That engine can't meet emissions right? i guess its like asking why Mazda never put the 26B in anything production. that isn't enough power to make a Z28 either. the Z28 name is reserved for naturally aspirated applications but that would be making less power than the ZL1 and the Z28 is supposed to be a step above the ZL1.

If they made a Z28 they would have to use a shit-ton of carbon fiber or something in order to make it weigh a lot less or have a Naturally Aspirated engine making 700HP at least. something would need to be done to make it worth buying over the ZL1. it can't just be a side-grade. we likely just won't get a Z28 this generation. hell, me may never see that name used again unless this DOHC V8 of theirs is making north of 700 HP.

Look at Dodge with the 370hp 5.7 Hemi and 485hp 6.4 SRT Hemi. They somehow sell RTs for $35k and Scat Packs for just over $40k.

5th gen Z28 had 505hp NA LS7

5th gen ZL1 has 630hp SC LS9

I do agree a DOHC high-reving "LT5" is a possibility, probably has a better chance of meeting emissions.

They basically gave what everyone thought was the Z28 a ZL1 with Z28 treatment.

the last gen Z28 beat the ZL1 despite the power gap because it was given track treatment. how can you possibly top this with less power? if they tried to we'd be paying super car prices for a Camaro...

The 5th gen ZL1 is marginally faster 0-60 and 1/4 mile than the Z06, however the Z06 maybe faster on tighter tracks because it weighs considerably less than the ZL1.

An "LT6" wouldnt weigh any more than the LT1. They don't need to top the ZL1, they need to stomp the Ford GT350 while costing less.

If they can make a 7.0L 505hp meet EPA regs, I'm pretty sure they can make a 6.2L 535hp with direct injection pass too.
