Waterview tunnel has 18 speed cameras

This is a blue board which means that it's for everybody (Safe For Work content only). If you see any adult content, please report it.

The new waterview tunnel that links the western and south western motorways will have 18 speed cameras to enforce a max speed of 80 at all times.

This just ads to a list of pathetic fuck ups so far:
>emergency exits just go into the other tunnel
>jet fan system isn't powerful enough to cope with exhaust fumes of max traffic, so traffic into the traffic is regulated by...
>Fucking ramp signals! Yes the brand new section of tunnel has ramp signals at either end
>if a traffic jam forms in the tunnel, it will need to be evacuated. ie everyone turns off their cars and walks out
>they named it waterview tunnel. Which is both ironic now, and will be even more so when the fire suppression system causes it to flood

I was hoping this tunnel would be sick for some late night crusing and pulls, but now that "no fun allowed at any time ever" has been implemented I'll be avoiding this pile of shit at all times. Hopefully the traffic jams it will cause don't affect my commute.

What the fuck kind of retarded engineers couldn't even design their tunnel to handle vehicle exhaust? Did nobody think to stop its development when they realized this?

You would be amazed at the incompetence of Auckland transport. These are the people who made the Auckland harbour bridge 4 lanes and bought more from China
>>
Why are we so terrible at roading
>Wellington "smart motorway"
>Makes my commute 30 minutes longer for over a year while they construct it
>Saves me no time when it opens
>Speed changes "with traffic flow"
>Gets it constantly wrong (100kmph when there's a traffic jam, 60kmph when traffic is flowing)
>Cops wait to ticket people when the speed limits drop
>>
>>17457255
Even if the motorway had 100 lanes it wouldn't make a difference. At the end you merge down to 2 lanes, and then down to 1 for the majority of your trip to the airport. It's a joke. It's a shame the rich pricks decided not to do a basin flyover because it would make their houses drop a little in price.

Fun fact
>NZ transport brought a huge amount of houses to make 2 lanes to the airport possible
>Now their not allowed to, they rent them out for a profit
>Some of them they just leave empty despite there being a housing crisis (3 apartments with close to 30 units)
>Media refuse to report on it.
>>
>>17457306
Lol if it was 100 lanes there would be one car driven by an Asian with blinkers on driving at 90 in every single one blocking the whole thing

Well we can import whatever we want, and my z has no emissions equipment. At all. And its completely legal.

Also
>implying this couldn't happen in the states
>>
>>17459042
Well the jet fans can't cope with all that exhaust, so there would be a risk of everyone getting CO poisoning if they got stuck in a traffic jam. It's only designed for spaced free flowing traffic
>>
>>17460036
Speed cameras can't happen in the states because we're a free country
>>
>>17456800
They have shit like this on the pacific highway (connecting NSW with QLD), where you pass one set of cameras, then another 100km's later and if you exceed an average time you get fined. I've heard it only applies to trucks but its still pretty bullshit.

>>
>>17456800
Most of Italy's highways are monitored by a network of those average speed cameras. There is one every two or three kilometers in the most dense areas and they also act as normal speed cameras if needed.

Thankfully they don't adjust the limit with traffic or weather condition so they are always set for the max 130km/h, but still..

They suck nigger dicks because there is absolutely no way around them besides hiding your plates.
Also they measure the average between every camera, not just on the whole highway or between tolls, so you can't do a short run at say 200 followed by a run at 60 or a brief stop at a service station to keep your average legal, unless you make it all happen in the very short distance between cameras, which is extremely unpractical.

Pretty much every major highway has those and they plan on spreading the network everywhere possible.
>>
>>17460044
Speed cameras can't happen in the US because you're behind the times and still prefer getting pulled over by meatheads three feet from semi trucks blasting by. It's more dangerous and less efficient.
>>

Do you get points on your license in Germany? In the UK you get three points for speeding (get 12 in total and you lose your license), that worries people more than having to pay the fine.
>>
>>17457255

You get 1 point if your 21 kph over speed limit (13mph)
2 points if you are over 41 kph over limit.

You can have 8 points max. But they can be reduced.

