Spoilers on a hatch always have a purposes. Just go look at your average simulation/wind tunnel experiement, and you'll find that a proper spoiler reduces the low pressure area behind the vehicle, which improves it's CoD.

Actual wings (that actively create downforce) are even more important in FWD racecars. You generally set it up with really stiff springs at the rear, so as to reduce the tendency to understeer in corner entry - you're effectively promoting oversteer. However, stiff springs alone can't do that job, and you're likely too lose traction. Thus, you re-apply traction at the rear with a rear downforce bias.

You use stiff springs in a sporty hatch, which means you'll get less understeer during corner entry, which means better turnin. At some point, stiff springs aren't enough, and you'll add downforce too.

Also, most wings on hatchbacks aren't really wings, they're spoilers. Most hatches create a low pressure area behind them, which is bad for drag. Adding a spoiler removes this and improves the CoD. Wierdly enough, a majority of aerodynamic gains can be had at the rear, not the front.

The main problem I have with stancing is the fact that cars are meant and deserve to be driven. I'm fine with trying to make your car as aesthetically pleasing to yourself and others with similar tastes.
