Mercedes W124/W201 is often overlooked and is cheap on gas, insurance, maintenance (mostly), and is reliable as long as it's been taken care of. It might not be the most "fun" car to drive but if you get snow it will still get around on all seasons and you can get hektik in parking lots sliding around in second gear.

Seconding this, only the Crown Vic has better parts availability. And by that I mean eBay pull-offs and junkyard wrecks. You can get one that runs but has fender damage and a fucked interior for $600 and replace 80% of the thing for $300.
