I think the car would look better with black bumpers. Hatch windows can be tinted but I don't recommend a black hatch, it'll look ricey.

1986 AE82 Twin Cam Seca
Bought it for $600AUD
Front lip is a rear bumper off an 87 AE82 cut up and narrowed 2 inches in the centre then screwed upside down to the front of the stock front bumper (struts are to stop it ripping off when my father decided to drive up steep driveways without slowing down...)

How many KM?
If it needs timing belt, clutch and ball joints it could be another 4k+
Clutch job especially, absolute cheapest ive been quoted was 1500$ in labor.

The front suspension components are extremely expensive also, around 2k

If its got more then 140k and the seller doesnt mention anything, count on one or more being an issue
>>
>>17444359
u-pull-it wreckers... usually have lots of 90's era rollas laying around.

only thing is you take the risk of it being fucked but if you get a good one itll be cheap as chips.
>>
>>17444408
wouldnt they all be mostly fucked from sitting outside for years? how about getting the tranny out in the middle of a wrecking yard?
>>
>>17444427
Most salvage yards dont have vehicles sitting out for long before they're scrapped, and provide hoists.
Find a vehicle with body damage to rule out mechanical issues.

The local pick n pull sells transmissions for 130$

Yo! Nab that sportcross man! I've got the red one in the collage. Def check the front and rear suspension then. Since the wagon shares the same components as the sedan but is ~150-200lbs heavier the shocks get worn a bit faster. As for the silly buttons, they can be kinda fun. I use them from time to time
>>
>>17445136
Well if everything checks out in the drive tomorrow ill buy it same day.
Anything other than the suspension then? also how rare are these sportcross, i've only seen one in person and happened to come across this one while looking for wagons on craigslist

Uh only other thing I can think of is that the dash can get a bit melty but that's an is300 problem as a whole. Around 29k were made over the course of 5 years and I think ~3k made it to the states so it's pretty uncommon to see. I think I came across those numbers from a clublexus post. It can, then, be a problem to source body parts. Everything from the B pillar back I think is unique to the wagon body

Nothing new, so I'll just post a recent pic.

Have you ever been in that situation when your car works just fine, and probably will for many years with minimum maintenance, but you still feel the need to do this and that?

So far I planned :

- having both bumpers repainted, plus some minor dents
- new supensions front and rear, the stock ones are a bit bouncy, they're not fucked, but they've seen some shit
- cat delete, to gain a few HP
- maybe a CAI, just for the intake sound

That's at least 500-600€ right there, but I don't need it, it's just because I want this car to be as clean as possible, even if it's "just" a Corolla.

C50-52 transmissions can be pretty hard to come by, depending on where you live. Where I live, the pakis exported the shit out of the AE101s, which means that they're very rare in junkyards, your best bet, in that case, is to buy a donor car.

Another idea is to buy the rebuild kit on ebay, and do it yourself, if you can afford to keep it garaged for a while. Having that done in a shop can be expensive.

>>17453129
I've looked into this more and more lately as I have the tC

Seems like the safe amount Of boost most people do with that engine is around 6psi, after hat it starts to wear on the internals too much. Dezod makes a pretty reliable turbo for the engine, in thinking I might buy from them.

Most people with tC's usually see around 250-260hp with a turbo and 6psi, add on an intake exhaust and header and you'll get a bit higher.

I've thought about it but I'm having a hard time justifying the 5-7k that it wold cost instead of using that and saving that as a down payment on something faster without a turbo

>>17455515

AE92 Corolla (1988-1992). GT-S trim for 4AGE high revs. Mine had 260,000 and I've put on 15k more in a year with some routine maintenance. I got mine for 1600, but price depends on the car. Most don't exceed ~2500 USD

Those corollas are dope.

Similar position, spent a bunch on getting my rear right door fixed on my Camry. It urgently needs washing though, but I've been swamped by stuff on the todo-list. Plus I need to find some time to get the 86 homologated.

Plus, I found these motherfuckers. Never had I expected to ever find a set, not even in good condition. Just got to figure out how to get them working.

If there are factory JDM mirrors, sure. If not, then please no. You have a cool little Corolla that's nice and clean, just keep it that way. And it's the LE. It's objectively a piece of shit car, but any old car in that condition is cool in my books. My brother had a white '87 sedan. Was pretty nice till some idiot hit it while it was parked on the street. And then my brother hated it because it wasn't fixed right and he hated how little power it had so he basically just beat on it and junked it.

