China requires majority ownership of any ventures. So if the car assembly is majority chinese, and almost all the parts are from China, then it is accurate to say it is a Chinese car and not an american car. The only thing american is that it has an american reseller (chevy, ford, FCA).

Chinese are known for cutting corners. And that might not even be the fault of the upper management but corruption within certain company members. It's happened before where a supplier to the factory wants to increase profits by supplying a substandard material to the factory. The supplier finds key members in the factory to bribe or blackmail so that the materials can make it into the supply chain past any inspection. So, instead of "level 4" quality steel, the car might be using lesser quality "level 3.5" steel. <-- i know steel types don't use those numbers but I am using these just for the ease of typing

I think they are just directionless design-wise these days. They must figure its easier to aim for the middle, then design anything ground-breaking like the original MK1.

I still remember how I didn't like the MK1 Focus for its design when it got released.
Compared to the crap of today though it seems almost lightweight, sleek and almost nice looking.

I agree. I drove one once too, and remember how airy and open the interior was. Certainly something I and many others took for granted. We are definitely in a new malaise era of design though, but maybe autonomous cars will change that.

Apparently ST and RS models will still be built and imported from Germany. Only the anodyne standard models will be sourced from Chyna. Still not a good look on Ford's part though.
