It's alright but I prefer this one.

I dont know anything about the wash wax combos. I know alot of washes have wax in them though. I like to apply a nice wet wax spray so idk if it would be overkill.
>>
Can someone tell me just how good teflon sealants or ceramic sealants are? I was at a recent car show and some local car autodetailer had setup a tent. They offered your typical detailing services but they also did a wax and sealant job that claimed it would stay on your car for a year. Now they wanted like $500 for the job, but it sounds like a bunch of bullshit.
>>
>>17543849

This shit isn't worth the pricetag, doesn't foam up very well and dries way too quickly. Gold Class car wash is much better.

Got this in an xmas kit with ultimate quik wax and detailer. Works really nice, suds up real good. The quick wax was good when i first applied it at the beginning of the month, but i think it had burned off because water doesn't bead like it used to initially.

Prefer CG shampoo over Meguiars, but of course there's not a big difference between decent shampoos anyway.
>>
>>17545284
I refuse to get on that wagon. I don't and cannot see any reason why adams polish/cg/ammo is any better than a "mid ranged" big name wash. FUCK maybe even some budget stuff can compete. I assume its much more concentrated than normal washes for the prices they ask...then again its not much more so maybe they are just asking more because "premium brand"
>>

I see. Well i don't plan on using this as a full on wax, ever since I used the kit I got into detailing videos and the like.

After some Youtubing, it sounds like its type of stronger sealant that you don't have to apply as often as you would wax. But I think $500 is BS when a kit goes for $90 http://a.co/c3phKEK

I mean in reality you could just buy a soap "booster" from them and add it to your cheap soap. I mean you would probably use -one cap since you already have soap in your bucket. Most car detailing shit is a novelty and literally for the most nit picky of owners. Nobody else really buys them since like 95 percent of people would just go to a car wash and have some guys just speed clean it or just not clean it at all. How much could they actually be raking in? Most people cant even treat 50k cars nice and I'm here babying a 21k crossover

Windows are a motherfucker to clean.

The best method to use, at least in my experience, is to spray half the window with your favorite glass cleaner when it is 80 degree or less outside, and the sun is setting. Use a light mist, and don't overspray. Then wipe up and down, going counterclockwise if needed for an extremely dirty window. Then grab a clean microfiber cloth(NOT the other side of the one you just used,) and wipe again until it is clear. Make sure to cover each area effectively and quickly, otherwise you will leave streaks and smudges.
>>
>>17548068
This is dumb. You want to use vinegar and brown paper towels, like the kind you find in restrooms. Those are a good place to get some. Also check under the sink in there too, usually you can steal everything you need to wash your car from a gas station bathroom.

That's because you eat a pizza with your bare hands and then clean the windows without washing your hands. Wash your hands first before you clean anything. Otherwise your burger hands spread filthy oils and bacteria on everything.

Wash your hands.

Sprayway ammonia-free window cleaner works well on interior GLASS but doesn't have antifogging properties. It does eat through greasy film though.

Sprayway says NOT to use it on tinted window films.

>Too bad I live in AZ where you need to wax your car every week. Fucking dust everywhere

Use a static dust brush. The brush is also easy to twirl clean if it gets overloaded with dust. No need to re-wash the car, or use detailer spray on the car. Dusting works except for when the dust clings to the sap balls.

While there are lots of suppliers, it's easy for me to type to tell you to go to walmart.com and search for static dust brush. The current one is blue coloured. Swish that lightly across the surface. To clean it, twirl the handle. Hold both palms in front of you verticle with a stick in between them. Now rub your palms back and forth and the stick in between the palms will spin (twirl). Apply that concept to any static dust brush no matter how inconveniently shaped the handle is for twirling. That's all you need to clean them. Minor oils and grime are removed ironically by the dust and dirt particles the dust picks up. The grime and oils stick to the dust and are flung off by the twirling. That indirectly cleans your static dust brush for you. When twirling, be downwind or away from the car or the dust will land on your car again.

