You're looking at the winner of a rather pointless race.
Buddy of mine with an frs said he wanted to race.
When he got to the finish he was all mad cause I could go between cars.

This weekend I'm taking a look at a couple of Honda VFR 750s

Red one is from 95 and has 40k miles on the clock and a 6 month dealer warranty. Also comes with a case.

Black one is from 94 and has 15k miles and a 1 year dealer warranty. Has the single seat cover.

Price is the same on both. The red one has the 2 seat (wanna be able to take my gf with me) and the case that might come in handy and is the closest dealer.

The black one is farther away but has alot less miles and longer dealer warranty.

I'll try and talk the price down on the red one but I'm still a bit undecided. Wat do?

dropped sv650-anon here again.

I had to replace my right side foot rest/rear master cylinder bracket. While I was in there I lubricated my brake lever so its very smooth now.

I figured I would take my shifter apart (aftermarket lever/pedal) and I would lubricate it. Whoever put it on, used either red Loctite or fucking epoxy on the threads, so that shit isn't coming off. However, after putting it back together, occasionally my shifter will feel really weird while downshifting into 1st.

Do you guys ever get a "mushy" shifter feel? I know I'm in first but the shifter keeps moving down in a weird manner. Did I fuck up putting something back together? There's a ball on the shifter lever itself and theres a socket on the shifter rod that goes onto the shifter input to the trans.

It is UNBELIEVABLY nimble. Likes to stall in first because it's a long fucking gearing but they're really punchy little fuckers and an absolute dream to throw around. I did the entire course with ease while watching new riders struggling on eliminators and TWs

Okay, dumb question.
Did some short forest service road today, am not an expert at all. However my little machine did fine for the stretches I tried.
If people don't really take their giant adv offroad, wouldn't it make more sense to buy a standard and knobbies? I know the modern cb--- and the sv650 could survive the rev range that seemed most comfortable today. They're much lighter, and if you want to tour you could buy bags and a screen anywhere.

Are more modern ones special somehow? People forgot ujm used to start with "universal"?
>>
>>17613996
Looks disgusting
>>
>>17614756
If people who bought ADV bikes and didn't take them off road were interested in sense they wouldn't buy ADV bikes and not take them off road, they're posers.

And yes they are special somehow, off road intended suspension, low CoG and rotating mass, crash bars to protect the important parts, and massive tanks for long distance stuff. For the rare few people that actually take their ADV bikes off road that stuff is actually pretty important, companies spend a lot of time and money making a 500 lb touring bikes as good off road as possible.

Got my 2005 Katana's idle problem under control with the convenience of only having to use sea foam. Now I need to figure out my gas cap issue. How does the tank vent and how would I go about putting a new cap/baseplate on there? New rider and not sure how this works but I really need to cause it doesn't even have one on there. PO Jerry rigged some tight pvc around a lawnmower cap to keep it tight so it doesn't leak if it stays mostly upright, but anyone can just waltz by and steal gas if they want, plus vapors will leak out and I'll slowly but surely lose gas from evaporation.

I live in an area with just as good of riding (dare I say maybe better) off the Mississippi River and my 10R is setup for it. But that doesn't mean I don't appreciate drag racing. I used to live right near GLD (Great Lakes Dragaway) and was also briefly on a drag-racing crew for Old Tymer Racing. Not bikes but rather a rail primarily that would primarily bracket race dialed in for 8.50's...nothing too crazy. There is so much more to dragracing than just twisting a throttle or flooring a pedal. I think you might understand that if you actually tried it or watched it and tried to understand what was all involved in a good pass. Or stay in the dark, but it is a shallow way to live life anon.
>>
>>17615639
I built my own rather than buying a kit.

Normal first aide shit, added a tourniquet ( 15 feet of 1/2 inch tubular webbing, has many uses ) and a serous pair of shears to cut leathers off if needed to get serious bleeding.

You can cobble together splints from trees/bushes if needed.
>>

>>
>>17615690
Did you actually say twisties not found off the Mississippi? LOL I think you might actually have a brain injury. I live on bluffs overlooking the Mississippi at the top of a 600 foot hill. No mountains here...but very very hilly. Twisties everywhere. There are twisties every fucking where. Every. Where. As soon as you get away from the road that runs parallel to the river you are in twist country.

>Top KEK indeed.

So I will ask: Have you ever drag raced at a 1320 dragstrip? Bracket raced? Cut a perfect light? Bopped someone on the big end? Concentrated on drag launching and cutting a perfect 60 foot?

If you say it is boring it's because you are doing it wrong...or more probably not doing it at all.

Yes and it's boring. Sorry my opinion hurts your feels so much.
>>
>>17615812
Oh I see. You have bracket raced. Cut a perfect 60 foot. Cut a perfect light. Bopped someone on the big end.

