Tons of people buy them. At least 5 in the lot of my apartment complex. My dad has one too.

I'd buy one if it had a fucking trunk...

...or got decent mileage.

Thought about buying my dads off him but it's auto and he wants 7-9k =\.
>>
but theyre cheap as hell now so everyone buys them

theyve fallen into that teenage-early 20s ricer bracket
>>
>>17392522
Not really. Actually looking at the numbers, that Focus RS you mentioned? It has a better power to weight ratio than the 370z. Plus it's AWD.

If you special order a 370Z, I suppose you can get the price per Hp down below the RS too - but if you're buying off the lot, they tend to only order loaded Z's and the RS will be competitive in price as well.
>>
sounds like a pissed off elephant

>>17392522
I used to have one and it was crazy fun, I was just in over my head trying to mod it like I wanted because it was babbys first car. I eventually sold it but it gave me 0 issue and I actually got compliments on it which has not happened with any vehicle since

>>
>>17392522
People did buy them when they were new, but they haven't been updated in a while. Also the Toyobaru is cheaper and is more appealing to the tuning community.

I'd love to see a Nissan 400Z that uses the engine from the Q60, that's would be a nice step up.

>>

Nobody should buy a 370z really, the engine sucks as much as the transmission and can't hold enough power to make mods worth it.
>>
The 350/370 is a shitstain upon the Z brand. The 240, 280, and both the Z31 and Z32 were great cars. I really hope Nissan pulls their head out of their ass and starts to realize that they have another sports car besides the GTR. The next Z generation should compete with the American muscle/pony cars. Because the base msrp of $29,990 for a 370z is fucking terrible for what you get.

are you a mechanic that has never heard of companies exaggerating the required fuel quality? are you a mechanic that has ever owned this car?
>>
>>17397907
Anything newer than like 2000 is built to run on 87, but just runs better on higher octanes. They detune themselves for it
>>
>>17400066
I'm a mechanic that doesn't wanna try to see if the factory was exaggerating the fuel type by getting the engine to high temperatures and doing an italian tune up until it explodes with a lower grade fuel.

Dont think yourself smarter than the guy that built the fucking engine. You are just gonna fuck shit up.
>>
that car is a piece of shit, not even 300hp, 3200lbs (no back seats?) burns oil and you will see one every time you turn your head. Why would I want any of that. It weighs too much to be a canyon car and is too slow to beat people in a straight line without doing lots mods that if you did to any other car would give better results.
Only chance is the next Z car cutting down weight but knowing itll be based off luxury infiniti im expecting nothing, not even a manual transmission if you ask me.
Ideally a 400zx would be 3000lbs with the I4 turbo or the V6 out of the new infinitis with a 6 speed.
>>
>>17400102
>doing an italian tune up
a mechanic that can't read full conversations apparently. >>17400077 is right, not sure why you're so passionate about discussing a car you clearly know nothing about
>>
>>17400077

You lose HP if your car REQUIRES premium. Yes we know your car can run on regular. The cars computer can change the fuel flow depending on the fuel, but you get peak performance using the correct fuel. If you enjoy a 10% power loss and increased wear on the engine, then keep putting incorrect fuel in your car.
>>
>>17400121

It definitely induces power loss due to the decreased timing, but it doesn't increase wear on the engine per-se

If you're beating on it like a track day, then yes it could increase engine wear. There's a point where the auto-tune capabilities can't mitigate the lower octane fuel.

But just daily driving, there won't be any increased wear

And also, I've always seen in the programming that the ECU pulls timing, not messing with the fuel maps. There may be manufacturers who fuck with the fuel maps to prevent knock though, even though I think it's an inferior idea
>>
>>17400121

I put wrong octane (too low) once in my Porsche. It started smelling like burned metal/aluminium inside the car, probably damaged the engine :X
>>
>>17400157
>It started smelling like burned metal/aluminium inside the car
German engineering
>>
>>17400121
>>17400149

Also fun fact, since E85 is such a higher octane, you can mix some of that in with 87 to get a higher average octane fuel while spending less than you would for premium.