I bought one back in the 1990's and it works great today. It only needed to be washed once in all that time. It is also good for dusting the instrument display, dashboard, and other hard surfaces of the interior.
>>

I see some detailers using non waffle weave or microfiber towels to dry off cars. Are they a meme or are they really the best way to dry off a car?
>>
>>17550414
You can use a cotton towel but make it damp first wont leave scratches but could leave lint. I'm not that annoying about the lint since it will just blow off
>>
I bought myself some cosmetics because the pressure washer will not take the baked-on grit and I dont want to use their brush or go to a mechanical brush car wash.

Deep crystal is the worst meguiar's product. It works fine but gold class is 10x better and wash and wax is 5x better. It's watered down and it doesn't lubricate (remove dirt without scratching) nearly as well as gold class.
>>
>>17547372
They have to take hours to days to wash and polish your car before applying it, dumbass. Stop speaking out your ass about shit you know nothing about.
>>
>>17551397

>It works fine
>Is worst product.

You do understand its literally the same formula right? The others ones are probably more concentrated with a fancy new color or scent. Wax is in nearly EVERY car wash available today.
For a budget car wash its amazing. You can always add a little more wash if needed. Don't listen to all the hype about washes.
Also lubricity doesn't mean shit if your not actually using a mitt to clean your car. Lubricity only is useful if your one of those guys who just goes straight from dry to scrubbing.ALWAYS soak your car before washing and get rid of problems then.

Whats the best object to actually scrub the body panels of my car? Sponge? Mitt? Memecrofiber? Also whats the best method for drying? Chamois? Links would be appreciated
>>
>>17551588
One of those sponges with a scrubby side for shit on your windows, and the microfiber fingers on the other side for softness and dirt trapping.

For drying honestly you need a shitload of microfiber towels that you're willing to throw out after 5-10 uses. Wash between each use with only other microfiber or synthetic fiber clothes. Don't buy the cheapest microfiber towels you can find, they're usually shitty and hold little water. The silicone scrapers help if you can guarantee there's absolutely zero dirt on it which is hard.

If possible, take paved roads to a freeway and go about 80mph for a couple minutes. Touch-free drying.
>>
>have cracked windshield

No good if you are going to wax your car after washing. That just coats the car with gritty dust.
>>
>>17551616
>The silicone scrapers help if you can guarantee there's absolutely zero dirt on it which is hard
The problem is that people don't know how to use them. Or they stupidly use them when there is a lot of dust in their area. Etcetera etcetera. They do work but due to all the dummies out there, it's just best to skip. The people who really do know how to use them will use them effectively without scratching.

People scratch their finish with microfiber all the time. But there's no call on getting rid of that. They just used their microfiber improperly.

Black is tough to deal with but is great if you know what to do.

The key with black cars is good sealant, wax, and controlled drying process.

I am not KentuckyBro, but he does bother to make his car shine with clarity due to the claying. I don't clay my car and it shines a lot, but not with the same clarity. If you run your hands across the shiny surface, my car feels rough. All that embedded dirt that sank into my clear coat breaks up the clarity of the shine sort of like a matte finish.

From a distance, my car shines just as much as KentuckyBro's car. The eye is fooled because it is primarily looking at the reflected light and clarity is not perceivable at a distance. But if you get close up, your face will look like it is a semi matte image while in KenB's car, it is clear like a mirror.

Claying is half the battle. Microscratches is where you get that last 10% of clarity and shine. Once they are corrected (at least on the amateur level), that's when you bring your car up to 95% perfect. That last 5 percent is where the pros make their money.

