So i have to buy a car for uni because the places i have to go are not really near each other. (Europe btw)
I thought about a Renault (Dacia) Duster because of the following reasons:

-it's kinda cheap (10k € + for a brand new one)
-can handle shitty roads
-you can sleep in it (in case of spontaneous festival alarm)
-storage room

So far this is the most suitable car for me for the cheapest price. Does anyone know a better/cheaper/less gas using aequivalent for the Duster?

Oh and what i forgot to mention is that the insurance is not too expensive as well since its not a "beginner car" or a model thats known for being in crashes etc.

Cheaper? Not really
Better? Sure

The build qualiy aint all that great. Plastic on the underside/wheel arches don't like gravel and crack/penetrate very easily, electrics aint all that great with plenty of ignition faults, diesel pumps make a habit of shitting themselves, paint that flakes around the front of the hood and edges of the doors

They are also way too light on the front end for winter driving, the AWD system is "meh" and it feels cheap, even for how cheap it is

A second-hand Suzuki SX4, Toyota RAV4 or Honda CRV is a much better option

Fuck, it was supposed to be
Cheaper? Sure
Better? Not really

Bying a used car for the money of a new Dacia usually gets you a much better made, reliable and safe car.

spend 10k on a used Auris/Corolla/Civic, you can even get an older one for 6-8k and you'll still get something decent enough
>>
>>17449293
>10k euros
You now there are cheaper ways to kys OP right?

Depends on your budget, where in the world you are, and what must-haves it has to have
>>
>>17450048
I'm really tempted to buy a 2 wheel drive kit that bolts onto the transfer case, or just unbolt a prop shaft on mine.
>>17450183
Lada 4x4 5 door model.

I'd like to pay less than 10 000 Euros, I'm in France, my wife must be able to drive it as a winter car on steep frozen or muddy country roads, with two kids in the back and groceries.
It would be perfect if I could also pull a trailer on the highway with it as well.
As you can guess I don't really care about dolby suround 7.1 heated seats and mahogany wood.
What do you think?
Is the Duster 4WD that bad?

It's a stripped Renault Captur (which in turn is basically a lifted Clio) with worse build quality.
Some used Suzuki SUV would probably be a better choice.
>>
>>17451017
>used Suzuki SUV
You mean Vitara or Jimny?
Are they reliable?
Are the parts easy to find?
>>
>>17451017
Damn.
Feels bad.
The Captur is a seriously shitty car.
>>
>>17451129
At least they're commonly driven by idiots who buy the 1.2 TCe for muh empeegees and subsequently get into an accident, totaling the car, which makes them a great source for potential D4FT engine to swap into a Twingo.
>>
>>17451145
>driven by idiots
kek
I kept going from 5th gear to reverse on the highway because I was driving a 6 speed Focus just before.
>>
>>17451017
And now I want to get my wife a Samurai all over again.
>>
>>17450244
I rented a Suzuki Grand Vitara over the Duster. That's an option because Suzukis are fantastic makes

Come to assland with me benzy. We got 3 empty seats in the back (;
>>
So, an old 4WD Suzuki is better than a new 4WD Duster?
But how old is too old?
>>
>>17451050
I can't speak for the 2017 line personally but it retains the same rugged characteristics yet a modern multipoint petrol engine. My monopoint 1.7 is a bit of pig on petrol but the car makes up for that with reliability and ruggedness.
>>
But Plymouth no longer exists any more Anon and dusters are all rusted out
>>
>>17451086
Vitara is for wife
Jimny is for you when you want to put land rovers to shame when offroading
>>
>>17451426
10 years old is the max you should go, older than that and your wife is going to bitch
>>
>>17450242
Don't care
My 3200 lbs (1600kg) 4th gen 5 series is thousand times better

The duster is a fine car. The car I first started driving with. Diesel version is kinda fun to drive and totally fine if u don't care about extras