That means you can always drive 20 more because its just 30€.
>>
>>17460362
>Do you get points on your license in Germany?
There is a points system, but you don't get any points unless you drive more than 20 kph over the limit (outside of cities anyways)

>>
>>17465239
Not necessarily. I have relations in an Auckland business that was also trying to win that contract. In the end, it was awarded to a German company who would do it for cheaper. If the ducting and placement of the system isn't up to cleanly flowing more volume, adding more power wont solve the issue.
Its likely that the system they designed would be based on the specifications they (wrongly) calculated. It may be their fault, it may be the customers fault, i wouldn't put it passed some smartarse in the planning department for this project thinking they could save a buck.
I wont be using this tunnel, don't need any more tickets.

In my usa state, none of my school zones have speed cameras unless there is a chronic problem. So, my city only has 2 schools with speed zone cameras. They are set to save video and photo data at 2 MPH over the speed limit. They passed special zoning speed laws to increase the fines way beyond a normal speeding ticket. It is $249 and up, so no one speeds in those camera zones. We have a no cellphone while driving law, so it's humorous when people try to complain in court about the tickets only to have the judge watch the video and look at the photos. He then slaps on the cellphone violation and bam, the ticket is now much higher and it is mandatory to report to the insurance company.

>Media refuse to report on it.
Lots of things are that way in the USA too, but that is due to laws passed after our 9/11. The media is required to not stir up social unrest upon request by homeland security. The judge's court order is almost guaranteed since homeland security has its own "pet judges" they can always count on to issue necessary documentation.

I once listened to a pig say that he doesn't reduce/waive tickets because modern cars have cruise control. He said there's literally no reason to speed other than you genuinely want to break the law, and therefore he always writes the full ticket and shows up for court dates when people contest them.

Glad that wasn't the cunt who wrote my last ticket, but he did tell me "I like court, it teaches people a lesson and that they need to listen to police when we tell you not to speed".

The level of flagrant dickwaving in this province is getting out of hand, especially with cops. I used to have immense respect for them...now, not so much. Especially those who do traffic enforcement. Fucking overpaid shills.

Germany is heaven for speeding, but it's just about the only place in Europe you get off easy. I remember my €30 fine for 17 over, never paid so quickly.

I got caught doing 191 in a 120 in Belgium, judge fined me €1500 and revoked my license for 6 months.

>mfw moved to the US and haven't paid it to this day, 2 years later

fuck the police lads
>>
>>17469552
One day, you go visit europe on vacation or business, and you get detained at the passport entry check. The computer spits out that you have an EU community fine of €1500 plus interest.
>>
>>17468344
>>17468375

It's in France, that was a 45€ fine and 1 point revoked from my licence (we have 12, 6 if you're a beginner, and each point lost comes back after one year). You start getting fined 5km/h above the speed limit to account for measuring issues.
I don't really mind, I'm just angry that I got caught since I know this road but didn't know there was a speed camera there.
The worst thing about them is that there's now almost no cops on the road, so actually dangerous shit like agressive merging, lane splitting, etc, stays unpunished.

No, you'll be citing your local newspapers and whatever other official sources of news exists in your area. It's not like the rest of the world sees all the same resources you do. So you can really make that part of the Waterview Tunnel wikipedia article more complete. Right now, it looks like any problems were scrubbed. Sometimes, articles can get scrubbed before an election and then after the election is over, the negative data eventually returns (usually but not always e.g. chinese food toxicity).

Impossible. Most radars have tolerances of 5kph.
That is why the chart the other guy posted starts at 24mph.
If you get fined for 22 in a 20 take it to court, it's illegal. Also they are obligated to tell you what they used for measuring and you can get the user manual for that online, it will tell you exactly the tolerance.

There is both photo and video. The distances of objects are known and the computer tracks the object in the gate. A human verifies all situations before a fine letter is sent out.

Your car is at point A. It is then at point B a certain amount of time later. Since the distance between A and B are known, you are 22 MPH. You are in violation of the speed limit.

>Why would he go to the middle east?
I see what you did there. But realistically, there are tax advantages for creating a mosque. Since they are known to feed people, unlike christian churches, the muslim mosques have a tax advantage in making some of the consumed food tax deductible.

Churches can also transfer money for individuals and defeat the USA tax system somewhat. There is a korean medical student here and I heard him talking to his other korean friend about how he gets money. The parents put in money in the korean side. And he gets it on the USA side from his local korean church. That way, the guy keeps qualifying for needy scholarships even though he has enough support to NOT qualify.