I get my cars really close, but I'm just not skilled enough to bring it all the way to 100%.

in any case, i used my foam gun twice and its been in a box ever since
>>
>>17561444
>>17561660
the foam gun is a pre-wash in most cases (less contaminants to scrub around) unless you keep you're car clean and layered with waxes which would leave you with a mint finish without touching it.
>>
>>17561501
me too, it smells good
>>
>>17561660
Having the foam stick on the car means it never dries out before you get to gently wiping it with the mitt. When done wiping the car, you can then rinse it off all at once. The main thing for me is avoiding the back and forth of one section at a time to prevent water spotting when suds dry out in any one section.

I've never used their concentrated soaps, since I use a pressure washer with a soap cannon, I buy a Meguiar's brand wash and wax because it costs me $6 to refill and it lasts me months. As far as a wheel cleaner, it would depend on what they look like and what they're made of. If they're anything but chrome, try a light degreaser and a microfiber towel and hand buff it. If it's chrome, I use this polish called brasso which leaves wheels looking so shiny its almost hilarious.

>>17560700
How abrasive they are. The window cleaner is a lot rougher than the paint because paint is a lot softer than glass. But unless you have several water marks that won't come off with a lubricated razor blade, I wouldn't recommend it. And for the paint, a standard clay bar would do the job well, just make sure to polish and wax after.

>>17560760
Yup, that's what I use. It's only ineffective when you want to clean super dirty, smudgy windshields from the inside. Does a great job otherwise and it lasts a long time

I do it twice a month, but I live in Phoenix where the sun destroys wax. It might be different if I had some way to keep it out of full sun. I think if you use a synthetic wax you can easily go maybe 3-4 times a year and be fine.
>Would you dare ever put your car through a legit machine wash?
When it comes to my shitbox, I take it to the carwash and have no worries. But on my weekend car, no one touches it except me. Machine washes will leave swirls or scratches guarantee. There just isn't a way to prevent it when you involve machines. Car washes are made to get your vehicle in and out as quickly as possible. Even some of the ol' fashion hand wash places can still easily fuck your cars paint up.

If you don't want to wax, you go always go the sealant route.
Some sealants can easily last a full year. They are a bit more labor intensive though. I personally don't like them because I actually enjoy detailing my cars. If you spend more time driving than detailing, going with a sealant might be better.

>Why the fuck are you guys so obsessed with clay bars?
>A good sealant will not let contamination reach the bare paint
People use clay bars because not everything is a simple chemical. Contaminants include microscopic or very small debris that is smaller than a grain of sand. As people drive, these particles hit the surface of the clear coat. Almost all of it bounces off possibly taking off a molecule or two of wax as they leave. That's why your wax coat seems to disappear even though it never rained. It didn't evaporate but was abraded off by dust and dirt hitting the car as you drove.

Some of the particles hitting the car has sharp edges. If it hits just right, the sharp edge can spear its way into the surface and embed itself there. Washing the car doesn't always remove such particles firmly embeddded. So when you run your hand over the surface, you feel feel the tail end of that particle snag at your skin. When you run clay over the surface, the clay snags the particle and pulls it out.

>>17562484
>Would you dare ever put your car through a legit machine wash?
Any place with brushes is terrible. It has to be those fabric strips to have a chance. Also, machines vary greatly in their condition. Another is how stingy the operators are on the use of new water, prewash chemicals, and high flow rate of soapy foam that provides lubricity for the fabric strips. There's no way to safely say "yes, give it a try" without knowing what it is like in that area.

As a way for you to indirectly test your local car washes, consider the chrome finishes. When cars are new, you can see your face clearly in the chrome finish. Now, look at all the chrome finishes of cars belonging to people who use those commercial car washes. I bet their chrome still shines from a distance, but close up, if you try to see your face, it looks hazy, right? I've seen cars whose chrome was now a shiny matte finish instead of that mirror-like finish it had when new.

