>bought car a week ago
>somehow passed inspection while i was buying it
>this week, battery died, lots of leaks started happening
>got someone to lift it, see all the rust
>exhaust is about to rot through
>oil pan threads are worn out

What's the best way to deal with the shitbag who sold me this? Should I just call and chew him out or would it be better to get an attorney to scare his pants off?
>>
>>17577790
You stupid dickhead, he did nothing illegal here. You're the dumbass that didn't check under your car. Too cheap to visit the mechanic first too, eh goyim?
>>
The best way to deal with this, is by hanging your useless head in shame. You bought the car without giving it a proper, thorough inspection, and yet you are somehow surprised that the car had some pretty glaring faults?

Neck yourself, retard. You brought this upon yourself. Think of this as a learning experience.
>>
>>17577790
Caveat emptor. You should've got down on the ground and looked at that shit before you bought it.

I should mention this was a dealer and not a private sale, if it was i would be screwed out of a refund by now since it passed inspection. Personally I'm more pissed about the oil pan threads more than anything.
>>
>>17577790
what kind of dumbass buys an old car without ever looking under it
>>
>>17577790

That looks pretty typical for a 10-year-old car in the northeast. You're saying you didn't even look under the car before you bought it? Idiot.

Unless you live in a "no as is sales" state likes Massachusetts you're on your own. Even in one of those states you have to prove the seller was aware of the problem and didn't disclose it to you.
>>
>>17578389
>I should mention this was a dealer

Look up the dealer laws in your state. And read the sales agreement.
>>
What model and year is that and how much you paid? Looks flooded if you don't live north. If the dealer hid any vice you should be able to have your money back in most civilized places.

This is MA. I know it was rusted I just didn't see that everything BUT the catalytic converter was rusted. I might have to ask for legal consult to help prove this case, not sure if they charge for that.
>>
>>17578349
Lmao ayyy
>>
>>17578577

You're not going to have an easy time of this. Depending on the specifics of the sale dealers have more protection than private citizens in this state.

If you were aware the car had underbody rust you're going to have a nearly impossible time proving you're owed for one extra bit. Think small claims court.
>>
>>17578577
>>17578632

Also from these pics I'm not seeing anything unusual going on for a car here in Mass. I have an '00, an '04, and an '05 that look like that.

What's the story with the leaks? That might be the only thing you could harass a dealer about. Probably could get them to replace the battery too.

That rust is typical for a salted part of the country.

Like i said, more pissed about the oil pan but also not aware of this kind of rust, rather shocking for someone whom never lived in the Northeast. Could probably get the guy to cover repairs at the worse with MA express warranty. Paid 3k for this Prelude, but i have a feeling I was jewed out for something that might be worth only $500.
>>
people in the northeast put up with rusted ass cars?

west coast master race holy shit. why would you be okay with your car being 50% rust?
>>
>>17578673

I'd be happy getting an '03 that clean underneath. My 2004 Mustang already has holes in the trunk floor and I just replaced all the shocks because they rusted through. One of the shock towers is going as well.

The nigger wheels should be a sign you got a bad deal though. Never buy a nigger car.

>>
>>17578915
>>17578657
I have this feeling that it's not that the guy bought a lemon, but his mechanic or friend scared him into returning the car he just bought.
>>
What are some things I should look out for when buying from a dealer?
Got my wife's car used but it was only a few years old and not a lot of miles so it wasn't messed up in the first place. But I'm looking at some older cars and don't want something I'll have to trash in a couple years or spend thousands on repairs.
>>
>>17579064
Look for things that are broken and can't easily be fixed lol. WTF do you think? Learn about particular cars' weak points and design flaws then look for good examples of said car. If you're just buying lolwhatever, make sure the shock towers aren't rusted, there's no oil in the coolant, no coolant in the oil, no horrible noises, no problem shifting and no warning lights coming on after you burn through a couple loops on the outerbelt.

>bitching about replacing the battery and leaks

If you don't know shit about cars, spend a weekend with Youtube and a few good books. You got time for this, you got time for that. Head on over to /t/ for some auto manuals. A lot of this stuff is pretty typical for an older car, and you should have been expecting it. A lemon this ain't. You're a little naive is all. Dealers don't SELL cars; they FLIP them.

Rust: I've seen worse. If it's literally eating holes through the actual frame, then you'd better start saving up for another car. Otherwise, it's really not that big a deal; you'll have to replace stuff here and there (rotors, maybe calipers), and yeah, it'll cost money, but again--you should have been prepared to spend money beyond the sticker price.

Pan threads: New drain plug, or a garage to tap new threads in the pan.

Check the suspension, steering, cooling and brake systems for leaks or corrosion. Don't fret over the leaks unless it's QUITE LITERALLY DRIPPING out of the vehicle; it'll be cheaper to keep it topped off. Don't go crazy with "stop-leak" or other meme fluids; you probably won't get the results you want. Now, if the car is burning oil off (probably is), then keep a couple quarts in the trunk, check it whenever you fill up the tank, and top off as needed. If you're topping off more than half the crank capacity between oil changes, then you're burning it off before it can do its job. I'd consider a new car.

Exhaust: Don't worry about it until inspection time rolls around, and even then, you can usually ask around for a place that'll overlook stuff and slap a sticker on there. You'd be surprised what passes an "inspection." Just...roll the windows down if you're sitting at an idle for a while.

For the most part, you (and most others in this thread) are blowing this out of proportion. You walked on the lot wanting a shitty "cool" car, and that's what you got. Lesson learned.

Thing is, shitty PCV systems suck in oil droplets. In that case, burning oil ain't no thang.

Drilling out the old threads and tapping new threads is by far a stronger repair, short of a brand new oil pan. Unless anon is complaining about a completely fucked up pan, it should be a relativity cheap fix.

It's only rusted because of the salt they use on the roads during winter. In Colorado they use sand so their cars don't get all rusted to hell.
>>
>>17577790
The majority of lemon law clauses in the US apply to vehicles bought new that have recurring issues. Sounds like you let some Goldberg BHPH dealer ream your anus.
If you didnt buy a 'sold as is no warranty' vehicle, raise all the hell you can.

Gotta say pass on it, unless you're in the market for pure eye candy as it really looks sweet.

The down side is that for that much money, you'd want something that is numbers matching preferably including the original engine and exhaust parts that were removed. I'm pretty sure that all V8 models had hood scoops and that one also appears to have a bubble butt which wasn't available until '83.

On the flip side, it's an automatic which takes away a lot of the fun in these cars but the paint is so nice you probably wouldn't want to slide around in it anyway.

It does have shockingly (some might say suspiciously) low miles though. That hood and hatch make me think something's amiss but the invoice and service records which the guy should have as the original owner.
