Looking at buying a new Subaru Crosstrek... Dealership has a lifetime powertrain warranty. Sounds good, right... Except for the underlined exclusion! Warranty doesn't cover repairs to address sludging, oil consumption, compression problems, or detonation. Tell me... what other types of common failures of your engine are there.
It just means they won't rebuild a worn but otherwise perfectly functional engine for free. As in its there for things like thrown rods, head gaskets (subaru lol), block cracking, serious crank wear or failure, etc. Any sort of catastrophic mechanical failure not due to abuse or neglect.

This is mainly to address things that come from (what they feel) is blatant abuse and mistreatment of the vehicle.
Like, (they feel) sludging is common among vehicles that do not have their oil changed. (They feel) Oil consumption and compression problems is mainly from hammering on your car while it's cold, Detonation from aftermarket tunes and all that jazz.
Usually, a lifetime warranty will cover something that is really out of the blue. Like if a part inside in valvetrain for example has a catastrophic failure. I'm pretty sure most companies have warranties similar to this. Otherwise, people would get away with raping their program for all it is worth.

>drain oil
>put 1qt in
>run it
>spin bearing at low RPM
>???
>put remaining oil in
>drive it around for a day or two
>drive to dealership
>"weird sound coming from engine"
>engine replacement
This would be incredibly dishonest though.

>implying Subaru haven't been making crossovers since before they were named crossovers
They're the only ones who have been doing it right the whole time.

That's a hatchback, not a crossover. It still has a shitty flat engine.

>They're the only ones who have been doing it right the whole time
Hitler did genocide right. That doesn't make it a good thing

>its there for head gaskets
Engine compression and water leaks are excluded from coverage.
