OP, it's pretty much up to driver mod at that point. You're likely to take him off the line because turbo, but he has the way better chassis and drivetrain layout for speed. Any moron can drive a Tiguan, they're FWD and have lots of low end torque. E55 AMG merc didn't come with a 6spd getrag and weighs about 800 pounds more. Also it's a sedan.

M3 is way more track oriented, which is at least half the reason I bought the car. I love just a couple hours away from Willow Springs.

I won't get into the whole AMG vs ///M debate because I don't care, but the E55 is completely incompatible to the e46 M3. The extra power from the e55 is really just to help its fat ass in a straight line.

Well, except for the other things I said that go along with "Newer". Car engineering changes a lot over 2+ model gens.

The BMW is an xdrive, otherwise that RWD would put a little more power to the road. And over 11 years, transmissions have gotten better. Too lazy to research, but if the BMW has a typical 5spd auto and the VW has some 7spd DSG, that helps as well. Those little VW turbo engines don't need to get to 4500rpm to spool up either. And if old BMW is on it's 4th Slav owner by now, who knows what has happened.

And the Tiguan isn't a giant SUV either. He said they are really close in weight.

So there is a lot more to it than "Sports Sedan vs CUV". Just look at some of the ridiculous lap times people post of 25 year old sports cars vs new econoboxes. But I think if it were a RWD BMW and closer in age, the BMW would have no problem. Those BMW 6ycl engines pull bretty gud compared to other sedans of that age, but those tarbo 4cyl VAG engines aren't bad either.
