Merc has the most fun options but is also the least reliable.
>>
>>17542750
From Germany in General:
Too easy: Porsche, by a good margin.

If Luxury:
Merc, Audi and BMW are just wannabes. The S-class blows away anything by the other two.

Especially Audi, they're just VWs with a different badge. The German equivalent of Lincoln.
>>
>>17542847
Which is too bead because pre90s Merc was known for their apocalypse proof built quality. Just look at all the 70s and 80's era Mercs that are still running in Africa.

as for BMW/Benz/Audi:
I've owned all of them (my last car was a W211 and I work at a Merc dealership) and even though BMW interior designs may be lagging behind the sound insulation and ergonomics are still better than Merc or Audi in most cases.
BMW handling is superior to Audi and Benz but it compromises comfort a bit so if you are an old person a Mercedes would be best for you.
tldr If you care about driving pleasure get a BMW

Mercs are good luxury and retain their image as luxury brand.
Bmws often driven by idiots but actually good cars, compromise on performance/luxury, but a good compromise. Like honda with fwd.
Audi is just trash for trash people. Rich people sometimes drive them.
But 90% of audi drivers drive cheap garbage and pretend they're hot shit. I mean its same with bimmer and kinda with merc but bimmerfags atleast take theirs to the track adn bimmers are good.

30% of audi drivers pay like 4k for an quattro or an RS or some shit and sit in parking lots blasting music because they get their shit pushed in everywhere and that's all they can do. Or they buy a newer and shinier one for same money and pretend they're richfags and make pathedic passes at girls.
60% of audi fags are literal white trailer trash as europs can be. Live in fucking squalor wear wife beaters every day and are overall shit human beings. They think they are enlightened gentlemen for driving their 400 eur audi shitbox around and show up to streetrace meets to do fwd burnouts and when it is time to change locations and everyone arrives at the racing area, all audis mysteriously dissapear.

tl;dr audis are dogshit

>>17548209
Yeah I'm a fanboy, loved bimmers since I was a little kid

What does that have to do with audi interiors being objectively worse? I'll grant that bimmers do in fact trade some comfort for speed and driving fun but I've never seen an audi interior that I thought was nicer than the interior of an equivalent class bimmer, can't say the same for merc though as they are on top of the interior game for most of their vehicles.
>>
>>17548209
Also the 3 series is entry level, pretty sure you can't get ventilated seats on an entry level audi yeah?

Also no one gives a shit about ventilated seats anyway, would you take that audi interior I posted over the bimmer interior I posted simply because of ventilated seats? I highly doubt that. One extremely niche feature doesn't make up for cheap materials and bland design my friend.

Lexus is the literal king of reliability so its hard to compare to them.

It kinda just boils down to if you respect Nissan or not - which is a meme to hate them on this board full of bus riders. People that actually grew up doing shit like 240sx engine swaps but went to college and got real jobs tend to get Infinitis. This should give you an idea of how rare that is.

But I personally always liked Nissan when it came to their engines. They get a bad rap but if you take care of them they are surprisingly reliable and work well enough for how cheap they are. But if you go Infiniti, get the coupe cause they do those stock V6 twin turbos for the lols. It's not like you'll be redlining 0-60 at every stoplight - people in Mustangs and entry level BMWs won't even realize what you're driving because it blends into traffic like an octopus.

Avoid the SUV stuff of course.

I only have experience with the vq35de and it was good enough for sliding around parking lots and mild street drifting. i never did anything bigger than a safe/wide exit ramp so its not like I was tracking them but I did daily them.

however, i have had a stock RB25 before and I just kept the boost as low as it would go and it never had a single problem. When it comes to turbos a lot of the issues you see and hearsay stems from people that will do stuff like shut the car off immediately after driving and wonder why they're having to spend thousands at the shop every year before finally giving up and buying something else

related to this, fwiw my first turbo was a SR20 and it didn't last long because I was in my early 20s trying to get into drifting and engine swaps at the same time

I don't get why people do this, can you enlighten me. I understand if youre putting it up for sale on CL or something and only people in your are seeing it but why do you car in you're going to post it on some obscure japanese cartoon website. There is no record of other posts if somehow they found out who you are but If you google your plate number nothing comes up and thats the extent of anything people here got.

so yeah explain why this is a bad thing?

Gonna interject in this offtopic discussion: if you're considering the newer Q series and care about road feel/handling response, then know that the new Qs have notoriously "disconnected" feeling drive-by-wire electric steering.

Can't say I have personal experience, but read/watch reviews. Can say that I own a G37 and LOVE the hydraulic steering found in the Gs and Zs pre-2014 (still in Zs) and that it is among the best modern steering racks as far as road feel and sporty precision. Reliability is never a straight answer, but Infiniti/Nissan definitely aren't at the bottom of any reliability lists. I take care of my shit and my shit runs perfectly.
>>
>>17542847
You havent really used any of these did you?
Listen bmw is unreliable af,my dad bought a 740 LI 2012 last year,2 months after he bought it the radiator was leaking.
And audi has pretty terrible reliability
In terms of engine build quality mercedes comes on top of these 3

I was looking at a G37 as an alternative if the Q50 didn't feel great. They're also a bit cheaper, which is nice.
How's the ride on yours? I heard that G37s are notably stiff or rough riding, which I don't really want for a daily.

