There is no such thing as "halal motor oil." Your friend may be confused because the halal concept extends to cooking oils and food-grade lubricants as well. Unless your friend wants to eat the contents of his engine bay, it wouldn't matter if his motor oil was halal or not in the first place.

Furthermore, I'm willing to bet you that his regular mechanic may be trying to trick him into paying more for a type of oil that doesn't exist. Ask him if that's the case. Otherwise, just change his oil.

One more thing: there's usually a mark on the container of the product that says "halal" in both Arabic and English.
