**BEEP BEEP**
HERE COMES THE SAFESPACE WAGON

I PAYED 15K FOR 210,000 ON ENGINE JUST SO I CAN ALWAYS FEEL ASSURED WITH JAPANESE RELIABILITY
EVEN THOUGH PARTS ARE EXPENSIVE AS ALL HELL AND WILL SURELY NEED TO OVERPAY FOR THESE TOO BUT ITS OK BECAUSE I AM FEELING SAFE WITH MY JAPANESE PURCHASE
WHICH IS PURE RELIABILITY
I REALLY KNOW MUCH ABOUT MECHANICAL STUFF WHICH IS WHY I MADE THIS INFORMED DECISION AND DECIDED **NOT** TO GO AMERICAN, BECAUSE THEY SCARE ME EVEN THOUGH I REALLY KNOW A LOT ABOUT MECHANICAL STUFF.
BUYING JAPANESE DOES NOT CONTRADICT MY MECHANICAL KNOWLEDGE. IT REALLY DOESN'T!!!!

need that OBD2 crutch sonny
no fucking way in hell you are going to keep that thing running without a computer. this goes with any early 90s vehicle
you should have really opted for a 96,
same truck, only the computer actually tells you whats wrong, instead of you having to pull the engine just to diagnose in some cases

i agree obdii is nice though. i have an ultragauge plugged into my truck. super helpeful
>>
>>17541226

Can you be any more of a cuck?

OBD1 throws codes when it can't talk to its sensors but for minor shit it will run a hair rough but that is easy enough to diagnose if you know anything about vehicles.

It is well known that pre 96 trackers sidekicks and vitaras are easier to keep going than the problematic OBD2 vehicles.
>>

Do people never walk their fording before hand?
>>
>>17541252

yeah no
im able to use forscan on my 99 EB

i have the ability to launch a key-on engine-on self tests and all the good stuff
its completely different than OBD1
>>
>>17541252

do you even know what forscan is?
its pretty damn nifty, no other brand of vehicle has this type of tool available

and there is also VXDIAG
might just splurge 90$ on it some day it comes with registered IDS...

total world of difference
you are stuck in the fucking dark ages on OBD1
strange that i have to really sit here and explain this to you though,
like you really don't know

they have a sfa, and an incredibly reliable powertrain but they are old as fuck at this point. i love everything about them but expect it to need a bunch of work if you pick one up

if you go check one out make sure you thoroughly check for rust. most are completely cancered out at this point
>>

>What's part availability like for an FJ55V?
you either fab your own or you know people. Most of those cruiserpart stores based out of Aus / the US make it to OEM standard or make it for you with warranty. This is for every FJ model. If they don't have it, they can probably fab it for a bit more than FJ40,60,70,80 pricing.

Any of y'all with auxiliary lights know a good place to find electrical parts? Been trying to piece together a harness for a 400W setup and it's turning out be a wild good chase since one store will have a 35A relay, but they won't have switches bigger than 20A that aren't autistically huge.

The entire point of a relay is that you do not run the full current through the switch. Run whatever switch you want to power two relays, each driving two lights.

I found the TCM I need to keep my 97 80e with the DB2. That's the hard part. As far as getting gauges and such to work I'd imagine that should be fairly simple if I can find a DS4 to DB2 guide, but I have the feeling they interchange much easier across the diesels than they do the gas trucks.

Just run the activation power from something like your DRL's, through the switch and then to the relay

Then you can turn the light on and off at any time, and it can also only be turned on when you have the DRL on

If you want to have it usable at all times; run the grounding for the relay through the switch, not the power/positive

The master plan is to buy one more NV house, create a real estate LLC and then "rent" one of the houses back to myself and put a couple of cars into the LLC as "company cars."

hey guys, looking to into 4x4, and I've determined that a squarebody chevy best fits my needs for right now. unfortunately, I'm unsure about the stock 10 bolt axles.
some things I've read say they're alright as long as you put a lunchbox locker in the rear, deal with an open front, and don't put over 35s on them.
other shit says to immediately drop them out in favor of a 14 bolt FF and a D44. apparently, this is supposed to be a drop-in swap, but I highly doubt that.

