Depends on your definition of "fast" and "car". I don't know if two jet engines on wheels really count as a car, Technically it should be wheel driven. Top Fuel dragsters are the quickest accelerating cars and this thing still holds the land speed record for wheel driven vehicles.

the reason to use the salt flats is just that they are flat
and even that has problems as only a narrow section of the salt is both long enough wide enough and thick enough for the cars to use

advancement in roads and parts of middle east America being briddy flat