4 gallons of E85 and 11 of 87, no loss of fuel mileage and in general more pep than running on straight 87
>>
>>17400157
What Porsche? I'm
>>17400174
and run 87 or 87/e85 through my boxster, and have run it through 911s a plenty

Though forced induction is not something I'd fuck around with unless I had a custom tune set up.
>>
Assuming I wanted to buy a 350z, is the 2008 model the best one to go for or should I just look at getting a 370z? I have this weird hard on for modern Z cars and I finally have another spot in my garage for a car.

>Also fun fact, since E85 is such a higher octane, you can mix some of that in with 87 to get a higher average octane fuel while spending less than you would for premium.

No, it has a higher octane RATING, not octane itself. Ethanol compresses more easily, while you can run ethanol in engines that are designed to run on higher octane fuel, you are losing power, torque, and MPGs because ethanol contains less energy than gasoline.

>buh buh muh race gas has ethanol in it
They are running retardedly high compression ratios, your car is not a racecar.
>>
>>17397589
Thats backwards.
>>
>>17400198
Okay, you're splitting hairs. People can and frequently refer to octane ratings as just octane.

No one actually gives a shit about the scientific idea of octanes. Or cetanes, for diesel fags

It's all just a part of fuel, and what matters is how we can utilize the various properties of said fuels to achieve what we want.
>>
>>17400276
>People can and frequently refer to octane ratings as just octane.

Because of the fucking gas jews putting ethanol in everything. If what you want to achieve is less power out of your engine, then by all means, go ahead.

Not in this case, no. I used to be one as well, but even a qwiklube guy like yourself could probably see that the job market is slowly getting ass fucked by our overlords.

So a plethora of shitty bosses later, I said fuck it and became a truck driver. Which I recommend beeteedoubleyou.

Also, no one cares if you're a mechanic, just like no one cares if you're an IT tech when it comes to computer shit. They're still going to ignore our advice.

Also also, you might in fact be a mechanic, but you don't know everything. Just a reminder.

Genuinely thought about it. But i live in a shithole, i dont think i would enjoy it for a living, and the permissions to be a truck driver are quite damn hard.

>Also, no one cares if you're a mechanic, just like no one cares if you're an IT tech when it comes to computer shit. They're still going to ignore our advice.

Good then. Go ahead and do use low octane on a high compression car. Nobody's stopping you. All i said is that it was a bad idea.

>Also also, you might in fact be a mechanic, but you don't know everything. Just a reminder.

Of course i dont know everything. But i try to learn new shit. And part of learning new shit is to learn when your previous thoughts were wrong and you need to correct yourself. Which is why i am telling people that using low octane fuel on cars that were not designed for it is a terrible idea. No matter how much money you save.
>>
>>17401901

compression, heat, and high revs. You mix all that with shit octane fuel and your engine will shit the bed. I'm trying to save his car.

Well, I'm not wrong but a neimal v6 mustang with 2.73 gears is just as fast or a tad slower than a 350z.

Now, the performance package V6 Mustang they tested on Motortrend and in Car N Driver showed faster times than the 350z Nismo and was almost on par with the 370z on the track.

V6 camaros 2010-2015 are also slower than a v6 mustang, newer ones are pretty much on par at the drag strip but way WAY better on track.
>>
Also people here tend to forget that the 350z is fucking garbage and wears the tires extremely fast because Nissan can't into engineering.
>>
People don't buy it because:

1. It's not particularly exotic for a 2-seater with absolutely no practicality.

2. Even though it's still competent and fun, it's not the best handling car out there.

3. Despite the compromises, it's also not particularly cheap. The $30k model ($29,990 + destination) is kind of a joke model - no limited slip and weak as fuck brakes. Like OK, you save $4k but now you have a car that sacrifices what it's supposed to be good at.

