IT's a fun and great career that pays well until your client's proprietary shitware takes a dump. At that point the company that makes it will just blame you, nobody's ever going to admit fault. Your client will give it a few days of the other company not helping them due to some bullshit they cite in the contract until they realize that if the software isn't working, they don't need it anymore and also don't need the computer as well, and therefore don't need you. This can and will happen to each and every client you work with once the shitware company realizes it's easier to make money by getting more shitty sales people who lie their ass off because they get paid on commission and keep selling it to new clueless clients instead of fixing even the smallest problem with it. There is no incentive for them not to do this which is why it's going to happen and why IT is a meme industry.

I'm dealing with this today, faulty design implemented by sales and I've had this in my hands for a month and just got shit on this week. You can't really say well it was handed to me this way and that is the way they wanted it but than again the company expects you to re-design it anyway and take the blame

Now I'm fucking stuck with bad news

I did make a mistake though, tried to pass the blame = explain the way it was handed to me in that way. I should have sat there and taken the pain but I couldn't keep it shut any longer...

I'd imagine the US and elsewhere is similar.

What makes it worth you being payed so much more than someone else with the same qualifications? Is it just knowing the right people to get a position that used to be filled with someone with a lot more experience?

There are trainable and untrainable skills. Although there are multiple candidates with the same degrees and qualifications, not everyone will be a good fit for some companies.

Where I work, you start out as a temporary hourly employee for about 6 months. Then if you're a good fit, you get offered really competitive compensation to become permanent. Not everyone makes the cut.

Me again! When you are in IT, everyone else might as well be on vacation forever especially the other shitware company. They aren't taking your call because they know their product is shit. It might not even be the programmer's fault, it's the CEO's fault because he's trying to just make more money by having 1 programmer and 9 sales shits for a project that requires 10 programmers.

It just hasn't. Happened. Yet. And it will. At which point you, along with nobody else on earth, will be able to do anything, and they will realize that no matter how nice you are, your job is pointless.

If this happens, a proper company would use you as the IT person to investigate new software that actually works. Too bad this is also never going to happen. Guarantee you within 30 minutes they will go full luddite and go right back to paper. Doesn't matter if this wouldn't work out due to the size of the business, because administration and HR also has its head far up its ass.

I can't quit yet, I make a very, very nice salary and need to stick this out for some time. I think I've even started internalizing this shit into my life and it has been making me feel bad about the IT field
