problem is it automatically sets accel and decel to 75% and can make the steering too responsive and the back too loose. its really bad on high stock cater car like the carrera gt.
ive been opting to leave it off recently after it caused trouble with two mustangs and the m4. it gets really bad on the 911s because those need low values on both or the back is going to came around with even the slightest loss of traction

archway meadows is a good technical circuit also but the corners can be cut so its not that great for racing

I use 50:50 on everything. Seems to be working out well. It's the default on the LaFerrari which is probably the easiest RWD car at that tier to manage.

Also I'm hosting a touge session tommorow at 6 PM EST anyone in? We found a way to disable traffic in private lobbies. Just shoot me a message GT: Deskyx 98

are ultrawides good for racing sims?

I'm thinking about switching from two displays (with a little offset so i don't have case bar on the middle) to one 21:9, but ultrawide will give me over 20% less of vertical display field than previous configuration did. On the other hand i'd have no black bar in the middle, same display specifications, colors, list goes on. I'd love to hear some encouragement from someone who has 21:9.

At least the 959 unlock event comes back in two weeks.
Also holy shit Hot Wheels is way cooler than I thought it would be.
Was fun to jump in and go back to dropping stuff on the auction block. Made 5+ million in an hour just getting rid of random cars I don't use.

Minimal lag and high refresh rate are more important, but yeah an ultrawide center screen is gud - the top and bottom edges of the screen are only showing roof and dash anyway.

I got an ultrawide just recently (21:9 LG Ultrawide at 3440*1440), and personally I am loving it, and not only for racing games.

I did not however have a dual screen setup before, basically because I didn't want the black border, and I didn't want the weird change in angle you see between two screens often.

I would completely recommend changing to it, games look great, and while you may have to downgrade vertical FOV a bit, I don't see how that is an issue in racing games wheer right/left is all you need anyway

>>
>>17544077
You literally never got all the cars at the start, retard, they were locked behind a money barrier. The level system is retarded, but that's not the point because money still blocked you from getting expensive vehicles without grinding out the ass.

Are there any more modern racing games that are like NFSU2?
I was playing The Crew, but I've never felt like I was in such an empty world before.
>>
>>17544866
Not really if you want the customization

For some reason the open world racer with customization was more or less killed off by devs, and when attempts are made at it (such as the newest Need for Speed), they're filled with gimmicks that make them unplayable
>>
>>17544873
Damn.
I loved NFSU2, the scene was great.
The underground racing, the magazine ads, the customization.
Fuck I miss that era. Most Wanted was cool, but that was really like the end of an era.
>>
>>17544883
The new NFS really tried to be an Underground 3, but the cringy ass cutscenes and "story" made the game uncomfortable, and adding truck-esque handling to even your most finely tuned cars just makes it absolutely pointless

Its good for customizing cars though if you're into that, but you'll have to play the cringy story and swear a lot at the physics - it's open world and online free roam, and as usual with EA games you can try it for some hours before buying

none of them were unironic threads. From the few I remember, one was from a butthurt mod and another on spite of something, so they were just filled with memes while threads on /o/ were going along too.

The only way to see if this actually works is when the /o/ mods decide that ovg does not belong here, and they actively delete the threads. Then we would see what would really happen.
>>
I still contend that creating an xbox live club will make it really easy to set up fh3 events because you can easily see who is online and if its open people don't need to drop their gamertag here

So the basic history of /ovg/...

Back in early 2010, /o/ had several vidya generals. The big three as I remember were Forza, followed by Gran Turismo, and then a "miscellaneous race sim"/shitposting general.

All of them had hosted series/championships/race nights. The Forza threads were by far the most popular and organized, led by a guy named PKGTR (real name was Peter, worked at a Porsche dealership). GT5 threads died because the game wasn't very good. The race sim shitposting thread guys found a way to crack LFS and hosted a pirated server for the PC guys. IIRC I was using a 360 controller back then so my times were pretty shit.

The popularity of LFS on /o/ died by late summer because lets be real, there's like no content even in the paid version so people got bored.

Forza threads ran strong until late 2012. Basically what happened is that the hardcore Forza guys all planned to migrate to Forza Horizon (legit held a proper send-off event), under the belief that Horizon would be a lot more robust in terms of online features than what was actually included, and able to support competitive online racing (yes, I shit you not, this is what people believed).

So Horizon comes out, it's a casual-fest with 8-car online lobbies and shit netcode, fucking everyone's plans on day one. I'd say within a week, half the Forza guys - including "admins" of the Forza series, fucked off, replaced with wanderers from /v/.

With no guidance from PKGTR, we just sort of shitposted our way into a racing vidya general. The technical founder is myself, but I didn't come up with the name /ovg/.
>>
>>17546938
So where did SJ come into all of this or are you trying to revise history?

>>17546970
I honestly don't remember SJ appearing until sometime in spring 2014 when we were all on Race 07 for a bit. We'd had the mumble channel for a bit and some guy who sounded like a cliche neckbeard showed up and kept asking us to play tabletop simulator with him. When we transitioned to AC (they just introduced online) he complained that his PC couldn't run it and "all the trees are white."

Then it slowly came out he was on a PC from 2006.

