Currently driving a soul sucking 13 Corolla le and have been looking at new cars. Focus st seems like an insanely nice upgrade for not much more money. Ford is doing 4k back and 0% for 72 bringing these down in price quite a bit. Test drive on sat
>>
Try a Fiesta ST if you can and compare them. Won't talk you out of it, people love ST's for good reason.

as long as you pay it off early (with no penalties), its not really an issue. if youre doing a 72 month loan bc thats all you can afford, thats an issue.
>>
>>17440498
I'll ask to text drive one of those too but I'd rather the larger vehicle for dd.
>>
>>17440520
yeah and OP is talking about how the 72 month loan will "bring it down a bit"

so he is making a poor decision
>>
>>17440520
op also said it's 0% apr which is only offered in 60-72 months. ford credit is pretty good I have a friend who got an ST with the 0% offer, and also several family members for other cars.

>>17440462
this
>>17440528
honestly the space difference isn't that bad. the focus rear seats are just as unusable if you don't want to sit <1ft from the dash on either side. the dash, back seat padding, doors and generally everything take up any roominess you might feel in the focus. the fiesta does feel more nimble and fun
>>
I got a 72 month loan on my ST for 0% even though I had enough money in savings to pay it off entirely. I'm not paying any extra, so why not? If I decide I want to upgrade a year or two earlier, it's a non-issue.
>>
>>17440556
I'll definitely test drive one, they are much cheaper. I'm a welder so money isn't too much of an issue, just frugal as a jew hence the Corolla. Just want something fun, just got a 2nd family car from parents in the form of a Honda accord.

70k/yr 1 year out of college. I live on my own and could easily qualify for a (((loan))) but I'm not going to buy a new car until I can actually afford it. Hopefully that comes sooner rather than later via the stock market but if it has to be the old fashion strictly saving way so be it

if you can't afford the car, don't buy it. Drive a shitty used car, save up, and then buy what you want. Taking out a loan just insures that you pay more than you would've paid, and when you tell them you want to pay in cash but I want to pay X price they are much more open to negotiate.

This is how financially savvy people operate
>>
>>17441926

It's around /o/ pretty frequently think it's just that it's slightly more expensive and slightly less what people want out of a hot hatch. So the Fiesta seems like the more obvious choice. I like the look of the Focus more, though, but I'll probably end up with a Fiesta.

>>
>>17442229
That's probably a good way to put it. Hot hatches are a hard sell to begin with. I didn't even know they were a thing before I started coming to /o/. But I do think the ST's have a bit of a reputation for being good cars now though. You'll impress a couple of people. Dads hate them. They want you to buy the Camaro of their dreams.
>>
Why would you get anything with an ST badge when the GTI and Golf R exists?

Cheaper to maintain long-term, plus VW has spotty quality if they're made in Mexico, my brother's GTI has been borderline lemon status with the amount of shit that's gone wrong over the year and a half that he's had it. Golf R is good, but I would probably still have an RS, STI, or a used Evo first.

A GTI/R feels like a Golf with a bit more power. Cushy, comfy, soft, heavy.
An ST feels more raw, more sporty, more hardcore, more fun. It delivers its power more aggressively, the ride is firmer, the car feels more nimble than a Golf. STs are also a good 5k cheaper than the equivalent GTI here.

I feel like if you want a comfy DD that you have to drive long distances but can still have some fun with, get a GTI. If you want a fun car you can still use every day, get an ST.
>>
>>17446230

If you want a smart, respectful, hard working guy that you're parents will love and be able to support you and your kids all your life, date a white guy. If you want raw, passionate, unadulterated sex go online and set up a "date" with a BBC, their not hard to find at all

Honestly there are enough sports-oriented car in the $25-30k range now that you can have your pick of exactly what you want.

The WRX (2015-2017 at least) goes even further down the performance car path than the Focus ST - everything is firmer and stiffer and the mechanical AWD system can get you 4.8s to 60 stock if you get really good at launching it. It's also roomier.

The downside is that is that it's more expensive, more punishing on harsh roads, drinks more fuel, has an inferior infotainment system (I think Ford Sync 3 has car play and android auto?).

Some people also prefer the hatch (not available for the WRX) and regardless of the performance limits and numbers there is some disagreement over which car is more "fun".
>>
>>17446285
>I think Ford Sync 3 has car play and android auto?
Yeah, it does.

Sync 3 is pretty good, voice control works most of the time but I've noticed it takes a good minute after starting the car to "boot up". Like it'll play your music and show the backup camera but you can't use the voice activation or switch audio sources for about a minute without running the risk of crashing the system. I've had it freeze up completely and had to shut down the car for 5 minutes to get it to work again, just because I tried to choose a different artist from my USB stick before it finished "booting". Bit annoying.
Mind you they may have fixed this with updates or something, I haven't installed any. Car was shipped January 10 2017.
>>
>>17446215
>doesn't own a house

>>
>>17441930

>>aking out a loan just insures that you pay more than you would've paid, and when you tell them you want to pay in cash but I want to pay X price they are much more open to negotiate.

Nope, that's not how it works. Negotiating the price on the car is easier when you have the funding - that is entirely different from paying for it in cash.

