VW buses have insane hipster taxes on them. Expect to pay 30 grand for reasonably good condition. I don't know which of the American vans (Econoline, Chevy Van, A100) is the most produced and numerous of the era, but the most unusual period American van is the Chevy Greenbrier on a Corvair chassis with a rear-mounted, air cooled, underpowered flat-6 engine, much like the VW bus.

I live near a guy who has restored one of these, never had the time to stop and talk to him. Mostly just a thumbs up as we drive paste each other.
His is a sky blue and white one, chrome rails and bumpers.
