Hey /o/
In the UK and looking to buy my first car. I can afford to buy a relatively new car (less than a year old) but most people seem to think this is a bad idea for a first car.
People keep saying that Ill end up getting small knocks and scratches etc because Im not used to driving solo yet, which I personally think is bullshit.
What would you say, buy a relatively nice car and keep it for a good few years or buy a shit run around to run ragged for a year and replace it
Buy shit and save desu, it will serve you better:
Peugeot 206
Ford Fiesta
Renault Clio
Vauxhall Vorsa
You know, just cheap shitboxes for the first two years

okay fellow britbong, questions:
What is your age?
Budget on car?
Budget for insurance?
Do you care for MPG?
Do you carry passengers/dog often?

I had a nearly-new clio as my first shitbox and didn't crash it but I do know some people who crashed their first cars. In any case you can get more for your money if you go for something older.

New is nice but the numbers don't like when it comes to you being the one to fuck it up. Usually from running a curb or an avoidable low speed crash. Or just parking in the wrong place. Or rolling it for funsies.
Get something mid-tier and save the rest for your next car.
drive something that yoofz arent crashing. I was getting quotes for insurance at 19 on a 1.1 clio/corsa/106 etc for £1800. Ended up getting a MK1 Mondeo 2.0 Si and insuring it for £900, then moved on to an E34 3 months later and insured that for £600 (all before i was 20) .
mind you (((insurance tax))) has gone up so everyones fucked, get a moped.

Up to 8000 max but less is better
1.2k Annual which is pretty easy because of age, most quotes have been around 800-1000 for your average first cars, Fiesta/Corsa etc
At £1.10 a litre, yes
Just occasionally taking gf to work, visiting friends in other cities so not often

Deffo not getting a brand new car, I was thinking something between a pre-reg car to 4-5 years old
