Why do mechanics always overfill when it comes to fluids?

Because most of my customers are morons and go 3000 km over the sticker without checking the oil level. So yeah I'll risk some minor catalytic contamination over the long run to prevent undue engine wear.

Most 5qt jugs typically have a hair less than 5 quarts anyway. For example, nissan shitboxes with a 2.5 take 4.9 and a 5qt fills it right to the dot. Usually have to get a 1 quart for just a couple ounces out of it if it's something that takes 5 exactly.
