a tiny amount of garage space. Sportscars take up an entire parking spot.
Gas? The bike has a five gallon tank that lasts 200 miles, the car has a ten gallon tank that lasts 200 miles.
Sportbike tires? Something that's good enough for you is $200 a tire. Two tires. Sportscar tires? $200 a tire is a starting point and you need four of them.
Crash repairs?
Cheap, easy to do, and sometimes purely optional on a bike, especially a track bike.
Costly and labor intensive on a car.
Engine work?
A bike engine with the transmission can be lifted manually if you aren't a manlet.
A car engine, well...buy a hoist.
Other work?
Bikes are about as hard to maintain as lawnmowers. The starting point for working on a car is getting it in the air and everything is spread out, heavy, and packed in all at the same time if it's modern enough to compete with bikes.

Check sportbike tracktimes, they rent out tracks for a day and sell spots for a couple hundred, also look up local riding schools and advanced rider courses. Check WERA, AHRMA, and AMA for amateur racing events that either your bike fits into or you can buy a cheap track bike for, they do a short racing school and amateur introduction things on race weekends.
>>
>>17664730
you forgot to mention how fucking expensive shit gets past the entry ticket, especially if you're getting competitive

>you need leathers
>they might not accept bilt or two pieces
>is your helmet's certification acceptable to the track? is it too old or not?
>tires and brake pads every couple of runs, maybe every run
>race pads will also chew up rotors

there's a cheapskate cup for ancient ninja 250s up in the PNW but they still allow race pads and tires
>>
>>17664662
A real performance exhaust from a reputable company (such as anons Leo Vince) will add resale value, certainly not the full $1000 he spent on it, but all other things being equal only autists like >>17664656 would prefer a bike with stock exhaust.

This doesn't apply to garbage like two deaf bros, Vance and Hines, and whatever other no name shit squids find to put on their GSXRs
>>
My bike occasionally gets stuck in gear, usually after short stops. Any idea what it meant be? Maybe a bent or warped shift fork? Doesn't seem to be a certain gear, it got stuck in 4th today.
>>
>>17664746
Anon didn't mention cost, I assume he knew that shits fucking expensive.
>>
>>17664755
You have to be a special kind of retarded to think a muffler of any type adds value to a bike.
>>
>>17664755
Brand name doesn't equal horsepower. Cheap ass delkelvics still improve performance a good bit.

I think you can get an extra 3HP everywhere with some of their pipes.
>>
>>17664762
It certainly doesn't decrease it and absolute worst case scenario it makes it easier to sell.
>>
>>17664762
>a $1000 performance exhaust won't add any value to a bike

>>17664785
Bullshit
Anyone with half a brain would know a modded bike has likely been thrashed and wrecked.
But then anyone with half a brain wouldnt be buying sport bikes
>>
>>17664776
if you don't have the stocker, had to cut and weld pipes to install the aftermarket shit, or otherwise damaged something (crimped a downpipe but used enough liquid gasket to make it work), it definitely hurts the value of the bike.

The less people want your choice of pipe the more it hurts the value. If you have some really cool looking 4-into-4 setup, yeah, i'd buy it, but some of the stubby carbon cans people have are fucking ugly and only good for making noise.
>>
>>17664776
What the fuck are you on about?

People make sure to inform you that 'the original exhaust is included in the sale' for a good reason. The closer to stock a bike is, the better.

You only have to do that with shitbikes, most bikes are just 1 bolt and 2 springs.

Will not shift out of gear with the clutch depressed, either up or down. Normally I have to release the clutch slightly and then depress it again in order to get it to shift, but that seemed not to work when I had it stuck in 4th today and I had to lug the fuck out of the engine and fight the stalling hard.

I have Leo Vince on my bike (put on by PO) and they sound absolutely amazing.
Crackle, pop, and growl way more than when I put the stock ones on and they're not even that much louder but I keep the silencers in.
I probably wouldn't have spent the money to buy them over stock but I'm glad they came with it.
