so my riders

I am going on a trip to Denmark, approx. 1100km

I am going on my ER-5, it never failed me. Recently I had to chance the sealing on water pump and that was all I had to do as of late on the bike. I think it can hold it all the way and then back. It was always taken care of a lot

What I am asking about, is what to bring. I am thinking of emergency tire repair, oil and cleaner for the chain, and I am getting an insurance if something really bad fucked up and it wouldn't go anymore.

What else should I bring/take care about?

>Brembo brakes
>2010
Well, you already know he's a liar
Check the frame for damage since rebuilt title

Got mine for around the same and less kms, but it was lowered

The front light has been replaced because he crashed, they're the same across models, but the shroud changes

Check the front forks for damage, if you find any you should replace the front end with a RSV's

Turn it on, cold
It will hiccup unless he has a fatduc, it's normal and you can fix it for 20$
Don't rev it cold, wait for at least 1 bar on the dash

While cold check underneath the filter for oil, it leaks from there if you don't screw the filter tight

While running put it in 1st, hold the clutch in and tap the starter buttons a couple of times
If the letter next to the speedo gets higlighted or changes he's legit

Try to get me a picture of the switchgear and the battery area, you can pinpoint the model that way

Pre 2010 they suck and if you wanted a good model back then you needed to get the MY2010 or factory works, both would come with the bellypan (he doesn't have one)

If the ABS light comes on or you can spot ABS rings in the brake rotors walk away

It looks like it has brembo brakes in the photos. Maybe they came with the forks when he replaced them?

If it's rebuilt the bike has to get checked over by a mechanic before it can go from salvage>rebuilt, the frame should be good but I always check it anyways.

Thanks for the tips, why does pre 2010 suck?

Why would you drive from Frankfurt to Beijing (and miss out on the opportunity of riding the Transsib)?
>>
>>17631778
The shiver has brakes "designed by Brembo" aka Aprilia knockoff, it doesn't come with Brembo masters, just rebranded slaves and braided lines

Pre 2010 has THE shittiest fueling, if at any point the throttle feels wierd you should be able to ask a dealership to update the map for free during a service
They also didn't come with proper butrons so you had to lift the seat to change throttle map

Btw
ECU passcode is 12398
You can access the dashboard diagnostics that way (and change from iperial to metric, if you feel like it)
>>

Studded tires is OK at least here in Norway, you just have to pay tolls for them. I don't know about Sweden, but I think it's the same deal.

Also, why drive up the Swedish east coast? Why not see the west coast of Norway? Dem fjords n shit

Cb500x. It does light off-road, leftover models go for as much as a grom.
Can be upgraded for harder, single track too. If you live in Deliverance rural, not Signs rural.

It's mostly lawyer asspadding
It serves nearly no purpose since most bikes come pre-broken in from factory

If your bike was anywhere North of 7k new they had it broken in and dynoed before it even left the production line

Most if not all toll roads in Norway are free for motorcycles, but if you want to go motorbiking in the winter in Norway I suggest you get some really fucking studded tires, like, with 12 inch spikes or something. Good luck with that.

My SC bros rode on permits without any problem. An accompanying rider cannot do anything for you, unlike someone riding shotgun.

I've lived and ridden in SC since 1985, but my didn't get my license here. I've never heard of anyone getting cited for unaccompanied biking.

Get permit and if possible take MSF course. If not possible buy Proficient Motorcycling and study it since riding is not really intuitive.

SC test DMV test ares are designed for midgets on scooters. Practice slow speed control in a parking lot environment if new to riding by using your rear brake to control rear wheel speed while slipping the clutch and revving engine moderately. MSF teaches that too.

Vacuum fuel valves exist to piss me off. You can often replace them with a purely manual fuel valve. Whatever you have, learn how it works.

Typical vacuum fuel valve:

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=y0l-xLZuY24

Check model specific forums for a manual fuel valve swap. Valves are cheap. You have to remember to shut off your fuel valve when parked, but millions of bikers before manual fuel valves managed...most of the time.

You'll have to pull the other side cover off, the screw that holds it to the arm that moves the shift drum probably snapped. You'll need a new gasket and a 3 dollar screw. You may have to remove the clutch basket to get to it.

Would turn it off if it had an off.
All I got is res, on, and pri.
All 3 put fuel through.

there's one small town i ride through on the way to a touge where everyone gets in a pissy mood about wheelies and flips us off. Every other small country town I come by people love it.

Do they put fuel through at all times, engine running or not?

Only pri (prime) should flow with engine off. Prime is also fine for running the motorcycle too and is the same a "on" on a manual fuel valve. The vacuum modes are res (reserve) and on. They should not flow fuel without the engine running. If they do flow fuel with the engine off then it's a typical failure and valve needs to be fixed or replaced which is simple to do. A valve with a bunch of crud, corrosion etc in it may not flow enough to sustain highway operation. Tanks get some nasty shit in the bottom.

Most fuel valves come off with two 10mm bolts. Inspect your vacuum and fuel hoses ensuring they aren't dry rotted, kinked or damaged.

I waved at the first like 50 scooters i saw and never got a wave back so those are the only guys I just ignore now. Adv riders are a close second.
>>
>>17633335

It's not about what serves the best purpose, it's about whats the most fun to ride.

Do you even have a bike?

>>17633398

scooters probably don't know about the wave and think you have having a stroke or flipping them off desu
>>
>>17633362
maybe you should grow a fucking pair of balls and learn how to ride instead

something is strange here. You have dirt tires on your street bike and street tires on your dirt bike?
>>
>>17633412
They are easy to do. I usually remove the fuel tank to drain it before removing the fuel valve.

If you don't have a service manual, you can often find them online. The Carl Salter site is good as are forums, and having a .pdf on your phone can come in handy.

Tanks pretty empty already, and the first thing I did when I got the bike was find a service manual. I was surprisingly easy to find online.
Might end up doing it tomorrow if I'm not swamped.

You have much to learn young Jethro. These people are the reasonable ones. Using things for different purposes than intended can be quite fun. Once you actually own a bike and make it through your hormonal years, things will start to make sense.

>>
>>17633596
But that 530, the worst KTM made in the last 20 years.

There is a reason they were modding 530 frames to take 525rfs motors when the 530 came out.

They are loud/noisy. You should check the roller on the end of the rocker arm every time you check valves.

They still have that problem with the 690s

If you have had it for a while you know what it sounds like, just listen for a big change.