Yea I've noticed some demographic swings for certain luxury brands as well. Mercedes used older models seem to be coveted in the spic market. That market also seems to love the Nissan's especially Altimas. It's uncanny.

Also does anyone else think many of the newer designs are dogshit? Lexus and Toyota in general looks fucking awful. All their new stuff looks atrocious. Honda has had a similar problem. Looking at the Acura lines like TSX and TL and some other base Honda brands the designs have just been god awful. Mercedes 2010ish+ looks fine.

A 350 or 370 is probably out of the question for me, since I want some rear seats.

How are Nissan/Infiniti's AWD? I'm up innamountains and I was leaning towards an AWD to deal with the shitty weather and road conditions. It's the same reason I was factoring in the suspension. Roadwork here is pants on head retarded and a lot of the streets are in questionable condition.

Caddies of the era are amazing vehicles, but Pierce-Arrows were second only to duesenberg. It's a very different driving experience, for damned sure, but it's not unpleasant. The ridiiculous overbuilding of everything on the car is breath-taking, too. Case in point, that's original paint. Back in the day, it was $10 (1930's bux) a gallon. PA used about 10 gallons of the shit. Buffed right back to its original luster. The straight 8 is essentially a boat anchor by modern standards, but it's buttery smooth and the car can do 70 on the freeway all day, thanks to the overdrive. Interesting fact: You don't need to use the clutch to shift.

Damn, I guess I should really consider selling soon then. How much would I get for it if everything is in good condition. The A/C intake fan doesn't spin consistently at a stop, that's the only thing.

Mercs definetly.
Im a BMW fan boy, but I have to admit my defeat when it comes to German cars in general. Mercs just never stop working, pretty much like and old Volvo.

My nigga, I'm totally in love with I6 sounds

V8's are cool because they have the stereotypical "aggressive car" sound but at times they can be utterly cacophonous

Isn't the biggest thing with most German cars just preventative maintenance? My dad has a 2001 ML 500 and it still goes like new with 268,000km on the clock. Compression test done about 12,000km ago showed the engine was still holding up like new basically. Only major issue has been where power steering belt snapped but that wasn't too expensive a fix, otherwise just regular oil change/brake pads etc. has been all that's been necessary over the years. Also god damn do they know how to make a nice sounding engine, even though its single exhaust.

Skoda. Hear me out before screaming "BAIT". Skoda belong fo VW and pretty much everything in a Skoda is standard VW parts but they don't cost nearly as much.
For exemple, the shittiest Golf cost 20K€ (and it's a Golf, so everybody thinks you're a gipsy or an arab), meanwhile the cedan Octavia with a 116hp engine is at 20.5K€. So you get a pretty comfy car that is relatively dependable and won't cost 5K to change a spark plug.
Granted, Skoda aren't fun cars but for a daily car to go to work or even on vacation with the family they are nice for the price tag.

Mercedes and Porsche are typically very reliable. They're engineered to survive high mileage lives on high load. They can have design fuckups as they're not perfect like their fanboys like to pretend they are but they're also not unreliable shit heaps like their detractors like to pretend. I have a 198,000 mile (about 300,000km) 1999 C280. I bought it at 90,000 miles right out of high school and abused it with shitty teenage driving and maintenance neglect. I haven't had a few problems but not anything horrific.

At 121,000 I had an obnoxious squeaking wheel mount; dealership I bought it from used fixed it for free
At 153,000 headliner started sagging, haven't bothered to replace it
At 167,000 I started having weird electrical problems where the blinkers, headlights, and windows would sporadically stop working and alarms would go off upon opening. Determined it was due to a leaking seal in the rear drivers side window seal, causing water to get onto a locking system terminal within the door. Dealership wanted $1,000 to fix it, indie shops wanted $400, fixed it for $30 in 2 hours.
At 169,000 replaced a water pump for preventative maintenance for $300
At 171,000 I had a fuel pump die on me. Thought it was a manufacturer defect, later found out the place I got gas from was cutting the fuel with tap water. Police used it to refuel their new Explorers and got clogged injectors and dead pumps. Tested gas samples and found sediment and water in it. Replacement was $300.
At 198,000 currently have a minor oil leak from valve gasket grommets. Loaned it to my mother while I was up north for a few months, during which she let the oil get to empty then overfilled it till it overflowed. Going to fix it at home for $190. Additionally I have an annoying squeak coming from front right suspension. Sounds like parts rubbing. Going to try to re-lube it for about, $25. May need new spring and shock for $360

G37 ride is decent. A little stiff since it's based of Z platform. Not just "sport stiff" but has a bit of "up-down" motion on bumpy roads. Soaks up bigger stuff better and overall good momentum. 7/10 sacrifices soft luxury, but good sportiness.

>>17555871
People generally shit on X AWD models for adding weight, but not for any other good reason afaik. Its a similar AWD system as the GTR (RWD priority, sends to front as needed) so it's probably pretty good.
>>
are e90 any good?
found 2 2006 320d manual ones for 5700 euro
only problem is they are at around 200k km
If they have taken care of it should I do it? Will it break even if I do regular maintenance? Is it that unreliable or is it just expensive only when things do break?