For example, going into a dealer with a pre-approval from another bank or credit union plus your down payment ready is worth EXACTLY THE SAME THING to the dealer as a briefcase full of money or a check for the final purchase price + TTL. The stronger position comes from being able to buy the car right away without having to look for financing from a different institution or needing to haggle over the trade in value of another car.

Secondly, stop being a stupid republican for a second and learn how to be more like the ones that are fucking you in the ass.

Making debt and finance work for us are what keep America the world's superpower. Nobody has the financial sophistication that the US has bar the UK, but UK doesn't have the same kind of global weight that the US does.

Here's some simple math:

$30,000 on a car, cash. Depreciates 50% in 5 years. $15,000 gone.

$6,000 down payment on car, $24,000 financed at 0% over 60mo, stick $24,000 in a meager 1% interest savings account. After 5 years, the car is still worth only $15,000 and it's paid off, BUT now you have $25,224.24 in the back from 1% over 5 years. Whoa, free $1,224???? So now you're left with $16,224 in equity + assets vs $15,000 in equity.

And that's if you ONLY stick that $24,000 in savings and never touch it. Shove it into a retirement vehicle and it'll earn you more, or if you're lucky with the stock market you could earn a LOT more.

Don't believe everything you are told because it sounds good - you don't have to believe me either, go do the math yourself if you want.
>>
>>17442850

Yeah, because if you can afford a FoRS you may as well buy a lightly used GLA45 AMG. Sure it's technically not a hatchback, but it's literally just a hatchback with a slight lift and a body kit. It's also way the fuck nicer all the way around and has a forged, hand-built AMG 2.0L turbo and a dual clutch transmission.
>>
>>17446355

Plus, he thinks that cash talks in modern stealerships anymore. This proves he is lying out of his ass. Stealerships get their money off of volume, in-house financing, options, and reselling your used car, and custom builds; In that order. The best deals come from volume; If you walk in and want to buy 5 cars you're going to pay well below MSRP or even the DAP. Next step down the savings ladder is taking dealership financing and paying it off ASAP versus walking in with lower APR financed somewhere else or paying in cash. This is because the dealership gets a huge kickback from signing people up for financing. Next step down are options, it might seem those accessories and options are pure profit for the stealership but if you look carefully there will be options that will significantly uphold the resell value of the vehicle later on (extra sound system components, sun roof, keyless start, etc.). Next we arrive at the trade-in, the dealership doesn't make a bunch of money even if they double the price of your vehicle for resell. This is because they have to spend labor hours fixing some of the big issues that made you want to trade the car in the first place. Finally at the bottom of the barrel in terms of dealership profit are custom builds. These are the "build now" orders placed online or through the dealership that the factory builds "just for you." The factory eats up most of the dealership profit because it costs more to build than dealership ones.

Furthermore, if you go for higher level trim packages or additional factory accessories they'll work the price down even lower. Why? Because with non-luxury brands most people buy base model vehicles with no options. If you walk in and say you want their limited, touring, LT, etc. trim level of vehicle there are often more incentive packages from the factory to move those vehicles. Furthermore those higher level trims depreciate slower than the base model because of all the desired creature comforts.

>The stronger position comes from being able to buy the car right away without having to look for financing from a different institution or needing to haggle over the trade in value of another car.
That is the position I will be in when I say "i'll just wire you the money." except instead of 30k they'll take, say, 26. Using your example, 5 years later I sell the car and get back 15. All in all I paid 11k to have the car for 5 years. That's 2,200 a year which would be the equivalent of 183 a month.

>stick $24,000 in a meager 1% interest savings account. After 5 years, the car is still worth only $15,000 and it's paid off, BUT now you have $25,224.24 in the back from 1% over 5 years. Whoa, free $1,224????
What....these people are talking about taking out a loan to pay for the car, and you're saying you park it in an account and get interest....how the fuck are they paying for the car??? The point of getting a loan is because they can't afford it, they need to spend the loan on the payments they can't just hoard it for 5 years.

>nigganomics in action

You are all retarded. I bought a FiST for zero down zero percent 72 month financing, and I'm wealthy in the american context. A zero percent loan is a negative real rate when you account for inflation. Ford is literally paying you to borrow the money.

Why would I pay cash when I can make 10%+ a year investing in realestate. 20,000 cash for car, after six years you are left with a $10,000 car. 20,000 invested for 6 years at 10% and financing the car at 0% leaves you with about $25,000 in net assets (and i got to drive a fun new car durring that time). You dummies need to learn jewjitsu or you will be forever poor.

Side note, my credit score also jumped 10 points up after taking the car loan, thus making other financing cheaper in the future (investment property mortgages, etc)
>>
>>17446678
the vast majority of people do not qualify for a 0/0 loan. Obviously that is not what I was talking about when I said taking out a loan only insures you pay more than if you just buy.

The moral of my story was always if all you can afford is a 3k shitbox, you should be driving a 3k shitbox and not a 25k new car.

Agreed, if you dont qualify for 0/0 you probably dont have any business buying a new car period, as that money would be better spent improving your financial situation.

I'm point out that shitting on a 72 month zero percent loan is fucking retarded. At any rate below inflation, the long the term the better financially speaking.
