Some of these cigarette buttons are older than the people here
Pretty common Porsche problem. I've developed a habit of looking for trash in the radiator ducts on every one that I see.

Now I see why people rice these cars with Home Depot mesh grills
clean your radiator...show pic of A/C condenser.

Do you not see the radiator behind it?
best method of cleaning this? air compressor?

How is the 996? Is it as bad as people say? So man horror stories keeping me out from buying one.

You mean like "The IMS bearing will fail as soon as you take it above 3000rpm and completely grenade the engine"? Most of them are overblown.
>>17498574
Well, that and also the bore scoring, intermix, RMS, 2nd gear synchros, etc.
>>17498581
RMS is the only thing you'll really encounter regularly, and it's just cosmetic and can be fixed during a clutch job for like $20
>>17498581
Bore scoring, oil/coolant mixing and D-chunk cylinder wall failure are quite rare, 2nd gear synchros are only really an issue if the car's been treated rough, RMS is a relatively simple and cheap fix, as is the air/oil separator.
Most issues and their solutions have been thoroughly documented at this point, too.
A 996/986 really isn't much less reliable than any other car, they just require a bit more attention than a regular shitbox and obviously parts cost more.

Even everyone's favourite 3rg gen TLs have 2nd gear synchro issues and no one bitches about them
Cars are complex things, shit happens

What like 5 put of 70,000 examples sold? You could always LS swap them
>>17501422
More like 10-20%
>>17501579
10% at the very upper limit, and even then all of those bearings were replaced under warranty
