Reviving a dead general edition

Previous Thread: ??????

>What is a "Hot Hatch"?
A Hot Hatch is a manufacturer produced, performance oriented variant of a standard hatchback, designed for improved handling, increased top speed, acceleration and generally enhance the driving experience.

>Are all Hot Hatches FWD?
No. Whilst most Hot Hatches are FWD, some are AWD or even RWD.

>Isn't FWD shit?
No. Just because you can't get the arse out by stamping on the accelerator doesn't mean you can't have fun.

>Aren't Hot Hatches just for Europoors?
No; Hot Hatches have been a thing for the US since the 90s, took a dip in the mid 00s and are gaining momentum again.

Question for the Ford guys: do I have to take it to the dealer if I want to put on mountune shit? Because the dealer I bought it from seems to have no idea that mountune is a thing and it's gonna be a pain to educate them.

Thinking about getting a 2015-16 Focus ST with some factory warranty left.

I have 35% tint on an F150 and my first inspection really was a pain, requiring multiple trips to multiple shops.

First time I went the guy just looked at me and said don't bother because "I'll have to fail you for tint." Guy didn't even check it with a meter, but i didnt argue, just left. Second time, different shop, I pre warned the guy that my tint is legal. He took the car into the bay and began inspecting it. Came back 10min later and said "I can't pass you so I'm just gonna pull back out for you." I was pissed but didn't bitch.

I went back to the tent shop. Watched the guy meter it in front of me comfortably above the legal limit. The tint shop had to give me a recommendation of where to get my inspection. The Chrysler dealership less than 8 miles from my house.

I was told my fiesta St needs a brand new engine, feelsbadman

Obviously being an idiot i won't be doing it myself, but is it really just as simple as buying another engine? Will there be loads of extras I'd need it buy as well? Annoyingly apparently there aren't any alternatives
>>
>>17309591

>>17309424
Like I said, I don't want to spend the time or effort, regardless of how easy and possible it is with off the shelf parts.
>>
>>17309639
I hope this makes sense

Basically it's been burning alot of oil, I have to top up every few weeks. You can smell it and lots of smoke occasionally comes out the exhaust

I've taken it to a few people and they said it's either the piston rings, or the valve seals(I think they're called?)

After taking it apart and doing some tests, sadly he said it's both. Even the valves need replacing. All of this so far is coming up to like 1k+

Weirdly, he said he can't actually just replace the piston rings on the 2005 model, they're connected to something (maybe the pistons I guess i dunno) but apparently on this engine you can't just take them off and replace them

I actually phoned Ford to check if he wasn't talking shit and they said yeh its worth just buying a second hand engine
>>
>>17309785
Oh, it's a 2005 Fiesta ST. I thought you were referring to a 2015. It may be cheaper long-term to just buy a new-er car, but if you're dead set on keeping your current car it sounds like an engine replacement is the way to go.

If I were to have only one car, I'd have probably gone for a four door FoST, but since it's my third and fun car, felt like a good choice.

>>17312578
Like with any car really though its going to come down to how you drive and I guess where you drive.

If you putting it into sport and reving the engine like crazy while its cold then its going to break a lot quicker.
Because the suspension is rather stiff if you drive around on bumpy surfaces then I would expect it to break a fair bit quicker.

The only issue I have seen which seems to be more on the car than the user is the boot loom getting cough in the boot resulting in it getting
ripped.

My mother has a standard 500 which she has owned for a good few years now (this its an 09) and she has yet to have any major faults with the car which was a reason for me buying mine.

Here's my '12 GTI. I'm running Unitronic stage 2 software and supporting bolt ons, upgraded sway bars, upgraded control arms / eng & trans mounts, and Toyo Proxes R888r tires for the track. The damn thing is a grip monster on the track, allowing me to take on shit like corvettes and Porsches with relative ease. Of course depending on the drivers.
20 psi boost, ~290 HP, ~ 330 lbs tq. Very fun, sucks ass from a dig with my street tires on, wheel spin for days.

I recently got fisted but im not exactly sure if its an ST2 or what...

2014, 3 door, phanther black, grey recaros, sony with small screen, tint, illuminated scuff plates, darker wheels, red calipers.
Rain sensor, heated windscreen, projector style headlights, keyless go.

I was under the impresson from reviews and opinions that the speakers would be shit but i find them decent, highway road noise seem to drown them out though.

this is a pretty bad list and you should feel bad for writing it
>>
>>17336834
Nice econobox. Too poor for a focus?
>>
>>17337471
I'd put the FiST in 3rd or 4th, but that's me.
>>
>>17337605
you can't put a fist over a fost
>>
>>17337627
but the FiST is significantly better.
>>
>>17337701
literally how
>>
>>17337701
I wouldn't go as far as to say it's significantly better.
Though it is slightly better in most aspects.
>>
>>17337720
fost= 4 clyinder 2l 250 hp
rist= 4 clyinder 1.6l 197hp

fost=much more interior/storage room

literally how is the fist better
>>
>>17337732
It handles better and weighs less.
>>
>>17337732
weight, distribution of said weight, vehicle dimensions lend itself to more maneuverability, cheaper running costs, holds value better
>>
>>17337732
>mentions the added horsepower but doesn't mention the added weight for stupid features you don't really need.

Lul ur dumb
>>
>>17337732
an SUV would have more hp and more room, why didn't you get one of those if that's all you care about

I had no idea there were people who unironically would chose a fist over a fost
>>
>>17337779
having actually driven them both, the fiesta driving position is much better in my opinion. The focus center console is really tall and hits your right knee as driving. That and the shifter is higher than a usual car. The focus interior pieces are 'bigger' making the car feel smaller than even the fiesta when you're driving it.
>>
>>17337779
>useless gauges above the infotainment
>useless dual zone climate
>additional useless buttons on the steering wheel
>more useless buttons down by the lever probably for meme driving modes or traction control which the FiST just has on the center console.