Yes I am mobile, and it's tough because 90% of people think a gas station drive through car wash is good enough. And those who actually take care of their cars think most "mobile" people are beaners with soap cannons, and they're not wrong. I do just about everything to do with auto detailing besides shampooing carpets and seats because hot water extractors are very expensive. I charge $30 for a wash, spray wax, wheel polish, tire shine, window cleaning, interior vacuum, and interior cleaning. I also do paint polishing, waxing, sealing, spot correction, paint transfer removal, tar removal, etc. I charge based on what is needed and the size of the vehicle, usually around $150-250 for a polish, wax, and sealant with a clay bar.

>where do you get your water?
More important is how he disposes of waste water. In my area, it may seem contradictory, but homeowners can wash their cars and have that soapy water run down the drain unless your HOA or apartment complex says no which is usually the the case due to the city giving the real estate company a discount when it created the parcel of homes. In return, the city sticks in a bunch of requirements such as no runoff, no herbicides and pesticides, etc.

Anyways, businesses have stricter regulations on waste water and runoff waste water than homeowners.

>>17573190
>do I need to take the wax off with dish soap first?
Remember not to use dish soaps that have residue agents designed to leave a film behind on washed surfaces. Your purpose is to strip the painted surface of wax and not to swap the wax for some other different substance.

Also avoid any dishwashing detergents that have bleaching action (a few rare ones do, it's a fading trend (pun intended)). Any kind of bleaching chemical is bad on colored car paint. You should also avoid any that say "OXY" since oxidizing agents can fade colors although less so than bleach.

I would highly recommend a 6MT swap over a 5MT.

It will greatly increase your fuel mileage on the highway... and you already have the automatic driveshaft you will need.

Just need rear diff and axles, and swap your outer CV joints onto the new axles.

>Wet wax vs plain ol solid wax? Ive always used solid but spray on wax looks easier.
The newer all synthetic waxes from both Meguiars Ultimate and Turtle Wax ICE come in three forms: paste (solid), liquid, and spray. I think that spray waxes are easiest to apply if you don't worry about it splashing on anything. But since I still have to spread spray wax around evenly, I might as well use liquid wax instead. Paste requires more firm rubbing and to me that means any grit that settles onto the car could scratch. Liquid is easy to spread without pressure, so that has been my choice for a long time.

I started out with paste wax in the previous century because I thought that solid meant it had more active ingredients. But thinking further, liquid has enough active ingredient density as well after spreading it around. After all, only a very thin amount of ingredient can stick on the car. All the rest is wiped off. So as long as the liquid is spread around evenly and thoroughly, the density on the painted surface will be the same as with paste wax after wiping everything off.

Spray wax is the shit man. Most of the let you throw it on while the car is wet to dry it and wax at the same time

I bought a Clay Bar kit, Meguiars Ultimate Polish, and the Caranaubarubaalaru Wax.

I didn't how shitty my car looked till I started detailing it.

First time ever properly cleaning a car.

I spent $125 on cleaning stuff... I think by the time I'm done it will look like a new paint job... I just did a sample area on that one door, in case I had a catastrophe and made it worse.

If you aren't bothered about it looking 100% perfect, just use a swirl filler and some wax.

Vancouver British Columbia has shops that import auto accessories from Japan. I don't remember if one shop I went to had Fusso Coat Soft99, but it had various japanese paste waxes on sale there. I only went because someone told me the little import shop in Aberdeen Centre shopping mall which sold the Japanese version of RainX Antifog that was a water-based spray for interior glass. It's easier to apply than original RainX Antifog which uses a hydrocarbon solvent.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Aberdeen_Centre

It's a nice clean mall with a lot of foot traffic and a popular food court upstairs. The big plus is the parking garage.

I wish I knew where all the ricer shops were in Richmond. Clearly, all these riced-up cars in Richmond must be getting their import stuff from somewhere. But I can't cross the written language barrier.

Driving around, I did find two chinese food stores that carried food items the USA's FDA had banned due to pollution (mercury, heavy metals, carcinogenic factory chemicals, etc). Ha ha. USA stores still do not carry those items since China's Pearl River remains one of the most polluted waterways. The canned fried dace is one example of banned food as much of it comes from fish farms located on the Pearl River and other heavily polluted rivers.