4. Because the non-base model is over $34k, you're now within range of many key competitors:
>Mustang GT: Way fucking faster, V8, better interior, more modern overall, roomy, +2 seats in the back + a hatch where you can actually fit shit
>Camaro V6 1LE - fast as fuck with all kinds of actual performance goodies, will BTFO of the Mustang GT and the 370Z
>Base STI - AWD track toy with trick differential - fun as fuck all day long and you still have lots of room, 4 doors, a big trunk, all-weather capability.
>BMW 230i - not quite as fast, but an overall better car in every way
>Focus RS is not far off, Focus ST and WRX are way cheaper will getting you 80%+ of the experience while being much more practical

So the 370z is a terrible daily, isn't cheap enough to be a random toy (like the BRZ/GT86), isn't fast enough, isn't fun enough... etc. It doesn't excel at anything while sacrificing and compromising everywhere and it's not even a good overall car.

The only demographic it appeals to are young, impressionable guys who want a JDM 2 seat sports car that has a high-ish amount of horsepower that they can drive to school and look cool. Unfortunately, that consumer group also tends to not have money and can/will buy used 350Z/370Z's.

It's just like.... man... who would you possibly recommend a new 370Z to?
>>
>>17402214
>wears the tires extremely fast
Get better tires?

Almost everything comes with at least a hair of negative camber. My shitbox has a factory spec of 1° of negative camber all around, and on the forums even more is recommended, because of how the suspension geometry is, they still tend to wear the outside shoulder even with the camber in the negative.

350Zs have a 53:47 front to rear weight bias. That's pretty good, better than the older Zs since everyone likes to compare those

Why did you just link an article that has nothing to do with what you just said? Did you Google "weight bias 350z", see that the website has a 350 on the banner and is talking about weight distribution, and decide to link it without actually reading?

Are you also saying that the GT86, widely considered to be one of the best handling cars in the world, has shit weight distribution?
>>
>>17403059
That's only for tracks you idiot. Each different car will have a different application with a different req for weight distro.

Sports cars like 50/50. Track racecars enjoy 40/60. Street and drift cars enjoy 55/45 or 60/40 and dragsters get pretty much 1/99 if possible.
>>
>>17403072

Hahaha you fucking spastic, you're digging a deep hole

Sports cars aim for around 50/50 weight distribution, because they're meant for driving in public and being balanced.

Race cars aim for slightly more bias to the rear (This is what your article is talking about, you'd know that if you actually read it)

handles well* by the way ya fuckin goof

Boxsters have to be tracked because it usually comes with the frequent oil changes needed to flush out IMS bearing shavings

Old lady drivers do an oil change every 3k and wonder why it's dead
>>
>>17404695
The IMS is permanently solvable with an upgraded part, but like
>>17404991

I feel its the same way with the Northstar v8

>>17402029
It's because they are the japanese mustang. They sold a LOT of them, and they are now getting to the age where people want new cars. And like the 300zx TT, kids buy them beat to shit, then realize that parts and mechanics aren't free, so they ditch them looking for a unicorn car that never breaks down or needs repairs.
>>
>>17402113
Not true. You push a 300zx TT to 500whp no problem on a stock block. 2jz same way. Titan same way. Any diesel. The s2000. The 335i. Mustangs. Camaros. Porsche 911. GT-R. And hundreds of other cars/trucks can make WAY more than 130% more than stock HP and not be iffy.
>>
>>17402304
>So the 370z is a terrible daily, isn't cheap enough to be a random toy (like the BRZ/GT86),
AHAHAHAH. It cost literally $3k more. The MSRP is $29k. You can get them at the dealer for cheap. An frs is $26k. That is so close it's not even a deal breaker. You are talking out of your ass. I DD mine and it was fine. Mustangs are okay, but they still fall apart in 5 years time. 370z was built pretty well. The BRAND NEW camaro is faster, but it's also the new generation. We're talking USED cars dick face. STI is retarded expensive used. BMW230 a shit and expensive. Focus RS is retarded expensive. Why are you comparing these brand new models when OP is asking about USED ones?

Also the 370z is MILES ahead of the BRZ in almost every way.
>>
>>17404695
That looks clean af, nice
>>
>>17406379
>No problem
the max whp on a stock block engine for a 350z is around 450whp and 500whp for a 370z, way to low for the price of the car, a Mustang v6 can handle 600whp before blowing up.
