Hey, /o/, I've been looking at some cars to pick out as my first car and a couple I've been considering is the 240sx, 300zx, and 350z. What do you all think? Suggestions are welcome
>>
Budget? Why are you so fixated on nissan products
>>
>>17566929
I've got around 15k to drop on a car, and I didn't even notice I was fixated on Nissan cars
>>
>>17566908
I think the 300zx looks divine but might not be the best first car
>>
>>17566970
G37s for 15k seems like the best bet if you love nissan.

I always advise if its your first car to get a beater cash like a g35 or a mustang gt for under 5k but if you insit on spending so much on a loan then the g37S is probably the best you could get

Admittedly, I fucking love my z32, even with its issues, but it was not wise to buy as a first car. With $15k you've probably got enough cash to take care of any problems if you need, but it's a real pain in the ass to work on. I don't know much about buying 240s beyond them being drift taxed to shit and usually having large amounts of rust. A 2007+ 350z with ~100k miles is probably your best option.
>>
>>17567013
Can confirm. Mine put me through hell before I sold her and got something practical.

Only buy one if you have baby hands for the engine bay.
>>
>>17566908
If you don't mind spending lots on gas I'd go with a truck (not Ford) or a muscle car because bitches love trucks and muscle cars.
>>
>>17566908
3k civic. Now shut up.
>>
>>17566970
>15k on a first car
How old are you? Are you in college? If so, you should drop that down to about 3k and get a manual civic. If you've had an econobox already and have a job I'd put 5k down on a 20k car.
>>
>>17567090
>>17567092
>civic
Do not get one if you are in school because those are the gayest cars on the road. If you're working and just need a commuter car to get back and forth its not a big deal. Women think you're driving a sports car if you have a Nissan.
>>
240SX would be my choice of those listed.
>>
>>17566908
Newest car you can get is always gonna be better for your student life, you don't want shit to be in the shop and you stranded.

Get the 350z or the 370z if you can manage it, they are solid VQ motors, not many issues, and pretty bulletproof, by that I mean you can get more power out of them easily with a turbo. Lots and lots of aftermarket support and forums too for when you start to mod it because you're probably going to want to do that.

The 350z is a timeless piece of history, 370z is probably more reliable for your use case (commuter car).

You'd also better keep a few grand around for possible repairs that might arise in the first year.
>>
>>17567106
>buying a car based on what other people think of them
neck yourself
>>
>>17567106
No one fucking cares. A civic is good for anyone that needs or wants an econobox.
>>
>>17567120
The only people I see driving Civics are old men and teenagers who think they are driving sports cars.
>>
Since this is going to be your only car don't be stupid and get a project car like a 240sz xr 300zx. Especially with a 15k budget, those cars are for people with like 5k budgets. 350z is a little better reliably but again after a while you will probably get tired of the cramped interior and stiff ride, plus you wont be able to haul people or shit in the event you have to.

My .02 cents being a little older than you and on my 3rd car, buy something under 7k. If you really want a sports car just find a solid S197 Mustang GT under 10k. They are comfy, the ride isn't stiff and dat V8 plus they are reliable as fuck.

If you want a practical commuter that is still fast but gets good gas mileage, look into an older Focus ST like 2013-2014 if you really really want to get a loan for a first car.

But good cars under 5k if you want to pay cash:

350z
G35 coupes
330ci
MK5 GTI's
1998+ Camaro Z28
newedge mustang gt
8th gen Civic Si

etc.
>>
>>17566908
>first car
350 bro, obviously
>>
>>17567177
>Ford Focus
Why would you recommend Ford? Everyone I know who bought one has nothing but issues with it. Otherwise this is solid advice.
>>
It's funny how people on this Mongolian clay pottery forum think they need a sports coupe or hot hatch as their first car...jesus christ just get an economy car and treat yourself to something nice when you actually have money.
>>
>>17567277
You can get a sports coupe for a comparable price to a regular car. Only difference I can see is more for insurance and maybe more in gas depending on what you pick out.
Family sedans are intended for just that: families.
There is nothing wrong with a single person owning a coupe.
>>
>first car
if you're just learning how to drive or new to driving in general i wouldn't get a sports car
just get some cheap econobox, get better at driving, learn how to maintain it, and just appreciate it in general
starting from the bottom in terms of car quality vastly improved my appreciation for cars i think. i started with a 100hp shitbox and everything after that felt like a dream. you won't be a grumpy old man who rolls his eyes at 200hp or whatever
literally just get a 3k civic
>>
>>17567304
Okay riddle me this...try to find a decent sports coupe/sedan or hot hatch that is not 10+ years old, has less than 50K on the odometer, and is under $15... Insurance fucking sky rockets when first time drivers get anything that their provider even deems sporty. SUVs and econoboxes are great beginner cars so that you actually appreciate what you're driving. My first car was an 07 Ford Edge that my parents handed down to me with 130K on the clock...I loved the shit outta that thing for 5 years and I just recently got a '16 Focus SE.

