What can a newfag do to get into cars? I know the basics and they interest me reatly but I don't know where to start in getting to know car types, brands and models. Any advice or resources I could use?
Pic unrelated
There is a thread with a bunch of car shit on /t/. Check there for info. Though that may be a bit too in-depth for you right now.
just lurk here for a while and google things you wanna know. That's what I did. Also youtube

really useful for learning about the mechanics of everything
for getting to know things, lurk moar
it will come to you as you immerse yourself in it
visit different kinds of threads, see the different things, notice the design patterns, get your own taste, and figure out what you are into
this isn't necessary at the moment, but if you want, watch Initial D if you haven't already. big meme for the board
take this AW11 as a token of goodwill
Read GM service manuals and build models

buy a cheap as shit car and start doing racing.
Only way you can be REALLY into cars instead of some benchracing cuntshit on anonymous dog stroking board.
Honestly 90% of the shit people say like "muh has 100 more horsepower" "muh 300lbs lighter" "muh laptimes" and "muh 1/4 times"
have no impact in real fucking life at all.
That is called bench racing, quoting statistics someone else you'll never be achiving things with a car you'll never drive.
In real life v8 2017 stang, GTR, LS1 supercharger swapped e46 driven by a pro drift driver and purpose race built eg hatch all get BTFO by a granpa driving a stock ford puma on the track.
tl:dr find a car you want to buy, spend ages on research and comparing it to competitors, buy a car and race it and you're a car guy instead of some benchracing faggot

Regular car reviews on YouTube is the guy that really taught me a lot all memes aside

And just Google whatever terms you don't understand

Holy shit this takes me back
I learned most of what I know from watching sloppy mechanics, roadkill, roadkill garage, and hot rod garage, no shit.
I went out and bought a POS old muscle car and swapped the engine by myself over a weekend, and I'd probably been under a car twice in my life. It's basically legos for grownups in most cases. Get something that's not a dumpster fire but needs a little love and you'll probably be okay.

Not op, buy what to do when there aren't any race tracks nearby?
>>17475069
Open the door to a car. Get in. Now you're in a car.

I'm working on getting a license atm, what can I do in the meantime to get a good idea on what I'm doing and what type of car I'd go for?
