Name a worse place to be a car enthusiast in Canada.
>>
I can't. Southern Onterrible is the worst place in North America to be a car enthusiast.
>>
>>17656766
Alberta roads and weather hurt my soul, but you're right. Ontario sucks.
>>
>>17656766
Burger here, what's wrong with Canada, other than being cucked leftists?

>>17656784
Ontario is basically California but without any good roads.

Any problems that Ontario car enthusiasts have here are entirely self-inflicted. If you're not a brain dead shitbag degenerate it's a lot better here than many other places
>>
Canada as a whole
>>
>>17656831
Alberta is good aside from boring roads. Cheap(ish) fuel, insurance, and JDM ownership. I'll take gravel over acidic salt any day of the week. BC and NS are pricier but have nice roads.
>>
>>17656854
Edmonton is getting acid salt next winter, woo!

Bc is probably the best place, insurance and gas are pricier though. My bike insurance jumped from 45/month full coverage to 250/month for liability when I moved to BC from AB.
>>
>>17656880
Oh, great. I was planning to move to Cold Lake next year. Guess I'll limit my time in Edmonton during the winter then.
>>
>>17656880
That's still probably cheaper than Ontario.
>>
>>17656854
The NS is a pretty good place to be an enthusiast.

When I went into the DMV to get my beginners there was a woman there who had been driving for 35 years without her license before getting caught.

If you're from here you know someone who knows someone who can swap an engine in their driveway and will work for beer and cigarettes.

There's a pretty steady supply of used cars coming from out west that aren't rust buckets, and if you do have a rust bucket your mechanic will sign off on it anyway since cars rust out here fast enough he can pretend it was fine when it left the shop.

So many nice coastal roads

Ontario is a SHITHOLE.

http://barrie.ctvnews.ca/mobile/lamborghini-among-12-vehicles-impounded-for-stunt-driving-on-hwy-400-1.3351309

These guys were on a rally, and people "thought" they were speeding, no cops witnessed anything, and just vehicularily profiled these guys for stunt driving. Got impounded for a week and had to pay for that.

These guys raised $15k last year for a Christmas toy drive in one day.
>>
>>17656880
How can Alberta have such cheap insurance? It just doesn't make sense why the same thing costs literally 10x as much in Ontario.

Cheap Alberta insurance keeps a lot of people i know living there, even with the economy having gone to shit.

Fort Good Hope.
> Barely any roads
> Everything has to be brought in by aircraft or ship, so parts take ages
> Middle of fucking nowhere
> Really far north so it's cold all year round
>>
>>17656973
I always wondered what it'd be like living in some remote far north town, driving something like a lifted Focus RS/WRX STI with scandanavian winter tires. It sounds like a lot of fun.
>>
Why is Ontario bad?
>>
>>17656880
>Bc is probably the best place
I pay $200 fucking dollars a month for insurance on a shitty, shitty shitty old honda fucking fit, and that's with a 15% discount. Yesterday I got smogged by some faggot coal roller with "TRUMP" all along his 50ft tall truck. I regularly get driven off the road by old ladies trying to lane change into my car, i've been rear ended at a red light twice in a year, and somebody hit and run me at the gym a few weeks ago. And the only enthusiasts around here are 16 year old wigger vaping skinny douchelord faggots who suck each other off in their $1500 slammed straight piped maintenance neglected BMWs.

No, this province is a shithole.
>>
>>17656938
They had dash cam footage. Hence why it never got any more coverage. These people all got throughly fucked over so there was no publicity to be had of their supposed courageous escape from a throughly corrupt system which was the narrative at the time

>the taxes are terrible
>lots of bureaucracy, such as charging taxes for private used cars
>inspections makes the idea of buying disposable 300$ shitboxes for the winter impossible

>nearly impossible to drive an RHD vehicle here
>Toronto is a dump
I hate this fucking province, can't wait to leave it.

>>
>>17657182
In Alberta you can ride into the mountains / BC while still having dirt cheap Alberta insurance / no safety/smog / no private sale tax.
>>
>>17657159

Ontario's generally a shithole for a lot more reasons, but this is a good start. When the rest of the world hears about how shit Canada can be, just keep in mind, it's mainly Ontario they're talking about, not AB/SK/MB.
>>
>>17656948

Ontario is basically a giant prison camp for third world immigrants to funnel into and become debt slaves to fuel our economy that's withering because our government doesn't incentivize manufacturing.

>inspections are a joke, government pays for them and Pajeets pass you for a tenner
>easy availability of aftermarket parts
>anything not available can be shipped easily
>move an hour outside of Toronto for cheap homes with large driveways and cheap insurance
>plenty of great tracks a couple hours away at most

Ontario has extremely high fraud, especially on the auto side of things. Too many poos and chinks running fraud rings. Arabs use it to finance terrorism as well - they insure high end used vehicles, then file a claim for the "stolen" vehicle a few months later. In reality, the car is in a shipping container on its way to Qatar while we're stuck here wasting thousands on private investigators and credit checks to try and prove it's fraudulent. Our insurance laws are so fucking toothless that we can't effectively prosecute these fucks, so the companies compensate by gouging everyone with high premiums.

Dubai Fag here.

All you got here is Ferraris, Lamborghinis, McLarens, Bugattis, Paganis and Koengiseggs. Yeah and Porsche too. There are only a handful of Miatas here. I've yet to see ricer cars. Modified cars are very rare to find. However meets are there and most of em contains old US imported Lexus GS and other Lexuses because "Modders" here love Lexus so much. Modding a car is stupid expensive.

Dad owns a Maserati gran Turismo + a Gallardo. Friends own Ferraris, Lambos, etc.. I own a Lexus RC350 F sport because I like it's comfort. I find that owning and modding a car is just pointless here.

