What's /O/'s opinion of pop up headlights? They are old fashioned, but I like them, but I want a professional yet not even close to professional opinion.
>>17453121
Pop up headlights are a gift directly from God which we have shoved to the dirt in pursuit of satan's 'ay-ro-die-namics' in an attempt to kill any styling applied to vehicles whatsoever.
Not sure if you were being sarcastic or not, but I agree. I'll take that as if there was no potentially sarcastic tone.
>>17453121
I miss them so much, I'm in the market for a new car but it doesn't seem like anything exists except for the Miata
I wish we got the AE86 that's such a fucking sexy looking car, but I don't think the hatchback variant even exists in the US. Maybe I'm wrong
>>17455252
it does but they're all 10k or more now
>>17455252
No, the US and Canada got the hatchback as well as the coupe.
I'm kinda glad I live in Canada, as the only AE86 I can find are truenos, no boring levins.
>>17453121
useless gimmick, just added more points of failure and was fuck ugly 99% of the time
>>17455255
REEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE
>>17455256
I'm jelly, I don't think I've ever seen one. It's probably the most attractive example I've seen of pop up lamps + hatchback
Dumping some pop up lamps I guess
>>17455281
>>17455282
>tfw one day we are going to run out of cars/parts for vehicles before the 2000s
I don't want to live in that world

>>17455298
>>17455302
>>17455308
To be frank I think that previous one is kinda dorky looking but I still like it
they are objectively shit in every possible way and its a good thing car companies dont have to follow dumb laws that required them on certain cars
subjectively they ruin the lines of every car when theyre up and just look plain fucking ugly
>>17455296
>4chan didnt condition him to like traps
i dont see what that has to do with ugly headlights
>>17455313
One more AE86 for the road. I think they look great in silver. It's interesting to me that I think aerodynamic cars look shitty in silver but older 80s cars in silver make my peepee hard
>>17455320
That's just not true though
>>17455347
sorry to burst your bubble but yes it is
heavier
ruins aerodynamics
more things to break
more expensive
popups are objectively shit
>>17455351
>MUH AERODYNAMICS
tripfaggots, how do they do it
>>17455359
sorry but its the truth
popups are shit
you can eat shit plenty of people do
>>17455320
>>17455351
wow it must be the one time a year i actually agree with a tripfag
out of all the offenders, the FD was the worst by far. how do you take a beautifully-designed body that clearly has aerodynamics in mind, and then ruin that with fucking pop ups?
>>17455369
Do you also appreciate how every car out now is the same bar of soap with a different badge?
Pop up headlights were a way to add styling points to cars without ruining their aerodynamics. Wanna go fast, put down the headlights you dense fucker.
>>17455395
That's probably too much effort for her. How's the shitboxe working out?
>>17453165
This.
Couldn't agree more.
>>17455385
yas
>>17455395
yeah I should put the lights down when its pitch black out
goddamn you are retarded
that still doesnt fix the weight
popups are objectively shit I dont care if you like them enough to make your little cringy rant up there that doesnt stop the facts
>>17455410
It doesn't work.
Got the brakes and suspension redone, have the new hood getting a nice ricer matte black, being the only colour I had lying around. Got new door hinges, hold latch and cable, and a shitload of fuses. Just using the broken drivers seatbelt latch as an excuse to see how low I can get an RSX driver seat to replace it.
As of now, it's all electrical, and the new rocker panels are dirt cheap as well. Finally got a job interview, if it goes well, the car will be finished and on the road mid July.
>>17455436
If you're going fast enough at night to have e lights make any noticeable difference, you're gonna get yourself killed regardless. 20-40kg for the headlights really isn't that much.
>objectively
>facts
Pick one. Either have it your opinion, or prove me wrong with facts.
>>17455450
uhh
objective means it came from facts and not opinion
that is subjective which is where I said I think theyre ugly
no matter what popups are shit
>>17453165
this. obviously.
OP must be new because popups are /o/ as fuck
>>17455457
>subjectively
Fuck, messed up there.
If you really think they're so bad, why the fuck are you in the pop-up thread to begin with?
