graphene, nanotubes etc.
cars that weight only a fraction of today's cars with the same or even more safety.
can't fucking wait.
>>
Batteries that weight next to nothing are also in development
>>
>they will be applied to motorcycles by absolute madmen

Would make the bike incredibly topheavy while being absurdly fast.

Have fun with that.

Can't wait for cars to be able to be fueled by semen with a fleshlight for the filler pipe.

you're reading too much mangas

I personally am just excited for the coming of carbon fibre in affordable passenger cars. I expect the next gen mx-5 to be sub 775kg because of this.
>>
>>17447786
you could balance it with aero.
>>17447370
wow, it's like 10 years ago. is graphene the new Fusion power meme?
>>

I don't think carbon fiber (even if they find a cheap way to mass produce it) will ever amount to a relevant percentage of the mass of any vehicle in the near future, except for expensive super/hyper cars.

CF doesn't bend, it cracks, and repairing it is a long and relatively expensive process. Every fender bender on a car with a CF body will result in cracked parts which are not only ugly, but also very dangerous because fibres are extremely sharp and can pierce through your skin like it's noone's business, not to mention the dust is carcinogenic as all fuck if you breathe it.

Chassis suffer the same problem, a cracked CF tub on a cheap car will result in a complete scrap of the car because repairing it is so complicated and expensive that you are better off just buying a new one. Nowadays it's not a problem because people who can afford supercars usually can afford to repair them too, but if you put a CF chassis on a Civic, it will simply be too expensive to repair almost any damage at all.

Even many interior parts would be too dangerous to be made out of CF for the aforementioned sharpness, you won't see whole dashboards or door panels made out of carbon fiber, for example

*Too many

Also, cars would just get bigger as they'd need more crumple zone. What is the failure mode of a "Graphene/Nanocarbon" chassis? CF snaps like a cracker and cuts like a razor.

Isn't graphene for processors and nanotubes are like asbestos.
>>
>>17447406
The problem would be how the fuck do you keep the front wheel down.
>>
>>17449224
More or less. Airborn particulates are a serious concern, moreso than asbestos.
>>

...
Good point. Inb4 Brabham fan bikes.

Yes, carbon fiber dust is extremely dangerous because once you have it in your lungs, it will forever stay there and it will just accumulate the more you breathe it.

It's basically a time bomb, fibres are so sharp they will stick to your lungs and become progressively smaller as years pass. Eventually, fibres become so small that they reach the deepest parts of your lungs, where the oxygen is exchanged with blood, and enter the blood stream. Once there, white blood cells will try to attack them, but since the fibers are so tiny and sharp, they will literally impale and kill blood cells, releasing nasty chemicals that may or may not give you cancer.

Scary shit

>implying nanotubes won't just be 21st century asbestos
Now, how close are we to graphene mass production? I would expect more from a material that was discovered by peeling off pencil scribbles with tape
>>
>>17449556
Except everyone already knows carbon fiber particulate is carcinogenic, asbestos wasn't known to be harmful until someone noticed that people who got exposed to it started getting cancer some years down the line.
They made everything from brake pads to roof insulation out of it because it was supposed to be a miracle material with no side effects, but carbon won't go the same way because everyone knows to stay the fuck away from it when it produces dust.

You dont ;^)
