Aside from Nascar, every other race series on the planet requires you to be fit, from the G-forces that are dealt with in driving, some series require you to be under a certain weight.

All endurance race drivers are fit to deal with the multiple hours spent at high heart rates.

Because the sea of gentlemen drivers that attend to endurance racing is far from fit.
That's why they are the ones who get the least driving time out of the two or three drivers in a car, because they are slow and not fit.

Seriously, just go watch this year's team photo shootings at le mans, most of the times you can spot the bronze driver (slowest of the crew) from a mile away.

It's the guys being paid to drive that are fit, not they paying ones.