Am I missing something here? I don't get what you're so enamored with over the Fiesta ST. Also, that's an older Euro FiST because all FiSTS in the US come standard with a full SYNC infotainment system not that base model bullshit eurocucks got served unless they wanted to upgrade.
>>
>>17337845
>I don't get what you're so enamored with over the Fiesta ST.
tbqhwyfam it's cause I just bought a fost and didn't even test drive the fist cause for some reason I thought that was like the 'lil bro' version.
>>
>>17337845
Those gauges are for oil temp, boost and oil pressure. Nice information to have.
The rest of the things you call useless have a function too.
>>
>>17337866
>Those gauges are for oil temp, boost and oil pressure. Nice information to have.

Near every review for the Focus ST mentions how those gauges (the boost one in particular) are useless, they're small and near unreadable. Anyone who actually genuinely needs that information will already have it on their Accessport which you're already gonna have if you're racing or Autox'ing.

>The rest of the things you call useless have a function too.

How is dual zone climate useful? It's a meme.

If it's hot outside everyone in the car is gonna want it cold and vice-versa. You can't tell the diff between 73 degrees and 76 and even if ur passenger wants no AC they're still gonna get it from ur vents that are literally inches away.

the "useless" buttons on the steering wheel are up/down volume answer/hang up phone a button you press to give voice commands to virtually anything you can touch on the screen, cruise control,
>>
>>17337904
I was talking about the additional unnecessary buttons on the left side of the wheel presumably for cruise control.

I can literally do everything you said in this post in my Fiesta ST without the need for more buttons on my steering wheel because I don't need a meme D-pad for infotainment because mine doesn't have some over the top crazy infotainment system that needs to be navigated to do anything.

Left side is for music and right side is cruise control.
>>
>>17337913
The buttons on the left control the screen in between the tach and speedo.
I just have it set to the digital spedo, but there's plenty of info in there like miles to bingo and how many mpgs you're getting.

I really don't know why you're so upset about all this. Both cars aren't that special.
>>
>>17337934
>I really don't know why you're so upset about all this. Both cars aren't that special.
>Both cars aren't that special.

I know so why are people buying the Focus with heated steering wheel and other meme features like dual zone climate trying to pretend it's a Lexus, Merc, or something. It's an econobox with a turbo on it.
>>
>>17337934
The middle scree in between the gauges is actually fun to mess with while ur driving and I miss it from my 2012 Focus Platinum.
>>
>>17337959
I really, really don't think anyone getting a fist or fost secretly wanted a lexus. I don't see how a manual turbo hot hatch can possible lead you to believe that

so will the new Typre R be no 1 soon?
whats your take on this car ?
>>
>>17339379
I'd slot it in third for now until more comes out about it .
My take is that while it seems to perform well, it's riced to fuck when it doesn't need to be, will probably carry a 40k price tag and many would hesitate to call it an actual hatchback.
>>
>>17337471
why is the Golf R first ? literally every online car rating puts it in 3-5 place after the FoRS and FiST
>>
>>17339503
Not that anon, but it's a better DD than those two.
That's the only reason I could think of to put it first
>>

how is that a hot hatch?

It only had 120 hp but it looks cool.
>>
>>17339503
I thought having focuses 1-3 would just cause people to stop reading there. Plus the R is a 40k car and the other 2 cost half that
>>
>>17339503
I don't agree. FiST owner and I would still put the R and FoRS above both STs.

1. FoRS
2. Golf R
3. Fiesta ST
4. Focus ST
5. GTI
6. Cooper S
7. 500 Abarth
8. Veloster
>>
>>17340251
Why? I mean if it was the same price sure, but it isn't.

It's a GTI with a tune and Haldex, which really only helps you launch and otherwise might as well be FWD.

No S1 in this thread?
>>
>>17340499
Weren't these like some ultra-limited edition bullshit?
>>
>>17340644
I guess so. But I was talking about the regular base S1.
>>
>>17337732
The focus has like, 20 cubic feet more room total, most of which is in the rear and backseats. The front seats have almost the same amount of room.

The Fiesta is also 500lbs lighter, so the 50hp difference is somewhat negligible. Oh and the Fiesta handles like an FF Miata, the Focus torque steers all over the place and attracts vapenation.

Aren't Renaults available in US?
>>
>>17340949
Nope. Only hot hatches they get in [the current year] are the hot Golfs, Fords and the Abarth 500.
>>

I dunno man, i see plenty of faggot FiST drivers about as well.
>>

And that hideous Hyundai thing that they are seriously approving.
>>
>>17340977
Not disagreeing with you, but there's so many more Focus ST owners out there. I'm in a fairly large local ST group and there are probably 10:1 Focus:Fiesta, I can't tell you the number of bros I've seen buy a Focus ST, take it to "stage 3" and then try to sell it for "payoff" before the vehicle ever hits 10,000

Not saying there aren't plenty of faggots in Fiesta's too, there are just far less Fiesta owners in general.
>>
>>17340982
also the v60 polestar if that counts
>>
>>17307777
Cause the only fist I could find where 17k and I got my Abarth for 10k.
>>
>>17304750
It's a 2012 with 90k kms and I had no problem except for a broken door handle.
Got the part from the UK for 8$ and fixed it in 2hours.
>>
>>17341001
No, that won't count.
