most likely, until diesel cars have been established to the point where most major car companies offer them in several body styles, parts are plentiful, and you can buy used ones for 2 grand on craigslist, people will still use gas

the carbon footprint of all those batteries, charging stations, and the electricity needed to charge said batteries has a far grater carbon footprint than most petroleum cars, if you want to save the planet, develop a cheap and effective hydrogen fuel cell, if you can't do that, get something that runs on ethanol or biodiesel
