How popular is Michel Vaillant?
Who?

Somewhat popular in Europe.
Americans have no clue.
My Swiss father taught me how to read in French by reading me Michel valliante when i was little, but otherwise i don't know anyone else who knows about the comics. The idea is interesting, imagine historical fiction, with motorsport.

Very, especially in French speaking nations.

In French-Speaking nations it's big. In Europe it's known, but not really all that popular.
In 'Murrica, it's virtually unknown and has only had a few different stories translated.
>mfw I thought you were talking about Michael Valiante, Canadian race car driver
When I was a kid, my parents bought me several VHS tapes of a cartoon called Heroes on Hot Wheels, which was the American adaptation of the Michel Vaillant cartoon. It was fucking bad-ass and I named our family pets after the drivers of Team Vaillant. It wasn't until a few years ago that I learned about the origin of the cartoon and the story of the series. I watched a Google translated version of the live action Vaillant movie and absolutely loved it.

My dad owns a few dozen volumes though a few were stolen while he was in military service. :^(

Also iirc the show was also broadcast on tv here, but not on major channels. The last time I saw an episode of HoHW on tv was probably 1998 or so on "USA" which no longer exists. It was animated by TMS I believe so it has a gorgeous late 80s anime style.

Blame the FIA for having a character limit for WEC teams, because if Rebellion Racing had their way they would've run as "Vaillant Rebellion Racing" at Le Mans this year.