So the neighborhood association but a temporary ban on water use for cars.

My options now are waterless washes or a nearby self-serve car wash. I have half a mind to do the former, I have a feeling ill end up having to pay twice to rinse, hand wash, then rinse again. Any recommendations on brands?
>>
>>17589478
You only need two buckets of water to wash your car. If some nosy faggot rulecuck neighbor sees you and asks about the water, say you bought a couple gallon jugs from the store, and then promptly tell him to fuck off.

>So the neighborhood association but a temporary ban on water use for cars.
Sorry to hear the drought is catching up to you. The city told my HOA to tell others to conserve water but didn't issue a ban.

Be very specific when you quote laws. You mean to say the HOA said there was a ban on tap water use? Or did they specifically say ANY water use? If it is just tap water, you can buy gallons of water at the supermarket and use that to wash the car. If you are careful and use a proper pump sprayer that also uses FORCEFULNESS of the spray and not just volume to move the soap or grit off.

Or you can cheat by saving the one gallon plastic jugs. Fill with tap water and use them while ostentatiously displaying the empty jugs next to the car. If anyone looks at you, pick up the empty jug and point to it ostentatiously as a sign that you didn't use any tap water. To "sell" the idea, also have one genuine unopened full jug out there to indirectly show you didn't just refill empty jugs.

However, an HOA does have a lot of non common sense power. They can actually rule for or against "ideas" (you must celebrate christmas) and not just "concrete solid situational existences" (you must not throw trash on the ground). If the HOA ruled that there can be no washing of cars on association property, you can still use detailer spray (waterless wash).

Before using detailer spray, use a static dust brush to remove pollen and loose dust. If you have an atomizer misting spray, some water sprayed at a distance misted on the car will remove the static electricity from one pass of the dust brush. The water dries almost instantly and you can brush again to remove the final remainder. You can then spray detailer after removing the loose dust and pollen. I use turtle wax ice detailer spray. Synthetic wax works well in a water ban environment.

>Why are Chemical Guys shit so popular
They do marketing to forums and they have a catchy name that sounds technically advanced. But in reality, they have a huge premium markup on their products. They also like to sell to the elitist snob crowd. For example, they have a paste wax for $1200. The paste wax can is so fancy that it even has a fancy expensively-made box for that tin of wax.
>>
>>17579929
Can that chinese stuff be pure though?
>>

>Don't know about US prices but I'd assume its probably even cheaper.
99% percent isopropyl alcohol at my local USA store is $1.79 for 16 fluid ounces. So your 5 liters of 99% isopropyl alcohol cost an equivalent of $15.6 usa dollars which is roughly 9.2 cents per ounce. The usa supermarket price is roughly 11.2 cents per ounce but has no ebay shipping cost and comes in individually sealed 16oz plastic bottles. The other advantage is that the supermarket alcohol is from a name brand and thus the 99% rating is probably accurate and the alcohol probably doesn't have other impurities in it outside of water or denaturing agent.

Get a rubber mat to put over it. They're easier to keep clean than carpet anyways.

>I honestly thought you were joking until i looked at their site and saw the fucking $2500 box.
There have been past pictures of their location and the shelving where various types of fluorescent coloured microfiber cloths were marked for retail sale. Some of them looked just like the same ones you get at Sam's Club or Costco bulk packages. But they were sold at $3.50 each instead of the 36 towels for $14 at Sam's Club. That's a 9X markup over retail price which is well beyond a 9X markup over wholesale price.
>>

>>

I like tires that look new but do not shine a lot like they were oiled up. The closest thing I could find to do that was that meguiars endurance gel. Put it on and then sort of dab it off. It doesn't have endurance that way, but the tires do look black again. It does shine but not as much.
