at first i just thought it would be cool to have a car with the engine in the back, of course the mr2 being the easiest option but over time i really started to like these things more and more, they are such characterful cars which is unusual for japanese sports cars, these things are very porsche like but without the price tag.
i think the aw11 is definetly the coolest and best looking but im a rice boy and they dont have the biggest aftermarket so i prefer the sw20, of course i respect the zzw30 aswell but i feel like those have to be modified to really look good.
plus i want to have somthing a bit more uncommon to take to meets but not so obscure nobody knows what it is.

aaand its a very track oriented car with no easy mode retard proofing, i like that.

This is my 87 blacktop swap. It's currently in a bad way though. There's a surging idle that I have yet to diagnose and the swap itself is pretty janky but it runs so I'm just gonna try to fix it up as nicely as I can. Any ideas on the idle issue?

clean the throttle body, check for vacuum leaks, adjust the IAC screw, test your fuel pressure, maybe your fuel filter is clogged, see if those spark plugs/wires are any good

simple stuff, my bet is on vacuum leak

MR2s are such sexy cars. I'm definitely looking to get an SW20 in the next few years. How hard are they to work on?

there are only 3 things that are somewhat annoying to work on. everything else is the same, just bend over a little bit

1) intercooler, it's literally down in the side duct
2) fuel pump, my fucking god you have to drop the giant tank from under the car when they could've made a bolted on plate under the arm rest.
3) alternator, it's in an awkward spot in the bottom but hidden over the cross member.

that's actually it in my years of owning a really really beat one, mostly things you'll never have to do if it's a well maintained car or things you'll rarely ever need to touch.

don't let working on it scare you it's not difficult really, I've honestly had more troubles working on a 300zx and 3000gt

Mine had this problem, check the air hose between the afm and throttle body. Also small hose between TVIS and engine. If it's not that might be afm itself or throttle body.
