So it's a blast all day going from a truck with no AC (or it might barely work if I'm lucky) to rain to hot and humid to AC in a store to a 35F cooler. i've asked this question yesterday. why do all newer american trucks look exactly the same? some faggots say all modern cars look the same too, which isnt true, you cant mistake a vw pasat for a toyota camry or a vw golf for a miata unless you're blind. even euro truck only have a similar shape with all the rest being distinctly different. american trucks all have same grill, same headlights, same fucking everything, they just look identical whether you look at kenworth, international or mack. i have no trouble telling a mercedes actros from a scania, but all american trucks are literally twins.

Donorcycler here. How badly does it piss you guys off when we draft in your wake? I experienced drafting this last weekend on I90... I can't describe how amazing it was. My little 250 was barely making 55 in the horrid wind. Big tanker pulls by me and I feel myself getting sucked up behind him. Carried me along at 75 for almost 10 miles. Serious question here, is it safe to ignore the glowplug light if the engine is at operating temp and had only been shut down 5-10 minutes prior? My understanding is that the glowplugs are only used to get the cylinders up to temp before cranking, or is there some computer reasoning behind letting them warm up on every start?

When we still had that Key West Tropicana route (the one they wanted me to take), they would put the driver up in a decent hotel in Marathon for two nights. Supposedly that shit was actually kinda fun but I like my own bed, which is why I don't do OTR.

Our regional guys run around the whole Southeast in daycabs and I think they're out maybe 3 nights a week and Pepsi pays for their motel rooms too. But honestly if you are just taking your 10hrs off-duty before getting back on the 14, even in a daycab it almost isn't worth getting a motel. By the time you park and check in and shower and stuff, you're gonna end up getting like 4hrs of sleep.

anyone else here get mega anxiety about driving in tight places? I'm a pretty new driver, only been driving with a CDL for about two weeks now. I can load the truck and tie it down just fine, I can upshift and downshift just fine, have absolutely no problem cruising down the highway even in the mountains, but if I see two right turns at the end of my route I'll worry about it the whole time. yesterday I had to go pick up some shit in downtown Boulder CO at rush hour, my company had one of two lanes closed down and could only fit one truck at a time to load. I was the last one sent so the foreman just told me to lay low for a while. I couldn't find anywhere to park and just pulling into a parking lot I wasn't familiar with absolutely scares the shit out of me because I'm afraid I won't be able to get back out.

does this go away with experience or am I just a high-strung wreck of a person?

Where I live (western Canada) all of the truckers are expected to be able to load the machine themselves, 99% of the time the trucker kicks the operator out of the seat to load it.

The exact same thing that happens with paper logs, you violate HOS. The rules aren't changing, only now with ELDs all the cheating that goes on with paper logs will be recorded and nothing new will come of it. ELDs driving time can be edited if you have your own authority or are really liked by management(or they want to make you work more and suddenly you have more hours on your clock).
The real effect will be on stupid old ass steering wheel holders with no common knowledge of how easy electronics are to fiddle with, and won't be smart enough to hack into their ELDs and basically make it as flexible as paper logs are today. No DOT officer will ever be able to tell the device has been tampered with, so the smart will continue to enjoy breaking the rules with no consequences.

On the qualcomms we have the system will give a siren sound and then will say your name and that you have violated the hours of service rule. It will flag that drive time in the log as a violation. They want you to know how to operate it (which honestly seems easy enough considering the traffic I drive my truck thru) but also basically be a mechanic. You know that half the time you go to pick up a piece of equipment, the minorities on the job site beat the fuck out of it for the past 6 months and the thing has no oil and overheads and the battery is dead. Asphalt is all I have ever done.
Started out with a tipper doing hotrocks, sprayseal with chip spreader truck and float tag trailer, asphalt sprayer for sprayseal then now just hauling liquid asphalt to plants and sprayers.
Good money and home everyweekend some days during the week home too.