>>17455472
>What's /O/'s opinion of pop up headlights?
I mean it sounded like op wanted opinions not a circle jerk
Posting some more pop up lamps to try and mitigate the shitposting

ironically I have a white Probe GT as well despite my dislike of popups lel
mine is a 1G tho
>>17453165
they could keep plastic lamps out of the sun
and glass lamps protected from rocks when not in use
>>17455516
>hates popups
>owns best probe
But....
Wanna swap?
>>17455526
nah its a high mileage example thats been sitting at this point due to me losing interest still runs just fine tho I had another master cylinder take a shit
gonna be selling it for like $750 with the parts and shit I have in the next couple months since I wont be needing a car at all
>>17455533
Damn is it a based turbo model? I almost bought a gen 1 but this one was too good to pass up and I have a shit ton of aftermarket from the last one I had, Hotshot headers, Greddy SP2 exhaust, some other bolt-ons, Aeromotive 1000 and some OEM stuff too. I have a mint set of the chrome swirly wheels too.
It does need some attention the AC doesn't work and the shifter bushings vaporized, but the car has no rust, straight body and no major dents or scratches, plus it has cloth seats which are Florida summer approved. I've wanted one for so long and couldn't find a clean unmolested copy without a boomer tax and this one is it.
I've got a 95 4cyl with almost 300k on the clock as well, everything works. Will need paint soon.
I don't know. I love them, but they're not something I'm actively looking for in a car like a manual transmission or RWD. It's something that came and went. Most cars before pop-ups were popular just had regular headlights, and now we have regular headlights once again.
Some cars look just as good with or without pop-ups, like the AE86 Sprinter Trueno and Levin. Pop-ups are a cute, but I can really apprechiate some square fixed headlights. They just look... mature.
>>17455533
also find the Ford Probe / Mazda MX6 group on facespace and sell it there. People are always looking for Gen 1s they are very rare these days. Had a 91 LX V6 with a rare 5-speed manual, should have never got rid of that car.
>>17455533
>high mileage
>sitting
Cool, mine too!
Master cylinder's still good in the Civic, and I can't imagine replacing a master cylinder on a Ford-Mazda will be that hard,
>>17455566
On the Gen 2 it's a 30 minute job if you aren't stupid. Gen 1 I believe is identical mounting location.
>>17455550
yeah its the F2T
I have a 2.5" downpipe and exhaust and running like 12 psi with no muffler so its obnoxious as fuck and is somehow louder when you lift off the gas
>shifter bushings vaporized
kek mine are too
the car wasnt in the best of condition and had dents and shit but I was 17 and always wanted a 1st gen Probe GT
when I bought it but a replaced the egr iac maf and all that good shit so it actually runs worth a damn
fucker used to not even idle unless you unplugged the maf which made it smoke like diesel
>>17455564
yeah Id probably sell it for even less tbqh
Im the kind of person who will take a massive loss to let a car go to someone who will use it for good
I got my 7 years of enjoyment from it and at the very least Id like for its parts to go into helping another car if they dont want to fuck with it
>>17455566
its not
but I was a cheap cunt and got a refurbished one last time and it started leaking after like 2 months and got pissed bought another one from Rockauto but they sent me an ABS one
then I did a bunch of bad life decisions blah blah shit happened Imma hopeless neet now yada yada
>>17455590
Eh, using what you had isn't a crime.
I'd actually love to take it off your hands for 850-1000, but I suspect you're a two days drive from me, give or take.
>>17455606
its not worth that much and it would have to be towed and shit
but im in NC
>>17455621
>4 days of driving
Shit. East coast best salt tho, right?
is there any good pop-up headlights car for a first car besides MR2 and miata ?
>>17455637
Pop ups generally signal that a car is not suitable for a first car.
You will wreck or damage your first car. That is a fact. Buy something not rare but enjoyable, and spend time with that. Buy a car with popups after you can reliably own a car for a year without dings/dents/crashes.
>>17455650
>You will wreck or damage your first car. That is a fact.
not every country drives like america