It's all about "Habibi I just got my 812 Superfast what are you getting next?! Oh Hameed, I just gave my order for a 911 GT3! "

I just wish the car culture here was more diverse and not just expensive supercars. Man it must be awesome up in the US, Japan and I'm sure Canada has better car culture than here.

Im renting in a 2.3 million house in downtown markham, its FUCKING TINY. The weather is shit, we don't even get a decent week of snow for snow drifting in the winter. The immigrants are all toxic because theyre trying to get rich quick and can't speak English.

When people say ontario is bad, its mostly just the GTA + waterloo

well its decently sized for a townhouse in the city. I rent it out with 6 other guys for like $600/ea.

Maybe in the middle of nowhere. Contrary to what some homeless 20 year old thinks, property values are tied to location, and location is tied to economic potential

>>17661857
I moved to Ottawa, it's like the GTA but cheaper and a bit more small town-y. If you want to go big-time, Halifax and some of the Maritime capitals actually have a lot of opportunities in IT and other industries. Alberta is also attractive, but I chose Ottawa instead. The good thing about Ottawa is that the overvaluing hasn't got the suburbs, so you can get a decent house for cheap in places like Nepean or Gloucester, and still be close to downtown.
Traffic is "bad" but if youre from Toronto it's a racetrack considering what the 401 and DVP can be like.
Also, there's a pretty big race and car show scene, and Canada's best racetrack is just outside Nepean

Terrible insurance prices, can't tune more than 20%, can't lower your car, exhausts have to be stock mostly mufflers are changed, no window tinting, can't be louder than 105 DB, every six months you have to pay half a months salary to be allowed to drive it. No wide tires, no fun allowed, arabs, police can send your car for a check up if they don't like your car (of course you have to pay for it), expensive fines. A dash cam is a necessity because insurance fraud and radar guided cruise control makes it alright

>>
>buy $5000 car
>pay $6000 for insurance per year

I'm 21 with a clean driving record and the cheapest shitboxes like 90s civic or a mk4 jetta would cost me around $500 a month to insure just because I live in Scarborough. My parents both with clean driving records and both have been driving for at least 35 years pay $800 a month for a brand new 2017 Honda Fit and a 2014 Grand Caravan.

I'm just gonna buy something from the 80's or early 90's and get classic car insurance on it so I can actually afford to keep a car. One of my friends has a 87 325i insured with Hagerty and pays 300 ish a year. Technically he's only insured to drive to like car shows and stuff like that for like 4 times a year but he dailies it and there's no way they can check. You can drive it for more but if you get in an accident and they find out you were going shopping or whatever with it they won't pay.

The GTA is what makes Ontario shitty.

They give us Liberal politicians, and are filled with Chang's, poos, and dirty fucking hipsters.

The roads are routinely clogged because the public transit is garbage, and the highways all run through the city, ie: no ring roads.

When Toronto got a mayor that actually wanted to build more subway lines, the lefties bitched and moaned about LRT like the idiots they are, yet still consider Toronto a "world class city". I fucking hate the place.

Anywhere outside of the south is a nice place to drive: lots of lakes, hills, and winding roads in decent shape. Just don't drive like an idiot.

As to the CAF cpl who spent $54k on a new car: LOL. Petawawa is filled with morons like you who spend that and more on 5 litre Mustangs and fucking pickups. You people make me laugh.
>>
>>17662396
I didn't look at any trucks as I had no interest in one. I'll give it a look tho. I only looked at small sedans, and I haven't actually called in anywhere. These are just online quotes. I'm most likely either gonna get insured under my dads name or find something older but in better shape and get classic car insurance. It might also be the area I live in, I'm in a not so great part of Scarborugh, I live around Markham RD and Ellesmere.
>>
I only pay $84 / month for my integra GS-R and I live in Ontario.

Moved here from Vancouver last year (drove) and I must say the driving / road conditions in this province are disgusting. Saying what you pay means nothing without age and driving history.

My only REAL complaints, as a fairly average person living in Ottawa, are these:
- tracks are few and expensive, no "track days" that I know of without joining clubs and paying through the ass
- high insurance for anybody without wrinkles and a clitoris
- "safety inspection" which just gouges anybody trying to plate their shitbox.
- emissions tests (not really an issue desu, only if you mod your engine HEAVILY or remove parts of the exhaust)
- roads within an hour of me are all flat and boring.

So then why would it matter whether you live in Ontario or not?
>>

It was more the fact that 12 cars had been seen driving aggressively in a formation, which absolutely qualifies as stunting.

The reality is these people were the stupid ones that finally got caught in the OPP's big crack down on asshats in fancy cars and motorbikes driving like assholes, aggressively weaving in and out of traffic, driving at high speeds, ect. For a long time the OPP's no chase under any circumstance has turned the GTA into an IRL GTA.

This wont be the last time you hear about this, and they'll be doing it more when this goes to court and a judge sides with the OPP, which WILL happen.

So well I agree with you that Ontario is a shithole, this was deserved.

Fellow ontarians. What should I do to prevent rust on my WRX? I just got it in April, and I really need it to last a while. Any tips?

Professional rustproofing, don't cheap out and get something with a long warranty

Stay away from anyone calling themselves a "car enthusiast" and you'll have no trouble at all. Driving prudently is also a good idea. Ontario isn't a fraction as bad as these people are making it out to be

stop acting like a kid and it's a nice place

There's some sections of highway in Manitoba, such as the old number 1 between Headingley and Portage or the 44 leading into Selkirk, that are okay. The bigger deal in my eyes is the ungodly amounts of snow and road salt.

What's to stop someone from just telling the insurance company they live in North Bay or whatever?
>>
>>17666267
If you tell them you live in North Bay but all of your transactions and stuff are in Toronto or something they'll catch on and it's considered insurance fraud