Shenanigans like this aren't common but then again there not rare either.
A friend here in Cali has an LLC in Montana & has Montana plates on his vehicles. All are "owned " by the company.
Don't get me started . . . smog is the least of the problems. Property taxes are INSANE!
Yeah, a piece of property will work too, but you need to show some "active" business intent.
I already own one house and 4 residential lots.
I'm going to acquire some more lots and another house. Combine them into an LLC, rent out one house and that should be enough to pay for the taxes, insurance, maintenance, etc., on the rest.
If the rental works out not to be too much of a hassle; I would then consider developing some of the other lots.
One of the main goals is to shield retirement income from Cali taxes by establishing NV residency.

I just need something that'll fire up and go, that's not gonna kill my bank account if something blows up or dies (like a 90s bronco). I'm doing framing right now so I need something I can throw shit in, and get to the site since it's kinda in the sticks.
plus, I wanna be able to do some light trail riding every now and then. the truck will primarily be a DD, but I'm used to big landwhales that feel like shit, so it doesn't have to feel like F1.
further, I'm looking for something ideally pre-83 so I don't have to pass inspection.

Anon here who was going to be trading his DRZ for a J100 Land Cruiser. Absolute waste of my fucking time. It was a 3 way trade, so it was already a pain in the ass to get everything worked out. The only reason I even decided to take up the trade was because the Land Cruiser is worth double what my DRZ is.

Trailered the bike 4 hours across 2 states, and when I get to the meeting place, he said he was a few exits away, but he was stuck in traffic. Then he texts me like a half hour later and says he was 1 exit away and his friends truck they were bringing to throw the bike in overheated. Ended up sitting there for about another half hour when he finally texts me and says the radiator burst on the truck and they limped it to a shop right off the exit. He asks me if I'll meet him at the shop to do the trade, so I tell him to text me the address. He texts me the street address and zip code. I type it in on my phone, and it pops up saying he's in Brooklyn, which was an hour from where I was at. He keeps trying to convince me to drive out to that shop to make the trade, but I pretty much told him to fuck off. There was still more to the story that would've involved me driving even further out of my way after making the trade, but I don't feel like typing it all up. All in all, a little over 9 hours of my life wasted.

As long as the timing chain rattle isn't indicative of greater problems, it's just normal engine noise, however with the rust if you live north of Texas it's surprising it made it this far, past 20 years the amount of rust on a car is more a matter of where it was used than who made it.

>>17552110
Unless your idea of "Light trail riding" differs from mine you'll be fine with stock axles. If you're doing crazy stuff and crawling ricks I may advise otherwise.

What kind of inspection are you looking to avoid, and do you live in the rust belt? It can be harder to keep up on a pre-83 because parts are harder to find, making it easier in the long run to go with something newer. But then again square bodies are square bodies...

And they aren't wrong.
But pre-1990s technology is for the birds and those motors were meant for a era of driving when the speed limit was 55 mph. And for the price and time you could spent trying to polish a turn, for the money you will just slap your forehead and say "duh, could have had a v8"
I just wish Toyota supported the builder community more, to swap Toyota uz engine would require a completely custom wiring harness versus an ls motor. A modern Toyota uz engine will outlast a ls motor by hundreds of thousands of miles.

This.

I literally don't get why this guy makes a whole 250 reply thread and respond to each one of the posts about that. We all shit on Jeeps, Suburbans, Toyotas, and Ford/Chev but no one is as butt blasted as this one random Yoda hater who gets incredibly salty that Americans are buying Japanese.

I own two Fords for towing and a Jeep and am considering buying a Tacoma as a small truck for driving around just to take pictures of it and post it on /ORG/ regularly now.

