Hey /o/

I was curious about opinions regarding performance sedans. I am in the market looking for a used sedan that:

- Has decent performance characteristics, i.e. turbo/supercharged/v8 with >300hp
- Can drive everyday even in snow (AWD probably necessary),
- Big enough to hold a couple pieces of luggage

The list that I usually see involves these cars:

>Audi S4
>BMW 335i
>Cadillac ATS
>Chevy SS
>Dodge Charger
>Ford Taurus SHO
>Jaguar XF
>Mitsu Evo
>Volvo S60
>Subaru WRX

TL;DR: What is the best Used Performance Sedan on the market right now?
>>
Lexus ISF has decent power, should be reliable and doesn't break the bank. No AWD however and it is still just an overpriced Toyota
>>
>>17607522
Chevy SS, bar none.
The Volvo, Ford and Audi are FWD-based, the BMW and Jag are moneypits, the ATS should've had a V8, the Charger is pigfat and the Evo and Impreza feel like cheap shitboxes inside.
Oh, and none of the other cars pack the Actual Greatest Engine Ever Madeā„¢ under the hood, the LS.
>>
>>17607540
How about an Infiniti G37/Q50
>>
>>17607591
Slower than the SS, worse handling than the SS, only a V6 and no torque.
>>
Evo if you don't care about comfort, noise, or driving with an erection.
>>
>>17607522
Really depends on how much you can afford.
>>
>>17607522
>Chevy SS
Unfortunately GM everything. Apart from the engine expect everything else to fail.

I'd pick the Subaru, but most likely the LGT or something besides the WRX. However unlike GM, expect the engine to fail while everything else holds up.

>Snow & AWD
Proper tires will go further than AWD.

>Posts a fucking Audi S4 "Understeer" queen

This board is condemned.

>>17607676
This, OP should've posted our queen Giulia, not some rebadged VW understeermobile.

I test drove all of these besides the Evo and the Volvo. I really liked the ATS, the 335, the charger, and the SS. I ended up buying the SS because I really wanted a V8 and a manual. I almost bought the 335, but I've had 3 bimmers before, and I didn't want to deal with the maintenance any more. I'm really happy with the SS so far.
>>
>>17607540
Aren't S60s decently balanced for being fwd based?
>>
>>17607522
despite me hating audis
you want the audi
its literally what you're describing
however if you hate audis like me, get the chevy ss and have fun sliding in the snow
>>
>>17607522
Just get the Chevy SS if you can afford it.
>>
>>17607613
Pretty much this. Front seats are pretty comfy though unless you get the 2015 model which don't have Recaros.

I'd go with the SS or the Evo. Despite what /o/ thinks, all the cars listed by OP are respectable (although I admit I know very little about the Jaguar).
>>
335i are good but most are past 75k miles at this point. If you get one expect to do all the typical stuff like cooling system, ofhg, o2, etc

I forget which years have the better engine, but as far as modern bmw cars go it's a good buy for the price. easy to make power and be a supreme gentleman
>>
>>17607522
you can find subaru parts everywhere so maintenance is much easier than a german car

I'm saving for a cts-v. Why not get it or the ats-v used? Reg cts is 270 HP I think. Bi gengines but 550-620 HP and supercharged v8-6
>>
>>17607924
ATS-V is twin turbo V6 475hp
>>
>>17607699
>>17607817
Not OP, I'm pretty much sold on the car, but I have a question about the transmission. I've never driven a manual before and will be driving in traffic a lot. Should I still opt for a manual SS or just get the more common/cheaper auto? I know its not a purist car unless its manual, but it will be my DD and I'd rather not kill myself in Houston traffic.
>>
>>17607540
Jesus dude shill harder, the SS isn't a bad car but criticizing the evo and impreza interiors is totally hypocritical, chevy interiors are burning garbage tier

Also any car is a money pit if you're too retarded to maintain it so that's an invalid point as well
>>
>>17607978
most modern manuals aren't bad for DD even in traffic if you know how to keep it moving without fully coming to a stop

I commute about 1-1.5hr in stop-go traffic depending on the day with a manual. don't be a bitch
>>
>>17607924
I think that since I viewed it as one step higher tier...maybe in the realm of like an m5? Thats why it kinda stopped me from looking at it.

It can be learned enough to drive around in a day.

