So I've been looking at cars for a while now, and I found a great one on craigslist but the guy is being kind of sketchy and I was wondering what you guys thought. Anyway, I text the guy to set something up and we're supposed to meet Saturday, he accepts cash or checks. Saturday morning I ask him for his name so I can get the check filled out, and he last minute says cash only. I talk to him a bit, and he says a check is alright as long as we meet on a weekday when the banks are open. So basically he won't sell me the car unless he gets the money the day of. Is this something to be worried about /o/? I've talked to a couple people and they say it's pretty obvious that something must be wrong with the car and that he hopes to just pocket the cash day of, while I get screwed when I find something wrong with the car. I must say, it's very suspicious that he won't take a check over the weekend. Again, what do you guys think? Is it a scam?

Thanks anon, I'll keep that in mind, I really wanted to get some other opinions on this.

Wtf no this is not sketchy. You would not be driving off with my car until i cash that check at YOUR bank. Expect that to be the scenario.

Found your problem
But seriously, the fact that he wants his cash up front isn't really that crazy considering it's a private sale. Throwing out bad checks and trying to run away with the car was at one point a pretty common scam.
If you really want to test the water, tell him you wanna take it to a shop and pay for an inspection/have a mechanic come out and look at it before you hand over the money. See what his reaction is to that