It's very odd for a company that prides innovation over marketability (main competitor Honda) to not have the builder support unless you know the fab. UZ meme in my Land Cruiser was going to be my first bet but I guess not after the ridiculous mating parts and time.

I just bought an OM617 to put in as a result since there are at least plates for it and fits in with ease.

Everything is great. How do you run compression tests on this thing? I'm thinking of just not doing it and putting it in my FJ80 and seeing how much torque I get at 2000RPM in first gear. The transmission mating doesn't seem to have an issue.

I also found a 300D out of a G-Wagon from 1981 with those aluminium catch pans. I'm going to put it in the W123 and maybe drive it around on weekends. It's missing the harmonic balance and the spedometer is broken. I'll have to tinker around with that, though but it should be a simple mate job.

I'll also get something like 45 MPG out of this 30 year old vehicle.

Perfectly fine.

>If I ever played the brand loyalty game to anyone, it's chevy.
Really don't care.

>But I don't, I just don't shove my head up my ass about it, like you do.
How am I the one shoving my head up my ass? I'm not the one telling someone that an already old and worn out drivetrain is barely broken in just because it's got a Toyota badge on it. I'm not the one claiming that an already old and worn out drivetrain will last another 300k miles without a rebuild just because it has a Toyota badge on it.
I'm all for forgetting the badge completely and looking at what you're buying in an objective matter. I'm making no promises of badge based god-tier reliability to anyone. If I did make a promise of such reliability, it would probably be towards the LS long before the UZ and that's not because of GM vs Toyota, it's because the LS is a better platform.

If I were a complete fucking retard that couldn't trust myself to judge which is better, I would go with Toyota because they're typically babied compared to GM trucks but that doesn't make anything about the vehicle itself better and certainly doesn't guarantee the 600k+ miles without a rebuild that you delusional fanboys seem to think is minimum for anything with a Toyota badge.

>>17562374
>I literally don't get why this guy makes a whole 250 reply thread
I didn't make the thread.

>who gets incredibly salty that Americans are buying Japanese.
Don't care if you buy Japanese. It doesn't bother me. What does bother me is the inaccurate reputation fanboys push and push to justify paying too much for something.

It's fine if you like it, it's fine if you buy it. But don't lie about your reasoning for either one to appear to be more practical. I love Defenders but I'm not going to come in here and preach about them going to 2 million miles between rebuilds to justify that love or to convince anyone else to love them.

Holy kek yeah buy it. Those I-4 Rangies go for like $3k here. How is the frame and the salt issue from the sea / road salt?

I-4 Lima engines are great, too. Just don't expect it to go too far offroad. You'll get otay gas mileage and be able to haul just enough to make it work. Try for the extended cab for a bit more comfort.

>>17566565
It's a 1-FZ engine that destroys way too much gas for me to continue driving it around. This weekend will be the last weekend I will drive this thing with the gas chugger.

Gearing is surprisingly not changed considering the OM617 is pretty high revving. Friend did it on a 4runner and besides the hood space, he didn't run into any issues - especially with gearing.

I can't wait to register this 240D and toss in the G-Wagon motor, though. It's gonna be fun to cruise around the countryside in one of these Pinochet/ Chavez-mobiles.
Next stop: armour plating and mouting an MG-42 to the sunroof.

I'm sorry if my point isn't as opposite yours as you would like for it to be.

We spent most our time on the one front leaf bolt on both leafs. The sleeves had completely seized ofcourse

First came out with heat and a special press, but the other required us to first cut off the leaf and its parts with a plasma cutter, then heat, grind and beat the sleeve until it released

So much trouble could be saved if only manufacturers greased stuff before inserting

So, the lift kit has done a few things

Ride is better
Tires rub a bit more (on slight-turn and full turn)
A bit more road noise, probably from the polyurethane bushings
It actually flexes a lot a lot more easily

Anyone got similar effects? The tires rubbing aren't really all that weird, as the wheelwell is baaarely fitting the 31 inch tire, and the offset of 30 on the wheels I have is way too high. I am replacing the wheels with some -54 offset ones soon