Is that a state thing? So many USA places have speed cameras for many years that it can't be a constitutional thing. Else the supreme court would have struck down speed cameras by now.

There's way too much kneejerk use of "muh rightz" without understanding the situation. Entitled people always saying "muh rightz" as their answer to every problem in their lives.

If they felt they could justify raping your wife and children, they'd shout out "itz muh right!". They'd do it with now shame because they feel justified.

What is it with the stupid shit regarding speed limits over there?
I was in Sydney 10 years ago, and already the guy driving us around had a piece of paper clipped under his speedometer to record his speed continuously. They didn't even have to catch him in the act, it made marks with a pencil, so his employer could review it and bust him afterwards.

Exactly like that. The paper was the same size circle and numbered the same as the speedometer. There would've been no way for him to argue against that.
The craziest thing was that I swore he said his company was mandated to do it, like they got fined by the state or something for non-compliance if they didn't audit him.
>>

I would fuck around and get the vehicle on jackstands and drive it to max speed just because.

sure, they can "prove" the vehicle did that kind of speed, but can they prove I did?
>>
>>17486240
>like a fucking seismograph?
Yes. Even in modern times, some trucks still have those paper disc loggers as usage records. Electronic spoofing is all over the place due to china being a country full of hackers. For example, there's various types of chinese-made software (in english) for computer controlled cash registers. With it loaded, when triggered, it prints the correct looking sales receipt for the customer but puts in a different lower value (or none at all) for the logfile. It is the logfile that accountants and auditors use to determine how much in taxes the business pays.

So it's understandable some people like the feel of paper records generated live as opposed to electronic records generated by a hack program after the firmware was replaced with a new firmware patch.

Most of the city roads in phoenix are straight lines but you can find some twisty places that are remote, or you can hoon on the highway which is always empty at midnight/1am. Two dudes in modified cars that I couldn't identify because I'm trash pulled up to a light and hauled ass while I was taking my friend home tonight. Didn't join in because shitty dodge truck.

However, on my sv650 I let my inner hooligan free. I've only had it for about two months but oh my god everyone tries to race because motorcycle. If you're in a fast car or on a bike in AZ at night just pull up next to pretty much anyone and gun it, they'll probably race you

On the downside, it was 108 degrees yesterday and I was excited because that's a lot cooler than it has been lately. It was 118 a week or two ago lmao

They have large bills with colored growths on or next to them. I hesitate to say they are cancerous, but it would be believable to say that. Maybe the reclaimed water had It's been years since I was there, so the ducks may be different now. When I asked around, that place has one of the world's tallest fountains. It's so tall that a 100 million gallon pond (aka lake) was built around the fountain to catch the drifting water spray that results from even the slightest wind.

http://www.fh.az.gov/Facilities/Facility/Details/Fountain-Park-2

The ducks were so tame they were like "muggers" in that they come right up to you and get in your face if they see you eating something. I had bought some teriyaki to go so that I could drive over to that park and eat while wating for the fountain to turn on at the beginning of the hour. It really is pretty tall.

The water looks wispy, but if you were up close to it, the water coming down has a lot of weight and actually hits the surface of the lake pretty hard. It might even be painful due to the large volume landing at the same time. Instead of a splashing sound, it is more like a bunch of overlapping thumping sounds because each of the many clumps of water land with a thump.

>>
>>17502786
Lane changing is what causes accidents. It's pretty standard in my area to have solid painted lines outside and inside the tunnels to prohibit lane changing.

>>17502786
>I would assume as lane changing is the biggest cause of brake conga lines
It may be as you say. Even outdoors on two different freeways in my area, there are lanes marked with solid lines in certain areas. The signs say that no lane changing permitted for those lanes where the lines are solid.
>>
We have the same shit in Paris. Duplex A86. It's a 10km long highway tunnel low enough so that trucks are not allowed in it. The tunnel is a tube with both direction on top of each others so no risk of collision. However the speed is limited to fucking 70 and there's an automatic radar ever km.
>>
>>17503106
I wish my area had roads these as to further trigger left lane Nazis but no lane markings are actually legally binding here (It's perfectly legal to cross double yellows and solid white lines). I'm just praying the day will come when it's finally illegal so they'll at long last shut the fuck up and stop bullying people out of the left lane as to miss their exit

It's not that the jet fans INTRINSICALLY don't have enough volume or pressure. It's that the back pressure of the air in the tunnel resists being moved since it has inertia AND hysteresis. That means the jet fans can blow air into the tunnel and it simply comes right back out the same entrance the fans tried to blow into. The same with the other end where the fans suck air out. But instead of sucking out of the tunnel, the air simply enters the tunnel and goes right into the intake of that fan.