My first car, a 1985 Nissan Sentra, was a manual. Immediately after getting the clutch kit in I drove off to the city to pick a girl up for a date. I had horrifying downshifts, but all was well. Near the end of the night I was taking off smoothly and my first to second shifts were becoming seamless.

If you're going cheap, then an older WRX or STI is your best bet. Old Taurus SHOs are great too.
If you're willing to spend more and get a newer car, Chevy SS. The new Charger Scat Pack is also a great option. Also the Pontiac G8.
The Audi S4 isn't a bad choice either but have fun with matinence costs m8.

Im not sure what your definition of cheap is, but engine rebuilds because of ringland failures are not cheap.
>>
>>17611822
Just find one that's been well maintained.

If it's been modified make sure it has a proper tune and an oil catch can.

If you want to avoid all head gasket issues buy a Bugeye WRX as they came with the EJ205 instead of the EJ255 and they are known for being more reliable.

I just bought a 2010 S4 quattro 6MT w/ under 34K mi for $22,000 USD (cash deal).

Had it inspected by an independent shop run by a former factory trained Audi mechanic. He said it was "like new.'

that supercharged 3.0L V6 is fast as hell. comfy ride, luxury car bells and whistles.

Don't believe all the Audi hate by the LARPers of aut/o

I just bought a 2014 S4 (my third Audi) and it's really good in many ways.
>- Has decent performance characteristics, i.e. turbo/supercharged/v8 with >300hp
It's got the 3L supercharged. throttle response is instance and there's a ton of power
>- Can drive everyday even in snow (AWD probably necessary),
I've only had mine a few weeks, so no snow yet, but I've had Audi's in the snow and it works pretty well even in poor conditions
>- Big enough to hold a couple pieces of luggage
This S4 has the biggest trunk that I've ever had. I recycle and I've already fit 2 big totes comfortably in the trunk without folding the seats forward. It helps that the trunk interior is quite square so it fits square objects better than if there were wheel wells.

Mine looks just like this (monsoon gray with this grill) but mine has magma red seats.
Among other reasons, I also like the B8 because the LCD in inset in the dash and a little out of the way. Newer B9's screens are popping out of the dash and are a bit garish.

I test drove that same exact one and I really liked it. How do you think upkeep will be? What kind of mpg do you get?

Also, would I be disappointed with the A4 manual? I'm assuming it will be too slow and normal of a car.
>>
Get a higher trim Charger.
>>
>>17614406

>I test drove that same exact one and I really liked it. How do you think upkeep will be?
I had a 2007 A4 before (it was totaled, and got this S4) and the upkeep on the A4 wasn't bad for the 11 years that I had it. I needed to keep a quart of oil in the trunk for it and top it off once a year when it beeped, but eh.

I bought the S4 through the local dealership and I got the tire and wheel replacement service. One thing around here is I went through 5 tires not for wear purposes, so I'll get my money's worth from that. It's one upkeep that now has a fixed cost.

If the upkeep works like my A4, aside from the warranty still on it, I'm not concerned for at least 5 years. Given that 2014 is well into the B8 chassis and Audi probably figured out problems with the line earlier, it should be a good car to keep for a good while.

>What kind of mpg do you get?
To be honest, I haven't sat down to figure out the computer to know what it says about my personal mpg. It says 27.0 mpg, but I dunno if that's based on a single trip or what. I've had it for less than 2 weeks and just eyeing the gas gauge, it's okay if you're not on it all the time. If you're concerned about gas mileage, you'll be pleasantly surprised that it's not sucking up as much gas as you might think.

>Also, would I be disappointed with the A4 manual? I'm assuming it will be too slow and normal of a car.
My 2007 A4 was a 6 speed and it was a great car and I do miss it. It wasn't slow and certainly wasn't normal in the way you mean. I did have a lot of fun with it and got into some trouble with it.

I can put Holden badges back on it all I want, legally on the registration it's still a Chevy though. Also it's gonna be a little difficult to replace the SS embroidery on the dashboard with an SSV panel since the LHD one is backwards from the RHD one, and the Holden airbag cover and key are expensive. There is a guy on the SS forums who will reprogram your ECU to show the Holden logo on the infotainment and gauge cluster screens, but then you have to not drive your brand new $50k car for a couple weeks because it's all torn apart.
