I'd say a shitbox is a car that meets any of the following criteria:

*the car itself is extremely abundant
*the car has physical imperfections that ruin the appearance of the vehicle, such as pulled window gaskets or dented doors
*car has physical damage, like rust or large dents
*car has very basic features, like hand crank windows
*car was obviously neglected by previous owner(s)
*leaks fluid
*is basically a "point A to point B" car
*automatic trans
*front wheel drive

Here, the classic shitbox car.
A Yugo. It slow, unreliable, poorly assembled, has fuck all for options or luxuries. It's a cold in the winter, hot in the summer, noisy, rattly, miserable little shit machine that's only barely better than taking the bus or buying a bicycle.
