I just saw the image thrown around a few weeks ago and I liked it... I don't have the original SVG, if there even was one.
I can fix the fucked border and anything else about the image if need be... And I guess I can vectorize it if that's really necessary, but... Do the files need to be vectorized for printing? I thought that just added unnecessary steps if you weren't going to be scaling the print?

I like the concept... I saw it in an /osg/ thread a few weeks back if I recall... So I assume the maker was on here. That's why I searched the pastebin for a finished version...
I would assume whoever made it took an existing (smaller) chibi Revy, cut it up, drew a thicc border on it, then vectorized it and scaled it up... And that the PNG here is an export of that file.
That would explain a lot of the weird artifacts in the lineart.
I think I could re-do it as a vector from scratch faster than I could find the author, unless they literally pop up on this thread and claim it.

Its a pros/cons thing. Screen prints are usually more durable though if cared for properly. For his project, a screenprint probably would've been a little better, but overall it doesn't seem like bad quality. LA Apparel makes good shirts and they're tagless with printed care instructions which is a nice touch, albeit the design looks like its a JC Penny brand targeted toward middle school boys. If you like it, I wouldn't worry about it. The price is fair.

DTG basically uses a large printer like your home printer, that prints directly on the shirt. Screen printing uses ink that is pushed through screens. DTG should last a year, but the design will likely start to fade. It depends on the machine they use and the shirt it it's printed on.

Yeah you can usually feel plastisol ink. But you can use waterbased / discharge inks, which actually dye the fabric of the shirt. They are not as opuaque as plastisol, but they don't sit on top of the shirt and are more comfortable.

I will keep you posted. I went ahead and ordered one anyways. I talked to him and he said he'd post his pictures here too once he gets his since he ordered his earlier. He said Printful does DTG pretty much exclusively, so they will be one of the better DTG prints and he realizes screen printing is better but he did not want to sink $500+ for one batch in case the shirts didn't sell. Also it lets him lower the pricing for us which is good for me!

Nice cat! Yeah screen printing would have bought the price down a lot but it also requires the large investment. I checked Printful's site and it shows the shirt he got costs like $17-$18 so it seems like he's making maybe $2 or $3 on each one. He's also mailing stickers out so that means he's barely making a dollar on the shirts, pretty neat of him to do it like that for us, but we'll see how the quality is.

I've worked with Printful before, you have to remember that the price for DTG includes the shipping price, if you use them for screen printing you have to buy your own mailing supplies, and you have to add the cost of shipping the item from where you are. On top of that, even if the item costs $11 per for screen printing, you have to add $1 for shipping from Printful to you, and then let's say $7 for shipping it out which includes the mailing supplies. That's around $19 for screen printing, and you have to do more of the back end work. Plus you're also risking around $600 if nothing sells, that's $600 *per size*, because you need to put different labels on each size. Screen printing is extremely costly, the $500 number people throw around is actually much more like $2000 or $3000 to get a decent set of sizes from Printful.

DTG is much better for people who are just starting out in apparel, and as long as the shirts are a good choice, aka LA Apparel or Bella Canvas or Anvil, then the shirts will last a year with very minimal wear.

Price wise, a DTG shirt should be $20 - $30, plus shipping, anything above that is too expensive. Stay away from Gildan at all costs, as their cotton is very rough.

Hoon chose a LA Apparel which is right behind Bella, Bella is softer and a little more stretchy, however it's also thinner, so LA will stand up against rougher use better. LA and Anvil are very similar. You will have no problems with either of these three. Also keep in mind that LA Apparel is the only one that is still Made in USA, which is always good for marketing and the US.

$2500, and this is only for 1 set of labels. If you need another label, for example a black label on a white shirt, the price increases as well. And sure, you could go with a smaller screen printer, but you'd be looking at a higher cost per shirt, no where near $9 or $10, more than likely around $15 once you're done with the cost of shipping, as smaller places cannot get the same shipping price Printful receives due to their order volume being much less.

In short, DTG is the preferred method if you're just beginning, because it requires no investment, and provides good enough quality for the price people charge. Screen printing is the preferred method once you have some sort of knowledge about your monthly orders, and you can assume the much higher startup costs associated with it.