So you should have no problem expanding on these concepts for me seeing as you have already done it all. What vehicle did you run? What motor? What trans? What did you weigh? What safety equipment was mandatory for your time? What was a good 60'? What were you trapping? What was your bracket dial? How consistent were you in the bracket? Ever win the night? What does bopping them on the big end mean? I eagerly await seeing how full of shit you are.

What else could've gone when the rectifier died?

just discovered this garage that's literally across the road from my house
they rent out ramp bays and let you use their tools so you can work on your own bike in a lit, warm garage
as an aside they also offer courses for any repairs that you might need, so they'll not only fix your bike but walk you through it so you can do it yourself if ever you need to

sounds like a self defeating business, but can't fault them on their principles

But at least it's ludicrous block had function. How else would you have a 6 cylinder engine back then?

How much rust is too much rust? I was looking at this 99 KLR but there was good deal of rust on it. Kinda put me off. But it's a 18 year old dual sport so I expect some.
I realize I didn't get a great shot of the rust but there are spots all over the frame. Rear shock looks pretty rusty too.

what i would carry
- a couple of bandages for serious bleeds

- a couple of sterile eye wash bottles for bugs etc. in eyes
- band-aids in a few sizes for cuts and burns
- paracetamol, ibuprofen, anti-emetics, rehydration packs
- water bottle, energy bar
- resus face mask

what more are you really going to use?

I did the same thing, beater cb250 nighthawk -> CB500F (in fact my 500f is the OP pic too)

I love my cb500f, I can't really say there's anything I dislike about it mechanically (I still wish it had a bucket headlight though)

to me, riding at speed on the bike isn't really an issue. It's only bad when there's already strong winds, and even then you can mostly mitigate it by tucking in

Nice. Common mechanical shit to look out for?

Also are there aftermarket options to upgrade the suspension? I've read reviews saying handing suffers a bit when the road is less than stellar and the non-adjustable front suspension isn't fantastic for city riding, and I live in downtown ATX. I can deal if staying stock is the best option but Id like to explore upgrade options if they're out there.

The wind isnt annoying or fatiguing at all until about 80mph.
>>
>>17617254
You just reminded me, the only thing I dislike about the bike is the lack of aftermarket stuff. What it gets is usually designed for the 500X or 500R, with an "also works with 500F!" sticker, and even then the aftermarket pool is small.

the number one complaint I read about the bike is the fact that it's not manufactured in japan, so there's a notion that the welds are inferior to Honda's other bikes. I haven't noticed anything though.

The suspension is fine for me since I live in Scenic Urban Grid, Florida. The rear suspension sometimes feels a bit soft in turns with bumps, even after I clear the turn I'll still feel a slight bouncing from the spring. I think it has rear shock preload adjustments though, I just haven't checked them out yet.

Also don't listen to the 70MPG meme, if you ride it like I do (stop and go urban traffic with the occasional pull), you'll get around 50-53 mpg.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/K%C3%A1rm%C3%A1n_vortex_street
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Vortex-induced_vibration

tl;dr: your bike causes the little fishtails like in the animation to fly towards/over you. When the fishtails smack your helmet it knocks your head to the side. If they happen to be osscilating at the right frequency, your head will fly to one side just as another hits the other, sending you back and forth

Pretty clean for its age and mostly original. They are getting harder to find and that one is nice enough to gradually restore. Hit British and BSA forums. The manuals and parts catalogs should be easy to find and download free.

https://www.carlsalter.com/bsa-service-manuals.asp

Replace all fluids including fork oil, inspect and repack wheel bearings and do a thorough inspection of the wiring harness. Stock seats are pretty comfortable and covers are easy to find.

WARNING. Make sure your ignition timing is correct on both cylinders, verified with a strobe timing light. One set of points can be off enough to hole a piston. There are plenty of good electronic ignitions for British twins which work much better than points. Perform a charging system test with a voltmeter to ensure all is truly well.

If you are in driving distance of Ohio, this group puts on a fucking outstanding rally at a comfy campground. Lots of BSA gurus and a wide variety of vintage and antique bikes.

http://www.ohiovalleybsaownersclub.com/

If you can make Barber Vintage, do it. Fantastic swap meet and IMO it blows away Daytona.

http://www.barbermuseum.org/events/barber-vintage-festival/

Chopping or cafe'ing one that nice would be retarded and slay the value.

There is only one seat and the rear padded object is called a pillion pad. Keep and enjoy but they aren't remotely stock and were fitted as either a bizarre fashion statement or because the stock seat pan was damaged.

Patina sells (it's a current fad) but it's wise to preserve what you have as a basis for future resto if not by you, then by whoever you sell it to.

You have to be a mechanic to ride BSAs on a regular basis. Check forums so you get the right tools for each fastener to avoid mutilating them, including a hand impact driver if you ever need to pull side case screws, because the hammer blow on the butt of the driver forces the screwdriver bit into the screw head. They are about 15 bucks.
