why haven't you ebay turbo'd your shitbox yet, /o/?
>>17647526
headgasket is 2 weak
The kits are usually the wrong size and require machining new parts. If I could machine my own parts I'd just make my own turbi instead of buying one off eBay.
Total waste of money that's why, also some meme about reliability.
>>17647526
Because I wouldn't waste money to ruin my perfectly good car with shit parts.

Have you ever considered how time consuming it is to construct things like these?
I have machined some pulleys for superchargers and power steering pumps in project cars.
Never again, time is more worth than the cost of buying shit like that by a factor of ten desu

Reminds me of this video:
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5I6FpfJ1_uI
I asked myself the same question when I installed ACL bearings during a crank replacement.
The answer is that I spent all my money on jack/jackstands/engine hoist/enginestand/seals/bearings/consumables and shocks during a crank replacement.
>>17648106
Also clutch, flywheel machining, coolant tubing, belts, pulley, bushings blah blah blah...
Nobody told me it would all add up.
Do you know how easy it is to 'just do things while you're there' while you're waiting for parts to arrive?

Tell me about it
replaced my oil pickup o-ring, and it ended up being a complete rebuild of the front suspension and a K-member paint job
>>17648067
This. Even making your own manifold from scratch would take hours upon hours of work.
>>17647526
are the "it will grenade and send shards of metal into your engine" memes true?
I love my shitbox and I don't want anything bad happening to it
>>17648275
If you have to ask then the answer is probably yes. If you don't what it to assplode the best method is to know what you are doing. Research, learn, and engineer your own system, or buy a shitbox that already has a turbo.
>>17648285
I was asking specifically about chink turbos, but okay
>>17648142
Top ten wildest wrenching sessions of all time
>>17648293
All turbos are made in china
>>17647526
I drive a VW UP, I doubt an ebay turbo would fit.
>>17647526
Cylinder walls are literally soda cans
Parents just gave me thier old 03 accord. It would be my 2nd vehicle and if I had the time more than anything I would probably try this. I'm a welder and know plenty of machinists but would be rude to do to the old Honda.
My current shitbox is too shitty to care
If the motor blows out before I finish my project shitbox, I'll probably put the better motor from the same car in it and maaaaaaybe a turbo if I've got some spare cash
Hear me out /o/
I'm thinking about buying the vw alltrack soon. It pretty much fits everything I'm looking for aside from hp/tq(170 stock).
I'm set on buying one, but would it but autismus maximus to throw an APR ecu chip to bring it to 225 hp and 238tq? Or even further, add an IS20 turbo out of the Golf R and chip that baby to stage 3 for over 300hp?
I feel like it'd destroy the car somehow, but I like the idea of having a wagon sleeper in the US
>>17647526
But I did
>>17647526
because i don't want to blow it up
https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=oFLqaSNp45Q
>>17650382
That seems like a big turbo for a miata.
>>17650379
I think the simple chip option sounds like the way to go. Up hills, passing, and a little fun when you want it sound like reasonable things to invest in for what you're buying.
>320hp alltrack
>drifting your kids to school
>>17650394
but its a chink turbo so it actually flows like one that's about 25% smaller
I'm not sure yet if I want to go turbo or N/A. Turbo means a lot more power for less money, but then again I want that straight-6 with ITBs, an aggressive cam, and a stainless steel header.
>>17647526
I bought a chinese turbo but imma fab up the exhaust and intake myself, fuck that chinese ebay shit, it'll just crack
>>17650464
this checks out
>>17650382
thoughts?
>>17650394
It is. Eventually I'll move to a smaller turbo. I autox in a small lot so the big turbo hurts but is a riot on the street
>>17650464
This is correct
>>17650702
It doesn't spool until after 4k but pulls like a freight train when it does. Makes for quite the street car. If/when I do it over I'll get a smaller brand name turbo for quicker spool and something that isn't a total piece of shit
>>17647526
Only existed when qualifying engines had to last qualifying and race engines only had to last the race.
>>17650394
For you
>>17648067
just buy an ebay turbo dude