Focus ST not the regular shitty focus. The 2.0 Ecoboost they put in it is pretty legit and solid from what I have heard.
>>
>>17567369
>>17567304
Shit meant $15K...made a typo
>>
are e90 any good?
found 2 2006 320d manual ones for 5700 euro
only problem is they are at around 200k km
If they have taken care of it should I do it as a first car? Will it break even if I do regular maintenance and take care of it? Is it unreliable or is it just expensive only when things do break? Keep in mind parts cost less where im from (Albania) but still I wouldnt want it to break every once in a while.
>>
>>17567369

lmao, why didnt you just get a used one for like 10k less if you like driving boring cars so much. Got played by the stealership

XD stay cucked.
>>
>>17567370
cool mazdaspeed 3
>>
>>17567410
It was used and I got it for $11K with only 17K on the clock...good try though you fucking bus rider
>>
>>17567369
I don't know about insuring a coupe because I've never done it but I have seen plenty of decently priced coupes on the market. I do know that new the price difference between a coupe base model and sedan base model is only $5 - $10 thousand. Source is my ass but it may be different where you live so I wouldnt know but in my personal experience I have talked to coupe drivers who said there is not much more in cost than owning a sedan.
>>
>>17567331
if given the choice, without the benefit of hindsight, would you follow your own advice?

i agree with you but i know i would have ignored you in OP's position.

>>
I own a z33 and I don't think you should buy any z as your first car. It's not the most hardcore or powerful sports car on the road but in suboptimal driving conditions a new driver will crash it.
>>
>>17570106
Why get an older 240sx? What's the point?

I just got this 240sx with 50k miles for $7k. It's pretty good on gas, it's rwd and it's manual so what more could you ask for? I personally wouldn't go for the 350z cuz no back seats and also I hear the 300sx is a bitch to maintain. But if you want decent power get a g35 (pic related) my friend's g35 has been pretty good and he got it for $15k

Is there anything I should know going in, besides the obvious like street signs and which driver's have the right of way on roads? I want to get this right the first time and i'm nervous about fucking it up.
>>
Do you need something reliable to and from work or something to mostly fuck around with? 15k is a lot of money for a first car, then again I guess you could be from somewhere where a car isn't needed at all and be much older then I expect you to be.

If you're young I would say buy a 500-2000 dollar beater off craigslist or a lot to use until it costs too much to maintain, (do small repairs though, it'll be nice knowing how to do brakes, change a tire etc).

If you can't be seen in a beater then put some of the huge chunk of change as a down payment on a slighlty used car, year or two old, nothing sporty. Build credit and pay it off early, then with great credit you can either trade that in for a sportier car later or buy a project car.
>>
3k civic with tasteful mods

15k?

look for a used Pontiac G8 GXP. You wont be disappointed.
>>
>>17566908
Get a special version of a v8 muscle car that is under 12k, under 100k miles, one owner, and as new as possible. For example a cobra or mach 1 Mustang, or SS Camaro. You might can find one with a few upgrades already, and have a few thousand left over if you have issues.
>>
>>17577143
Been eyeing that civic too. But I need something that'll take me into the mountains to go hiking at least.

What the fuck? Maybe for a salvage with 200k miles. People are still asking $40k for them.

Your first car will get damaged, just buy a fucking Camry and then get something nicer later on.

I think you need a Lada Priora Coupe!
Pro: cheap, fast and easy to repair, even if you high as fuck.
Contra: you need to get this car to your country and find a car parts shop nearly, plus you will need to find metric tools.
Think about it.

Civic indeed. In post secondary everyone in my class had a Civic when we went for field study.

What I did was withdraw money as fast as I could, grabbed the paperwork, and pushed the owner telling them I'm a serious buyer with cash in hand wanting to look at the car.

I didn't tell them what it was for it what is suspectedly wrong with the engine. The interior, exterior, and engine all need work.

Original offer was 800. These were people who didn't seem mechanically inclined and owned the car 15 years.

Luck, speed, and showing up with cash on the spot got me the 240sx
