No. Lightly modified mk7 golfs out 300ft pounds to the wheels. More modified and they can put over 350 ft pounds to the wheels. With decent suspension geometry and electronic (fake ABS controlled diff) they drive amazingly well. If your lucky enough to have a real limited slip combined with the fake diff, they are pretty amazing.

I bought a hyundai this year because I wanted to try one. Also wanted a hatchback, so my choices were a veloster turbo or an elantra gt. Originally wanted a FiST but they were out of my price right at the time.

This VT was $10k and the GT was $12k. The Elantra felt less responsive, but faster overall. The VT was more responsive and felt tighter on turns. Went with the VT, am absolutely not regretting it. Love this car.
