It did have a laser detection system but it would only detect it when they used it. They fucked me really though because they were set up on a bridge over the highway and had cars waiting on the next on ramp. Still to poor for Have Glass.

the article which you reference from mike valentine actually says that it's a bullet point for most radar detector companies and not really used by any police/emergency departments, which is essentially accurate (there are two tiny ones that bought into it in the 90s thinking vehicle manufacturers would come on board, but they didn't).

I have a valentine one and just drive whatever speed im comforatable at all the time. Usually ~85 on highway some days its 100. Just got a cell phone ticket from a cop w radar off in a small town.

No one, literally no one, even knows how many criminal offences there are federally in the US. Everyone who drives a car, has a job, or uses a computer or phone commits numerous felonies every day. Yet speeding and drug laws are well over half of enforcement.

Respecting "the law" is the dumbest shit you can do.

I am in no way ashamed of using my radar detector and I am man enough to fight my tickets if by chance I do get one anyway. I was pulled over in January for speeding and went and fought it in court this past April because I felt that the charge was made up. I got acquitted.

Why did I think the charge was BS? Because my RD never alerted when I passed the cop. I asked him if he shot me with laser and he said radar. Well maybe it was instant-on and my detector wasn't responsive enough? Not likely, even if it was IO I still would have picked up the signal, just likely after he had my speed. You can't transmit just for less than 0.1s. You can't rely on a reading taken in such a short time window and you have no tracking history. Smelled like bullshit and it was bullshit. Saved me from an unnecessary ticket.

I even went and reverse engineered the analog front end of a K-band radar gun for this case. The section of the circuit immediately after the Gunn diode, cavity resonator, antenna, and Schottky mixer diode. Fun fact, if you disconnect the antenna from that input jack and connect a signal generator to it and sweep the frequency from a little over 1kHz to about 8kHz or so you can make any speed appear on the radar display between about 20 and 150MPH. Pretty neat.

Yeah fuck x band lmao. I actually ran across a cop using it a couple weeks ago though. It's usually Ka band. Radar detector go off randomly but they're worth it when you actually don't see a cop.