Pic related is my '85 Celica. I've had a problem for ages now where it starts to buck and idle rough in hot weather. Might be signal generator or igniter. So I'm not really driving it too much right now since it's summer.
>>
>>17461169
I have a T231, it's very mundane for commuting, like driving a corolla. I get 26 mpg daily and once got to like 37 mpg on the highway. The 1zz-fed in that is probably going to return better gas mileage than my 2zz-ge, and probably going to be a lot more quieter. For both cars, the NVH isn't going to be swell, but what can you expect out of a 17-year old sporty compact.

How does MR2 drive in snow? A pretty heavy one when roads aren't clean to be exact. I'm looking for a car with pop-ups right now and I really like the MR2, but Im not into almost dying on every turn during snow-flurry

snow tires and anything is drivable under the right caution in snow. I've done it before and it's not going to magically spin out and kill you. I have no idea why people have this idea that it'll magically 360°, just don't drive like an idiot

I find that extremely hard to believe man.. not once in my 5 years of hooning this car as a DD has it ever been that easy to snap (in my experience the MR2 has much much higher limits of grip but it's infamous for little to no warning) but of course there's different variables like tires, driving conditions and capabilities etc etc.

-25% can be pretty harsh, even in my humble '93 Corolla, if I lift a quarter throttle while above 4k the engine brake will kick pretty hard, it depends on the car's sensibility, and how harshly you lift, even if it's not by a lot.

Thermostat.
>>
>>17478023
Still out of town but I looked at it while it's cold. Thermostat is located under the distributor and it's leaking hardcore at the water pump. It's accessory belt driven though.
>>
>>17478061
No talking about the leak. The fact that your water is boiling could be due to a stuck thermostat. The leak could very well just be a side effect of the overheating.

Which engine?

Did a basic inspection on my 4A-FE AE101 today, 3500km after the last oil change (so halfway).

How's that for oil consumption? I'd say I drive half reasonably, half spirited (5-6k gear changes), and I use Total 5000 15W40, cheap stuff.
>>
>>17478072
7afe. I could change that first and see? Even with the car off I can watch the drops coming from the water pump area on the back left of the engine.
>>
>>17478157
Replace the water pump. Inspect your thermostat, use the value engraved on it to test it in hot water with a thermometer and see if it opens when it should. Replace if necessary.

These pages are from the 4AFE manual, but the part number for the thermostat is the same, so the rest should follow. The 7AFE is basicaly a stroked version of the 4AFE.

Cool thanks. Got it back home with the heater working since I filled it back up before heading back. Doesn't look too hard since it's accessory driven and not timing belt driven. It is cramped back there, though. Replaced that tiny hose that goes to the water pump a long while back and it was a pain with my huge hands.

In the neighborhoods on this side of town, there's like a gang that has been going around and nonchalantly opening Toyota cars in the middle of the night to go through them. People I have talked to have all had a similar story of events, but the difference in them is the age of their car: late 90's, mid 2000's, recent. Is there a master key that opens most Toyota's that haven't had their locks changed?
>>
>>17479225
No most toyotas from the 2000s have laser cut keys if I'm not mistaken.

More than likely people being complacent and leaving them unlocked. Sounds like you also have a basketball American problem.

Get a gun.
>>
>>17479262
I'm pretty certain that they were locked. In my area people don't go inside until their car beeps and the handles dont open; I don't have a Toyota personally but I make sure mine beeps several times.

Poor eurofag from a country with shitty weather and almost no snow removal service in the winter here
Im going to buy my first car soon (though I have 2 years driving experience with my parents car)
and I'm looking into something relatively fast and cheap. Preferably with some good possibility of tunning later on. Something that I loved since seeing it for the first time was MR2 and 90s Celica, especially the first one because of it's speed that would really be handy for me (bypass on daily route, on the highway quite often and acceleration for ton of lights in the town)
The problem is, that as I said earlier I'm fucking poor and the snow is something more than common on the roads, so I suppose that MR2 is out of question since Ive read that they often end up as money sinks + the oversteer can get really bad at snow. I know that Celica is pretty good at snow, but does it apply to the older ones to?
Alternatively I've been thinking about prelude or Integra but I'm really torn between these 4 and wanted to get some help/suggestions