All that is because the tunnel opening is there. My corporate employer has a long underground tunnel almost a city block long under part of one section of the factory. To get air, there is a suction fan at one end. The fan sucks air, but it does so through a long ventilation duct whose opening is about 100 feet inwards from the doorway. If not for that, the air would simply try to circulate in a tight short loop centered around that doorway (and also make the door hard to pull open).

It looks like the engineering company forgot about the sheer scale of the back pressure, so their jet fans have an air circulation short circuit. They can improve the back pressure situation by installing multiple vertical baffles on the ceiiling between the fan outlet in the tunnel and the tunnel opening. That means lowering the allowable height of the tunnel though.

>>
>>17503651
>perfectly legal to cross double yellows and solid white lines
So double yellow lines are only "advisory" in your area. Over here, we are not to make left turns across them. Sometimes, there is a popular business and people will make left turns across the double yellow. If the city notices that, they might put up those flexible vertical flag things.
>>

Some states have voluntarily limited themselves against photo ID type evidence while other states have not. Thus, in those states that passed laws due to activists protecting criminals, it's not legal to use computer robot camera evidence.

My state allows computer robots to gather road data and continues to prosecute people who run red lights, run certain stop signs, speed through school zones, speed through problem areas, or do hit and runs. Robot cameras continue to catch those people since the software is smart and uses the multiple cameras efficiently.

One cam has a telescope like lens and can really zoom into the car to show the driver's face clearly and can even follow the car somewhat as it moves. I can see why criminal defense activists keep trying to outlaw computerized data collection of law breakers. Some activists go overboard like racial activists who see all forms of law enforcement as racist. It's no wonder they hate law enforcement since most of the violent crimes in my city are done by just two races.

The other indirect advantage of robots collecting speeding and red light data is it frees up police officers. Those officers can now handle customer service complaints and reduce the horrible wait times where a crime is called in, but they have to wait four hours or the next day before an officer shows up to take statements.

>If you don't see the problem with massive surveillance
The great majority of people don't know why they should fear massive surveillance. They carry smartphones that record wherever they go and for how long. They use cards for their puchases and that locks the UPC codes to their identity, date, and time. They drive in cars that phone home their driving data, locations, and where they visit. The gov't has dna, fingerprint, palm print, and photo databanks of all citizens it can get pictures of and updates the collection. Your utility usage shows how many people are living in your household and their movements at various times of data. In fact, there is a company out there that sells software to datamine the way your utilities are used. For example, the same quantity of water is used, but the way the water pulses shows if it was a toilet flush or use of the kitchen sink in food preparation versus how many times the washing machine was run. Vizio (a chinese company) got in trouble when their larger TV phoned home data so they modified their user agreement to be legal. Their built-in camera can detect how many people are watching. So if you plug in your hdmi to your laptop to play back the video whose metadata is titled "How to Be A Homosexual in 30 Days" at midnite, it will have your usage record. All legal.

Facebook? You already know that's legal. Paypal usage? Online purchase records? Your ex-wife's divorce lawyer digs out records you bought one gross (144) of Midnite Rose condoms just 10 days after marriage, but she says you never used any of them with her. The court settlement is increased in her favor....

We're losing net neutrality too. Since the common masses of people don't know about the issues or don't know why they should care. When the politicians see the people not care, then they will accept the bribes from lobbyists and vote the way the bribers, riaa, mpaa want for non-net neutrality.

Who's paying for fixing the engineering mistake? Is the company going to pay for some of the needed fixes?
>>
>>17518966
They don't see it as a mistake. It's the same as when they first built the south-western and it merged onto the southern. 3 lanes merged with 3 lanes, all reduced down to 2 lanes within 400m.
How did they fix it? Ramp signals of course. Its made the traffic a bit better, but the end of the south-western is still the worst "on ramp" in the Southern Hemisphere.
>>
>>17519153
I see, it is the usual politician game of admit no mistake and therefore there is no mistake. That's especially important if the company paid bribes under the table to "win" the project contract in the first place.
