What's the deal with these?
Rally Homologation.
Quick, expensive.
The car that got Toyota banned from WRC.

Buying a 91' Celica is worth it?
The one I'm looking at has ice cold ac

A gt4/alltrac is always worth it if you're actually going to go through the trouble of keeping it road worthy.
If you're looking at a gt model, expect a zippy daily driver. If you're looking at an st, expect a gutless econobox that can be outrun by diesel box trucks

st is base model garbage with a 1.6 engine. the 2.2l is in the gt, same engine as the camry so parts are plenty. don't expect a quick speedy car, its very slow. get the 5 speed the autos are known to be slushboxes.
also common failure points are mostly from age not from engineering flaws such as wheel bearings, tranny oil leaks, weird 90 degree turn on a coolant hose which is tough to replace, alternator failure along with the distributor failing. other then that it was a solid car for me kinda miss it

Toyotas still ran in the wrc during those years in the wrc class
I'll concede they weren't at RAC in 95

How much work for full st205 swap? I'd imagine you can bring over a whole front end with powertrain and such. Doable with about 15k?

The model OP posted isn't a base model or a GT, but a Celica All Trac which are absurdly rare but were sold stateside. They got the same 3SGTE 2.0L Turbo as the MR2, but came with the Celica GT-Four's AWD system

why dont you just buy an st205 lol their not that expensive