>>
>>17547093
who is this noone and why does he keep appearing in my /ovg/
>>
>>17547081
Real talk, he should be using it as something to aspire to.

Like SJ, I too struggled with mental health - maybe not to the same extent as him, and at a younger age, but still. Kicked out of school, lost a bunch of friends, same general backstory. Was a really shitty time and made an ass of myself in front of a lot of people.

The main difference is that I was open to help, and actually put in the effort to recovering, NOT blaming 100% of my problems on an obscure sim racing internet community. And when I felt overwhelmed, I asked for more help.

Regained all of the friends I'd lost. Graduated high school. Held down a few steady jobs. Put my talents to use and started a somewhat popular website. Got into a proper adult hobby that's expensive as shit but builds self-confidence. Now I have my dream job and get to do what I'd wanted to do with my life since I was six years old.

Conceited as fuck? Well yeah, but it certainly beats the alternative.

>>17550586
Some of them gets their UI stretched but the game itself is rendering correctly. The menus on some games are stretched, but the UI in the gameplay is simply moved further out to the sides and not stretched

So it all depends a lot on the particular game, but I have seen absolutely no reason not to use an ultrawide so far

Best part is you can run a game in 16:9 borderless window and have something else, NASCAR, F1, whatever running and visible on the side of the screen too
>>
Just got my wheel.

Holy fucking christ I'm bad with this.
>>
just got my 21:9 display. It's cool, except i don't know how to set window snap properly yet. Minor setback, racing vidya works great with it.

Best intro besides GT4 and the original GT5 intro.

Nice. What games will you be playing?

Assetto, PCars, DIRT, Euro Truck 2

I just got it a few hours ago and holy shit I'm so bad.
I've never driven a car IRL before so needing to do the clutch / using an actual gear shifter (I got the TH8As) is so difficult.

I'll get the hang of it though!
>>
>>17539421
Screen real estate is by far more important than a couple milliseconds of lag. Trying to play with a small screen in front of the wheel, with that uglyass FoV...
>>
>>17550770
GT6 could have beaten it if it was interested in being a proper GT game and not a generic racing game.

RIP GT

>I've never driven a car IRL before

Top kek

but to be honest, driving in the street has nothing to do with driving in games.
>>
>>17550119

Brake and turn earlier

Don't give it any more than 20% throttle, especially if the dirt begins righ at the apex

Summer must leave
>>

t. never driven a car IRL
>>
>>17550513
That's a good progression
I guess after that we'd do Cup cars?
>>
>>17551142
Depends on the level of interest, but not unlikely
>>
how do you get faster on the burgerring?

i can't get times faster than 6:40 or so on GT3/GT2 cars

my new record after making a new setup is 6:37.667 in Nissan GT3 (previous was 6:39.212 in BMW M3 GT2) which is still shit because people do 6.20 in the same car and after that i got 6:42 and 6:43 again

I wish i knew what i'm doing wrong
>>
>>17551182
Start memorizing turns and thinking ahead, like taking a earlier apex in the corner that precedes the open throttle sector before the Carrousel.

I can't be bothered remembering the turn's names, but I know the layout and the corners that will come afterwards.

I'm on the default setup because using custom setups is cheating.

How the fuck do I use GT mode cars in Arcade mode in GT4?
>>
>>17549882
Better off getting pcars 2.
>>
>>17551428
If you're playing alone, you can't. Cars you buy in GT mode are unlocked in Arcade but tunes don't carry over.
If you're in split screen, check the 1 and 2 options at the top of the screen to load card 1 or 2's garages.

people who design public roads should rethink their solutions for the problem

It's like you hate your car.
>>
>>17551590
I've never driven a car either lad. It makes no sense monetarily at the moment for me and driving on these roads seems like more of a chore than anything.
>>
What's /ovg/'s opinion of project cars 2? Worth a pre-order?
>>
>>17551900
no
>>
>>17551900
Never preorder. I had to get a refund for my Dirt 4 purchase over the traction issues (they're still not fixed).
>>
>>17551900
Considering how PC1 was, not worth buying until you can get your hands on it and try it out on your rig. And since I clearly don't see a game getting a pre-release demo because it's 2017, then no pre-orders.
>>
>>17551900
Gee I am sure PC2 will deliver on every single promise made just like the first one :^)

Seriously though do not preorder that game, it might turn out to actually be good in which case by all means get it, but before it's out I'd highly doubt it'll be less of a shitshow than PC, just as I highly doubt the handling is gonna be much better
>>
>>17551900
Why would you pre-order anything, to begin with?
>>
>>17550347
Probably meant things like braking too late or other mistakes in trying to get an edge.
>>
>>17550004
>>17550090

This is just a meme from James to persuade people to buy PCARS2 instead.

it will probably be shit but i wish i had bought into the PC1 pyramid scheme and let the rabid SMS shills triple my investment

so just the usual then, who ruined who? Also is there a template for the r18 that not shit
>>

All Assetto Corsa official templates are horseshit, you'll just have to get used to them (or bribe RBDK with anime)
>>
>>17552346
SJ ruined everything

>>17551954
Honestly, it mostly stems from the idea that I have money now that I may not have in such abundance when the game comes out.
